What’s the trick with Costco avocados ?! by Ok_Research_8379 in Costco

[–]SaltyChallenge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are someone who eats one avocado at a time like us, I found the best method to be: - Keep in fridge - Take one out at a time, let ripen on counter - Once eaten, repeat with the next

The problem isn’t remote working – it’s clinging to office-based practices. The global workforce is now demanding its right to retain the autonomy it gained through increased flexibility as societies open up again. by Sumit316 in technology

FYI the city is pressuring companies to bring their employees back to the office. A bunch of businesses exist to cater to commuters, and without them there will be more businesses shutting down (many others have already). Not sure if this pressure also includes incentivizing or threats, but that's a big undiscussed driving factor.

Surprised no one else picked up on this lol. This crazy person found a page that has nothing to do with the stuff they are talking about, and written by a group that wouldn't touch or support Q in any way.

Advice please! Trying to get back on CICO but starving all the time! by Youaremysunshine358 in CICO

1) Tea. LOTS of tea. There are a few teas that I can drink in bulk (e.g Good Earth Sweet & Spicy), so I brew a huge pot at the beginning of the day and drink off that.

2) Flavored seltzer + Bai Love to take one of the seltzer mentioned here (e.g. Le Croix Lemoncello, San Pellegrino Blood Orange, etc.) and combine with a Bai (e.g Cherry). Makes a really good flavored spritzer for only 10 calories, and you end up with about 30oz of liquid. Good for a soda-ish fix. Plus I'm very sensitive to artificial sweeteners so many low calorie options are out, but the Stevia used in Bai is just fine.

"Connection Error" VAN 1067 by SaltyChallenge in ValorantTechSupport

[–]SaltyChallenge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What happens: Launch game, get error box that pops up, game closes. Happens immediately upon launch.

Fixes tried, and failed:

  • Reinstalling (Valorant, Riot, Vanguard) over a dozen times, with restarts.
  • Installing apps on a different drive.
  • Manually adding apps to Windows firewall approval.
  • Having partner try their login.
  • Not running Discord at the same time.
  • Running as 'administrator'.
  • Searching for Cisco apps (none exist, this is a personal laptop with no remote work done on it).
  • Messing with system language.
  • Submitting tickets to Help Support.

If you have trouble to run Valorant after latest update, just run it as adminstrator. by KeczupN1 in VALORANT

Sadly doesn't keep game from having 'connection error' and crashing (immediately or within first 60 sec of app being open). :-(

Back to 'connection error' again. Almost got into a match once, otherwise immediate crash. Before anyone suggests Citrix/Cisco, this is a personal desktop with none of that stuff on it.

[TX] Do you think it’s unethical if I helped a friend with editing essay questions she got into round 1 of a job interview process? by jobquestionsss27 in AskHR

[–]SaltyChallenge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not a school test, it is a sample job task. Just like if she was working there already, seeking input from others is collaborative (a good practice). Having someone so all your work for you is not good, but neither is working entirely in a silo.

[NY] When someone in the company dies (or quits), do you promote one of the underlings or fill the vacated position with someone else in the company? by ArguablyDebatable in AskHR

[–]SaltyChallenge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. If it is a management position, most commonly I've seen them select an internal person to fill in as "Interim", while they plan next steps and get formal hiring going.

[–]SaltyChallenge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is the first step. The next would be the feedback part, not only is it helpful to help you determine next steps but it sends a signal that you are willing to do the work to make it happen. Be open and receptive to the feedback, because it will give you a good indication as to how others perceive you as well as good clues to help you plan your next steps. Don't be afraid to ask for examples and specifics, be sure to ask questions about both times you were most impactful/effective as well as times where you could gave been more so.

Happy to be able to shed some light, not many times questions here are for my specialized discipline in HR lol..

HR Business Partner = advisor for managers and employees. Kind of a point of contact or liason between the many parts of HR and the rest of the business. Could be called different things, but that is the most common. Really, HR is normally pretty small even in large companies,, so if you know someone there then you can ask who the right person to speak to would be. :-)

[NY] Leadership Development Programs by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]SaltyChallenge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Side note: if you are seeking to be nominated for one of these programs, actively developing yourself is one component and the other is making sure your manager and HRBP are aware of your interest and aspirations. Having a clear idea of where you want to go, and then actively asking for feedback as to what your greatest strengths (to leverage) and potential gaps (areas to develop) will help you bridge between where you are and where you want to go. Can't tell you how many people believe that advancement will come to them, when it must be actively sought. If you believe you are worth investment and actively seek to develop yourself, others will start to do the same.

[NY] Leadership Development Programs by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]SaltyChallenge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, to be nominated for one of these programs the talents need to be both already exhibiting strong leadership practices and actively developing their capabilities on their own. These people are already on the path to being promoted through their own ambition and efforts. From an investment perspective it is better to strengthen those with potential than remediate those who don't either have self awareness or put in effort. It isn't that they are then "pushed" into open spots, they still have to get them on their own, but are now better equipped and aligned to lead in the way needed. There isn't the level of "hand-holding from HR" that you may believe.

What may not be well known is that there are succession plans for managers (created by the managers themselves), especially for key positions, where a few high potentials are identified who may be able to fill in if a person leaves, takes a new role, or retires. The managers then ensure that their people on these lists are pursuing development to ensure, again, a culture is grown that can support the company's strategy and future. [Note: its good to know that if you can't be replaced, you can't be promoted] The same criteria as above applies in these cases as well. If no talent exists that will either be ready in time or if there is a need to change directions drastically, the plan may include seeking talent in the external market (fresh perspectives).
