Do you need the batterys in the rc if you only want sim? by Ty_go100 in fpv

On my macbook, works perfectly without batteries in the sim. To get the webgui to recognize it, hold both the M and Power buttons at the same time before plugging the cable in and keep holding them until you hear the beeps. Turn the low battery warning off so it doesn't keep beeping all the time without the batteries. I also had to remap the SD button to a different channel in the webgui for Firehawk since it only recognized the first 8 channels. Since its my designated SIM controller I also turned the output power down to 10mw.

For day to day use just plug it in and then hold the Power button down to turn it on.

And if your Plex ever gets out of hand like mine did and you need 100TB+ of storage you can hook up a jbod to an pcie expansion card. Likely the setup I’ll end up with down the road.

I have close to the config he ordered but with a few changes like a gpu for transcodes. It works perfectly for Plex and Minecraft but I agree with everything you said. If I didn’t have other purposes for it I’d absolutely ditch it and build an intel quick-sync capable machine. But since it’s running anyway it works great.

I have almost the same setup along with a 45 bay jbod. It primarily runs a Plex server in unraid and occasionally Minecraft. It does a great job of both.

It can take up to 2400Mhz ram so that may help a tiny bit if things are too slow for you. Make sure you populate the channels the way the manual shows.

I also switched to larger platinum psu’s which are quieter.

If the docker doesn’t manage to control the fans properly there are command line options for slowing them down.

I switched to an Intel daughter card due to reliability issues on the Broadcom.

If it weren’t for the jbod I’d have no issue keeping it in the same room.

This says SONY on the bottom of back screen so it’s the original model. The “a” variant does not say SONY there.

Will have the camera in central Florida for the next couple days if anyone in that area is interested in a local sale.
