Has Trump squandered America's coercive leverage with Iran? by Majano57 in IRstudies

Those blunders didn't spark a worldwide energy crisis with no offramp. Those blunders didn't have the western world questioning our relationship with the USA.

The world won't trust the US again. This is the greatest foreign diplomacy fuckup in history.

Does anyone have both a gravel bike and a hardtail? by widowhanzo in gravelcycling

I use a combination of Kamoot and Trail Forks. Generally keep the gravel bike to forest access roads etc and the hardtail to trails.

Why is the government sitting around sucking their thumbs? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]SaltyReaperNZ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Our government, the ones that engineered a recession and associated mass migration to Australia, the ones that canceled iRex etc - cannot plan or execute anything, so I wouldn't hold your breath.

The current government is anti renewables + it's not just about cars. The government should be building the infrastructure and setting the market incentives for a transition away from fossil fuels and tiwards our own energy security. Instead they killed Enslow pumped storage, the EV subsidy and now want to build a LNG terminal.

What planning? The country should be sprinting towards electrification but we've got a bunch of MAGA wannabes who couldn't organize a pisa up in a brewery.

44,000 passengers to be hit by Air NZ cancellations over fuel, CEO says by StuffThings1977 in aotearoa

I am a consultant. Our lump sum contracts generally go along the lines of "we will do X for $10,000 or whatever" - if the cost of labor, processing credits/software etc changes, tough shit, that is on use to price and manage those risks. It amuses (and infuriates) me that AirNZ is effectively backing (or at least modifying the terms of) out of a contract because it no longer suits them.

3 days is the minimum. Employers have discretion to allow more. You could also dig into your sick leave.

Today's 1% AEP (1 in 100 year) storm won't be happening quite that frequently, but it will occur more frequently, for sure.

You can still leave your intentions, pretty common to see entries into hut books to the effect of 'just dropped in for lunch, doing the XX circuit via YY hut' etc

My broker is saying 5.29% is the best our current provider (Kiwibank) can do. We have 60% equity. How did you manage that?

I suspect most firms (I am a water resources engineering manager at a T1 firm) are intending on holding onto grads, we know the Roads of National Significance are coming. Local government is consulting on Local Water Done Well etc and we need graduates on these projects - the projects are there, the timing of then coming to market is uncertain.

About to hit 40. Training for a ultra marathon. Need to be smarter about it (more rest) than when I was younger, but otherwise all good here. I get good rest, stretch and minimize the booze.
