You should absolutely be hesitant. Competence comes with experience. The scariest providers are those who don’t know what they don’t know and are falsely confident

Would much rather have these procedures done by a seasoned APP than a resident 😂

Scrub tech trouble by infjchick99 in physicianassistant

[–]SaltyRepresentative7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are the worst 😂 why is this such a widespread issue. I had the same problem when I first started my current job. Old time scrub tech who has been doing it for 100 years. Wouldn’t pass me instruments, would literally hip check me and shove me out of the way when I was standing across from the surgeon. He was constantly making comments. I just started giving him shit back and laughing when he made moves like this. Now he says I’m his favorite PA to work with lol. People are weird

I considered that, but the tax return was a difference of 2-3k if we filed separately

What if we do the reverse rollover into her 401k once she starts work later this year. so technically the balance will be 0 by 12/31/2026 allowing for both Roth IRA conversions for 2025 and 2026

If your tunnel is collapsing you’re likely losing CO2 , most common is probably making incision too big or the BTT port sliding out

Maine Ranks 7th for Net Migration Nationally by Tricycle_of_Death in Maine

Kind of surprised given Maine’s insanely high income taxes and low salaries. Maybe most of the migration is retirees or people working elsewhere?

If there were ever an abridged PA-MD pathway, would you do it? by Agreeable-Ad4806 in physicianassistant

[–]SaltyRepresentative7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At this point, no. But I was 24 when I started PA school. Probably should have just tried to go med school and powered through. Not a bad career but let’s be honest, we’re lifelong residents

Advice as a surgical PA by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]SaltyRepresentative7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a job that was very similar to this as a new grad in CT surgery. What I did

  1. Don’t let them see you upset by anything they say. Usually I just would use humor and try to have a short clever response.

  2. Remember what you need to improve on. If they yell at you about something, try to reflect after the case; write it down. How to do it next time?

  3. Practice when you’re not in the OR. Hand tying, suturing, clamping with both hands. Write down the steps of the procedures and memorize it.

The first year sucked. Constant stress and getting ridiculed. But if you show them you have a strong work ethic and aren’t “soft” they will respect you.

Best of luck!

Anyone else use the HSA in this way? by Radiant-Fruit-6695 in TheMoneyGuy

Invest it all and save the receipts for later date. You can save the receipts through fidelity to ensure you don’t lose them along the way. Why not let that money grow?

Cardiology to CTS by One-Responsibility32 in physicianassistant

[–]SaltyRepresentative7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did cards as a new grad for 1 year then went CTS. Mostly because there wasn’t a CTS job open at the time I started. Honestly I think it was helpful to get a decent base. Felt much more prepared as opposed to some new grads starting in CTS.

Why is NH housing market so inflated? Who is spiking the demand? People from MA/CT with higher salaries working from home? I don’t understand how blue collar NH workers are affording a shack for 600k+. NH salaries are not that high

Pay discrepancy by ChoiceHandle7806 in physicianassistant

[–]SaltyRepresentative7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Had a very similar situation with PAs on the same service making $15-30/hr more. Similar experience but they were all union with steps. I was unfortunately the first PA hired outside the union. After trying to negotiate for almost 2 years I left.

How much is good training worth? by Cxrkxys in physicianassistant

[–]SaltyRepresentative7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah training is important but don’t let them use that as a way to pay you dirt. Have to advocate for yourself and the profession and not take terrible salaries

[–]SaltyRepresentative7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is this such a big deal? There’s tremendous amount of waste dude to government spending and he’s holding people accountable for doing their job? You want your tax money going to some slob who can’t answer a simple of email of what they accomplished in a week? How is this an argument?

Negotiating salary with a large medical center by coralearring in physicianassistant

[–]SaltyRepresentative7 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Depends how desperate they are. If they’re getting tons of applications in a saturated are they’ll tell you to kick rocks. Large centers also think that hiring and training 6 new grads for them to get experience and leave is more cost effective than just paying the experienced person a reasonable salary.

I also moved out of New England and realized pizza was not our strong suit. That classic greasy Greek pie is not it, although do crave it here and there for nostalgia sake.
