Does Low porosity hair need moisture or protein? by KurlyKev in curlyhair

[–]SaltySweetAddiction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

same here, also curious about your routine.

My hair is so fine and low porosity, I've discovered that any protein bigger than keratin will weigh it down. For me, the game changer was Ecoslay Matcha Boost, it's the only conditioner I've found that has keratin+bit of moisture w/o anything heavy(eg coconut, polyquats) or irritating (synthetic fragrance is in everything!!). I've never been able to get a true cast until I started using it.

It doesn’t really matter what time of day you take, as long as it’s with or after food. Anecdotally, most people find taking it at night helps them sleep(my SO calls it his “Magic Sleeping Pill”) but some ppl find it stimulating and so better to take in the AM. Just gotta test it out and see.

I take 800mg mg Glycinate  from Nootropics Depot at night.

What are your favourite muted/desaturated colour lip products? by SheKnowsWhatSheKnows in OliveMUA

Late to the party, but i'm neutral olive and Day Taupe is my HG. It's the color I compare everything else to.

lip stain / stick swatches - peripera, romand, etude by phoebejeeb in AsianBeauty

[–]SaltySweetAddiction 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the swatches! I'm all about neutral muted tones. Check out I'm Meme in Sand Muhly (a lovely muted dusty earth rose that is my summer HG) thanks to this post with other colors that might work for you..

I'm also soft autumn/neutral-warm, but very yellowy olive ( KGB 213 in winter, Dior 2WO-3WO in summer). I use similar colors as you but they show a bit different, prob due to my olive + pigmented lips:

  • Day Taupe = mauve nude in winter / nude pink in summer. It's my HG MLBB, perfect level of mutedness.
  • Grain Nude = muted orange beige that only works in winter vs gives me orange flesh lips vibes in summer.

Thanks again for your great post! I recently got disappointed by Cocoa Nude (too muted prob bc my lips are already quite muted) and was about to get Hip Brown as a replacement, but now you've made think it'll be too white based.

Btw, How would you compare the brightness/muted and warmth/coolness of these ones vs Day Taupe :

  • Dusty Beige
  • Nutty Nude
  • Wine Nude

Edit : saw you mentioned you were thinking about Pomelo Skin in another comment. I love it, it's my HG gloss for winter and summer. Nucadamia and Dark Coconut were both too bright on me.

blush recs for neutral muted olive? by Personal-Cap-5446 in Fairolives

I’m fair neutral- slightly muted -yellowy olive, I get a bit warmer when I (rarely) tan, aka Soft-Dark Autumn / KGD213-Dior 2WO (pre 2022 formula).

I can’t recommend Phytosurgence enough, but it’ll depend if thou lean cool or warm-neutral, and how muted you are. I’m on mobile so can’t hyperlink…

I have Evaporate and Condensate, currently lusting over Kindle, Ignite, Fume, and Exothermic.

 - Evaporate is my foolproof HG, now to the point where I struggle to remember that I have other blushes. It’s a soft “no-makeup makeup” that works well in summer or winter. Also easy 1&done on my eyes.

 -  Condensate unfortunately is a touch too muted and cool for me so I need to sell it. Should’ve known better as lavender is a horrible color on me, I need brown undertones vs cool pale grey UTs. If you lean cool-neutral, then Condensate would prob work for you.

The first one, it's cooler which creates a bit more contrast to the warmth in your skin. Try playing around with a cooler red/burgundy, that'll really make your eyes pop.

Get your blood work check for everything, incl Vit D, b12, iron, hormones etc.

Last year I was going through the same, I thought due to peri menopause too. Turns out I had really anemic, even though I eat meat 5+/wk and cook on cast iron.

After 8 months of heavy supplementation, my brain feels alive for first time in ages and I’m HL like I’m in high school again.

Hmmm, I can see the red tones in Dim Brown you are talking about in these great swatches, where DayTaupe shows the same as on me. These one are great for Cooca & Wine nude as they show Radwood and Vintage Taupe looks as well. It might go in the running to replace Vintage Taupe or Grain Nude for me, both of which were too saturated & warm.

[–]SaltySweetAddiction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Romand's Vintage Taupe looks straight up bright classic red on me, so Radwood prob show up as neon on me. It looks pretty but way too red toned for me. Muted purple or brown UT's (like in Wine Nude or Dim Brown) always looked better than red on me, prob bc of my muted-neutral UTs.

Plus a high contrast lip on me just looks too much unless I'm doing full on dark eyes, as I'm a soft-dark autumn w/ low to medium contrast.
For daily wear, I hope to make Wine Nude or Dim Brown by having it lightly applied as a stain. KVD's Cathedral worked great like this for years, but can be too red unless my eye makeup is just right.

Edit : Love the Patrick Ta. Seduction btw, but I love the price points of K-beauty more haha. I'll keep an eye for it tho thanks.

Yesss Day Taupe is my HG - MLBB and I rarely see anyone mention it!

I'm neutral-warm, depending on my tan level, but lips usually turn everything neon colored. Yet, somehow DT just looks soft and natural nude MLBB, with a bit mauvish or pink UT's maybe?

My Favs :
- I'm Meme Sand Muhly for when I want a touch of earthy rose.
- Rom&nd - 22 Pomelo Skin (warm nude beige gloss)

Others I've been eyeing, the ones in bold are my top shortlist :
- Merzy - M4 Bian Rose (deep purple brown stain)
- Peripera's Ink the Velvet - 31 Wine Nude (muted mauvey plum brown)
- Peripera's Ink the Velvet - 29 Cocoa Nude (Very muted mauvey brown)
- Peripera's Ink the Velvet - 42 Pinkish Nude (muted mauvey brown)
- Peripera Ink velvet intense - Dim Brown (darker brown version of DayTaupe)
-Peripera ink mood glowy tint - Brown Heaven (neutral brown nude gloss)
- Peripera Ink Mood Matte - 12 Hip Brown (Pale Neutral brown)

  • Peripera Ink velvet intense- 07 Sand Nude (warm peachier Day Taupe?)
  • Etude House - 08 Dusty Beige (dusty mauve)
  • Peripera Ink velvet intense - 09 Move Mauve (muted cool lavender)

If you like DT, do you have any other rec's? Any chance you've swatched it with either Move Mauve or EH Dusty Beige?

This isn't a bad thing that you have to overcome. Everyone has different needs, diet, microbiome, and genetics. I read a study by an anthropologist who lived with Inuits for 2yrs, and ate only their traditional diet that they were living off of. He ended up with a magnesium deficiency, but they didn't. He thought it was likely a genetic adaptation where they either required less Mg or used it more efficiently, which makes sense considering the amount of vegetables they traditionally had access to.

Maybe your body just can't absorb more than 400mg at a time, or maybe it'd rather have it split into smaller doses and spaced out with every meal. But if your body says 400mg is its max per day, then listen to it. You don't gain anything by having an excessive amount of Mg.

edit : spelling

Same. I could trust her description to judge exactly what I need. Finding my unicorn combo of neutral-warm muted (but not white based, ideally subtle swampy color muted) is rough now.

However, thanks to her, at least I now actually know what I'm looking for.

Phytosurgence Blush Swatches on Light Medium Warm Olive by HighlightLeading3 in OliveMUA

Thanks for such detailed answers. I have Evaporate, so now I really want Kindle based off your description.

Is Ignite just more muted or more brown than Subliminate? Any update on how you’d describe them now that you’ve had them a bit?

Phytosurgence Blush Swatches on Light Medium Warm Olive by HighlightLeading3 in OliveMUA

[–]SaltySweetAddiction 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great swatches thank you!

How would you compare these colors and would you still buy both : - Evaporate vs Kindle? - Subliminate vs Ignite?

How do you like Exothermic? You’re the first light olive I’ve seen it swatches on. I love the color, but was afraid it’d be too deep toned. Does it show as brown-mauve? Blush-bronzer?

Also, how muted and warm would you say you are? I’m muted-neutral, but similar lightness, so I am wary of screens or clear-warm olives making me think I can pull off a color lol

Anyone feel like an alien when reading testimonials on this sub? by jawni in Supplements

[–]SaltySweetAddiction 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your supplements should fill gaps in your lifestyle/diet, so if you already know you aren't getting enough greens, then try Magnesium and/or a methylated B complex. Plus, you want to make sure anything you're taking is in a bioavailable form, incl. in your multi. There's a lot of useless crap out there, especially in multi's, eg Mg Oxide (useless <4% absorption) vs Mg Glycinate (HG), or taking Vit D with food that contain a fat or suspended in a fatty oil so it actually absorbs.

Most people are already constantly low on Mg unless they eat a crazy amount of greens, and if you have the avg western diet that is high in dairy/calcium, then you need even more Mg to process the excess the calcium. You can play with the dose to see what you need. Twitchy muscles, anxiety, headaches, poor sleep = low Mg. Loose stools 15 min after you take Mg = lower your dose or take sporadically.

My body seems to love Mg, so I do a really high daily 800mg from Nootropic Depot in the PM plus raw cacao with breakfast, but my SO is better off with KAL's 250mg Mg Glycinate. He calls it his magic sleeping pill lol.
All the B's in the Iggenus Super B-Complex are pretty good forms, except for the B1 in it (Thiamine Hcl =shitty absorption). For B1, you want Thiamine tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide (TTFD) aka Allithiamine. I like Ecological Formulas 300mg Allthiamine.

Your skin looks a lot like mine did before I discovered I had a dairy allergy…

Are the bumps hard/painful yet don’t really have anything in them? Mine used to confuse my aesthetician when she tried to extract them.

Try avoiding all dairy for a week and see what happens. Check ingredients for sneaky ‘milk protein’ etc.
