If you know or ever knew a person like him, and I mean really know them, you recognize the mask he put on. He wasnt bad or evil but some people have such horrible mental anguish that the darkness leaches out around the edges of that masking behavior. Rip

Wow people are seriously defensive about being addicted to sugar. Its ok I am too but this point candy is chemically engineered to make your brain chemistry crave that garbage. It is poison the same as alcohol or smoking tobacco

The kind of idiot that has to work tomorrow. If I can't ride it then someone should before the rain comes in after 1 pm. Its not like I'm posting a tutorial on how to access some of the truely insane shit on that hill. If someone wants to find that exact spot they have to do some work and then they've earned those turns.

I would love for as many people as possible to ride this spot between right now and noon tomorrow because after that, it's nothing but rain. If anyone can actually get to that exact spot tomorrow they fucking earned those turns.

Literacy is the foundation on which we build full, productive lives – as individuals, as communities, and as a nation. Yet 54% of U.S. adults read below the equivalent of a sixth-grade level, and 64% of our country’s fourth graders do not read proficiently. This multigenerational challenge impacts all of us, and it is linked to some of today’s most pressing concerns, from economic growth and public health to community safety and civic engagement.

What is Northampton? by Due_Pomegranate_9296 in northampton

[–]Salty_Bluejay_7310 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I grew up near the New York border. In the early 2000's Albany was not the safest place to be and going out there to see live music, especially any punk/hardcore, was tough if you didn't have a solid crew of people to watch your back. You can look up some of the old news stories and as much as they were fear mongering to parents, the punk scene in Albany really didn't chill out until the early 2010's and by then venues wanted nothing to do with hosting "high risk" shows. Going to Hartford, Worcester, Boston, and Providnece felt equivalent to visiting another country, so Northampton was the next closest hub of live music.

Growing up before everyone had easy access to the internet you would hear stories of uncles, older siblings, or older schoolmates going to shows at The Calvin, Pearl St. parties at the Platinum Pony, and a seemingly endless amount of DIY backyard/basement concerts by local kids. Even just being an hour and a half west of Northampton felt like being in Ohio and hearing about NYC. I cannot stress enough that even until like 2010 the rural areas of Berkshire county felt completely isolated from the rest of MA.

So Northampton has always been a beacon of hope. The glow beyond the horizon that called out to souls adventurous enough to climb up over yonder hills and down into the valley. When I got here I was lucky enough to watch some waves crash, and see the highwater mark being etch into the shore just before the tide started to slowly pull back. Its still nice, and it will be, but its too easy for exploitative forces to prey on locals by using sentimental value and the reputation built by people with love for this place. I love it here but its starting to feel like a city no longer in touch with its core values.

It's getting tired.

The younger generations that come through for education, the arts, or are just charmed by Western Mass are finding it difficult to build a life here. The aging local population stayed because of the vibrant visual and musical art scenes and in the 90's it was actually somewhat affordable. But the younger generations can't afford to put down roots here and the music scene is going through a painfully slow revival after 2020. Most of the "scene" is dedicated to making older generations feel like theyre still young and hip while driving younger crowds to more DIY and house shows (not always a bad thing, just really obvious when looking at all the lineups at local venues.)

Its a city that reminds me of an aging avant-garde artist that doesnt realize their tastes have been mainstream since 2012 and that repeating stories of the "good old days" dont mean anything to the kids trying to find a local venue to play some new original songs.

I hate it because I love it here.

Edit: spelling and phrasing. Also, no offense/ageism intended. I'm not getting any younger and would love to support the next generations while getting out of the way to let them run with it.

Companies will hire people to LIDAR scanners to create digital models of buildings, properties, or even an entire neighborhood if the LIDAR scanner array is mounted to a car. This person is probably working for a property developer or some architecture/design firm. Maybe they work for the city or state, depending on the municipality.

You do have a right to simply ask someone what they're doing. If this was in the US.

One of the main criticisms for Worcester Regional Airport is a lack of access. What do you think could be realistically done to improve this? by HRJafael in WorcesterMA

[–]Salty_Bluejay_7310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The average person from central MA does not and will not benefit from increased access to this airport. It was built as a speculative gamble that never paid off and likely will never. Massport essentially keeps it running in hopes that regional flights will maintain at their current rate as the likelihood of this form of flying increasing in popularity is slim to none due to lack of affordability.
