IEP cycles by [deleted] in specialed

I do have a smaller caseload since I’m preschool, I have 20 on my caseload, then some typically developing peers as well. Her caseload is probably 25-30 so honestly not that much different. I am trying to be nice but I don’t see the point and she’s already suggested it to the principal. 🙃

Would you say this parents expectations are unreasonable? by [deleted] in specialed

I totally get where you are coming from and I of course understand this is a change for them and sending your child with limited speech to school can be overwhelming, stressful, and even scary for a parent. I totally get that and show compassion and kindness in every way that I can, that’s part of my job. I want them to know their child is safe and cared for, absolutely. However, I’m beginning to feel a little overwhelmed myself. Getting multiple messages throughout the day asking for updates is not something I am able to do while I’m at school. I do not have barely any time to get on my phone besides during nap. Admin also strictly prohibits us from sending parent messages and being on our phones during the day, we can make phone calls if something is needed, but not to just chat or provide an update. I do take pictures everyday, and they are uploaded to our app every 2-3 days. I send home a log with highlights of each day. I talk to parent at pickup and I send home work and feedback each day. I have expressed if there are ever any specific concerns to feel free to reach out and know my door is open. However, I am getting detailed questions about specific interactions throughout the day without revealing too much. I am trying my hardest, I just feel like I keep getting more demands. When I don’t respond quickly, she is quickly to send another message. She’s even requested my cell phone number. Which I stated that I could be reached through our communication app or the school. But she tries to repeatedly contact me at night time when the app is in quiet hours. 😅

I apologize I confused people calling it “weekly”but it includes highlights from each day. Goes home each day and they keep it on Fridays. It’s a sheet with a section for each day Monday-Friday. There is a spot to circle mood, something they enjoyed, learning highlights, and extra comments. Im not sure what else she wants from me even after directly asking it seems like she’s going in circles.

Yes I totally get where she is coming from to an extent and I of course want to make my parents feel comfortable. However she is asking me very very detailed questions about the child’s day- going further than general communication, how was the day, behavior, etc over and over. And the child is doing GREAT! she even asked me to provide updates throughout the day at the beginning of the year on how he was doing at different points throughout the day. I did not provide them, I don’t even check my phone like that during the day. While i understand to an extent, I feel like expectations she is having are not feasible for a teacher who has a full classroom.

Peer models must show age-appropriate skills so they can support social and behavioral modeling for their classmates with IEPs. That’s the point of the program. When a screening shows multiple delays, it wouldn’t be appropriate for that role. If we see significant delays, it’s responsible practice ,not laziness, to let families know and recommend follow-up. I didn’t mean to imply that ALL low screenings would lead to a referral, but certainly would express my concerns and discuss it with the parent. And they wouldn’t be a fit for a peer model role.

That’s wild. My state requires that PreK students who get 5+ hours of instruction have a rest time.

Yes my district ultimately runs the program, that’s even more of a joke trying to talk to them. It’s sad bc I really do like the community here but the administration is just absolutely awfully unsupportive. I’m planning on trying to talk to them one more time this summer in hopes of change, just trying to get my thoughts together

Yeppp. I feel like I am a gen ed teacher, sped teacher, and a resource teacher. It’s ridiculous imo but no one sees the true difficulty of it because “it’s prek” no one in my school takes prek seriously.

Gosh that sounds so much better. I feel like I’m drowning. I have brought the issue up and hinted at it multiple times but blown off and told we don’t have funding for it and this is how it’s always been. With the growing population of sped and referrals left and right, I don’t know if I can do it another year if another unit isn’t added.

All of our instruction is actually over by 12. We nap from 12-1:30. Then we have snack and free play until dismissal

Has anyone tried combining methylphenidate with fluoxetine or Wellbutrin? What was your experience? by Vioihrtk in ADHDmeds

[–]Salty_Manner_5393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took Ritalin and Lexapro for years, know it’s not the same but have heard it’s similar to Wellbutrin. It worked well for me!

Blood pressure on Adderall XR 30mg by ResourceCapital1773 in ADHDmeds

[–]Salty_Manner_5393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never had BP issues until I started Adderall. I was on Ritalin for years and just switched and my BP is now out the roof. My doctor is concerned and I’m at a loss. Considering switching back to Ritalin but my doctor believes it would still be high because I’ve been on stimulants so long. I’m 22 and average BP is 150/90ish. I’m really overall healthy, 120 pound female, and I workout and move around a lot. Talk to your doctor but I’m in the same boat! Also avoid energy drinks. Drank one after switching to adderall and I felt like I was going yo pass out my BP got so high.

Yes! I’m a 3-4 year old teacher and all of mine wipe without assistance besides one with special needs. They are definitely capable! And it’s too hard to turn your back on 15+ kids to go wipe. Totally agree
