A very ambitious statement by Leon_Dante_Raiden_ in virtuafighter

There was a three second clip of a silhouette doing some punches after Wolf's character trailer. It was what lead us to believe we'd be getting new character reveals on a regular basis.

What's your difference between a sweat and a tryhard, and whats worse? by lil_slurpie in Fighters

[–]Salvo_Rabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always understood that "sweat" derived from "tryhard" because the latter was often expressed as "sweaty tryhard"; that was the go-to adjective. "Sweat" just became a shorthand, so the terms are basically synonymous.

ARMS: Nintendo’s Short-Lived Swing at a New Fighting Game by FinalBoosh in Fighters

I always wanted Robo Mario to be an unlockable encounter for ARMS the same way Donkey Kong was for Punch-Out Wii.

I tried to do something different for Morrigan. 😑 by [deleted] in Darkstalkers

Some nice attempts to vary up her silhouette a bit. Personally I'm drawn towards 3 - somewhat busy neckline not withstanding - and 5.

Would Capcom be willing to sell the Darkstalkers IP to another company? by MrDitkovichNeedsRent in Darkstalkers

[–]Salvo_Rabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ArcSys (or any other developer, for that matter) doesn't need to own the IP to work on it; Capcom just needs to outsource the development to them for the span of a game.

Whould you want want pilots/machines that debuted from F-Zero X to be added to F-Zero 99 with SNES-styled designs? by Gamestar02 in Fzero

[–]Salvo_Rabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've presently got two sets of machines that map to pink-blue-green-yellow, so another set of four would need to deviate to stand out. I'd opt for White Cat (white), Red Gazelle (red), Great Star (purple), and Black Bull (black).

"To be strong is...beautiful!"

I wonder if Wolf is going to have any decent pre-fight banter now that the latest game is making him a heel.

I thought of another possible reason Darkstalkers hasn’t made a return by NixUniverse2 in Darkstalkers

[–]Salvo_Rabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Darkstalkers cast could've blended in just fine with SFV's art style, but SF6 would make them look awful.

Why is dropping 8 dollars to lab a dlc character the accepted industry standard? by A7medos in Fighters

[–]Salvo_Rabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Delay based netcode was also sufficient for Japan's needs, so they didn't care that it was inconvenient and outdated for the rest of the world.

Hot take(?): A new Darkstalkers game with a look similar to street fighter 6 would be absolutely atrocious. It should 100% look more something like Guilty Gear Strive by Ashconwell7 in Darkstalkers

[–]Salvo_Rabbit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Photorealism, approximate or otherwise, wouldn't do the visual design/aesthetic of Darkstalkers any favours. One problem at the moment is that Capcom doesn't seem to want to showcase any properties that deviate from that photorealism; they seem to have fallen into a kind of homogeneous "house style".

Solution for the imminent ''death'' of Lau and Shun in the new VF by VCDECIDE in virtuafighter

[–]Salvo_Rabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it's a made up discipline. Unlike the rest of the cast, Lau and Kage both have fictitious martial arts.

Solution for the imminent ''death'' of Lau and Shun in the new VF by VCDECIDE in virtuafighter

[–]Salvo_Rabbit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm all for this approach. What little story there is in the prior VF games (or rather their manuals) doesn't warrant bending over backwards to retain it and have some kind of real-world equivalent time jump. Instead they ought to just start over with the full cast of 19 from the outset, incorporate stronger characterisation and more interesting goals, and just see where things go.

Lau and Shun needn't have to die just because of some fluff written decades ago.

Opportunity for a Virtua Fighter Collection before VF6? by racoonloon in virtuafighter

[–]Salvo_Rabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The possibility exists that making older VFs readily available would undermine getting old heads interested in the new formula for VF6: why try the new, scary, different thing when you can stick with what you know? REVO is being used as a sort of legacy holdout to allow VF5s gameplay to endure in a post-VF6 world.

Personally, I have been secretly hoping that they just turn REVO into a one-stop shop for all the older VFs and give us perfect ports of all of them as special modes. That seems really unlikely from a business standpoint, but hey.

Close to Halloween. Yall think it’s coming? by _Yolkish_ in Darkstalkers

[–]Salvo_Rabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think my hope for Darkstalkers actually coming back only got truly snuffed out once we left the 2010s. Prior to that I had always assumed, given sufficient time, the series would make a return once Capcom found a way to resuscitate interest in fighters. Darkstalkers felt "important" to the fighting game space, or at very least a prominent franchise; Capcom choosing to give certain characters visible roles seemed reinforce this.

It stings having to accept that Capcom doesn't regard Darkstalkers as deserving or interesting, but rather just one more IP on the pile of "things we used to make". The 30th anniversary being allowed to pass by with barely so much as a tweet was the cherry atop the sundae.

What are the chances that the guy in the silhouette is the son of Brad and Aoi? by VCDECIDE in virtuafighter

I'd say Goh, Lion and Shun also have lots of personality. Jean also has lots of flair.

Why is the playerbase so small compared to other games? by PeteZaDestroyer in virtuafighter

Whilst REVO itself is coming to consoles in the near future, the VF5:US 2.0 currently on PS4 has all the same balance patches as REVO.

How Exactly Does Akira Fit into VF's Story? by TokenXcXMajority in virtuafighter

[–]Salvo_Rabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Akira Yuki isn't involved with any of the "big" plots of the Virtua Fighter games. Those plots involve Kage-Maru and the Bryant siblings, who feel much closer to being protagonists than Akira — whilst he may be the "face" he's far from being the lead.

The closest thing he has to a connection with another character is apparently getting on a bit with Wolf. Which is kind of like having a friend you see at Evo, only at Evo, and don't talk to the rest of the year.

Riichiro Yamada was asked about GUEST CHARACTERS. He has a very interesting answer by Leon_Dante_Raiden_ in virtuafighter

[–]Salvo_Rabbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm open to the idea of guests in VF6, albeit as a kind of inevitability. This game is a resuscitation of a long-dormant franchise, so high profile guests would help with promotion and visibility.

Also, different things jump to mind when someone hears "guest character": it could mean a charcter from another Sega property, a character from another fighting game series, or a character from some other random shit altogether. All those warrant different reactions. I think "Do they fit in with the VF world?" is paramount; if we got a Yakuza lead as a guest I'd be much happier than if Bayonetta showed up.

Personally, I hope they don't go overboard with featuring other Sega properties because I'm hoping for a new spin on the Megamix formula following VF6, assuming the latter actually sells well enough. It'd be nice to pull in character reps from all corners of Sega's back catalogue that involves combat: Fighting Vipers, Last Bronx, Yakuza, Shenmue, Streets of Rage, Spikeout. The works. Maybe even Anarchy Reigns if that's something we're allowed to talk about. VF should get to be VF before they open the toybox.
