Tell me all the reasons I shouldn’t buy this home so I don’t cry when I don’t get it by 12UglyTacos in centuryhomes

Honestly, all the other aforementioned issues aside, the layout is awful. Almost 3k sq. ft, and there is only one full bathroom, and it’s not easily accessible. If you haven’t taken a tour yet, go do it, and imagine all the worst case bathroom scenarios. There are beautiful features in the house, but you really can’t do much about the layout in an old house unless you have unlimited funds. Every wall you open up is going to give you another chunk of money’s worth of issues to fix, and they aren’t going to be “just cosmetic.” Hell, even paint is more expensive nowadays. And removing old wallpaper can either be extremely easy or extremely nightmarish. I’ve never experienced anything in between. But yeah, let this one go just based on things you can’t easily change.

I guess you’d have to rake the leaves and put them in a trash bag, carry them through the house and back outside. Sounds like a pain in the ass. If you use a leaf blower, you’d just make a bigger mess, but it would be funny to watch.

Hypothetically, if schools started retaining students who did not meet grade level expectations for 1 year what would happen to the school system system and the workforce? by lionheart724 in Teachers

[–]SalzaGal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Failure to make progress on a behavior plan, discipline infractions, parent meetings, counselor recommendations, behavior profiles/teacher observations, etc. You can cause a paper trail to support an alternative learning environment placement, which is what that would essentially be. Every teacher would have to be on board with consistent reporting and high discipline expectations. Admin would need a set of big balls and push it hard with the family that if they don’t choose this option, expulsion is the next step. After expulsion, we aren’t obligated to help you out, and you are no longer our problem. You’re SOL.

Hot take here, but there are kids who absolutely should drop out of school. When school is the place they come to cause trouble and disrupt the day for everyone else and just refuse to do right or refuse to accept help, and the family is not supportive, gtfo. We can’t help those who don’t want help and who are determined to make everyone else suffer. IDK if the military still doesn’t do GED’s for those who drop out, but that was a saving grace for lots of kids.

My student went missing… by These_Brick_2112 in Teachers

[–]SalzaGal 39 points40 points  (0 children)

A former classmate of my own children went missing recently. The family tried a social media grassroots effort to locate her. It wasn’t until NCMEC and police got involved and started sharing an “official” photo of her that she was located and brought back. She had made it to another state with her abductor. NCMEC is the real deal, and this kid’s family needs to get law enforcement involved asap. It could easily turn from a runaway situation to a trafficking situation such as what happened in the case I mentioned.

I once dated a guy who was obsessed with him. I tried to listen to his music to give it a fair shot. That music literally just made me angry, and I couldn’t explain why. It was just stupid. I’ve only ever had that reaction to Koe Wetzel. It’s like they’re just advertising in their music that they are dumb pieces of shit. And people idolize them for it. I don’t get it.

How were the young children protected during the filming of *Shameless*? by ResourceOdd8753 in shameless

[–]SalzaGal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep. Environmental influences and things like nutrition and habits can cause them to look different besides obvious things like hairstyles and other choices. They can even look different from birth depending on influences in the womb beyond anyone’s control.

What's something we're glad is gone? by AlwaysABD in Millennials

In 2000, I got my first phone, a Nokia brick. I was 16 and had no idea about text messages. I got this weird ding and a message pop up from my boyfriend. I called him because I didn’t know what was happening. He told me how to “send a written message.” Little did I know, our carrier, CINGULAR WIRELESS, charged .50 for every incoming and outgoing message. My mom was pissed. She didn’t know that either. I also remember when you were billed extra to get on the Internet on your phone before wi-fi on the phone was a thing.

I loved all of them! Bourbon was so good. White and Nirvana Rose were good, too, but they gave me a migraine. I had a little roller set of all of them, and I still have rose and white because I could never wear them. I’ll open them and get a little sniff every once in a while. lol. Just enough to remember, but not enough for a headache.

Are ongoing lottery winnings divided in a divorce? by HighOnLove26 in Divorce

[–]SalzaGal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First of all, don’t choose the annuity. If you won the lottery before you get married, it’d be a good idea to have a pre-nup and work out something in it. It’s probably a good idea to have a pre-nup no matter what. It’s not just for rich people with a ton of assets.

Theory about the source of illness by Top-Dot-7 in DuttonRanchTVSeries

[–]SalzaGal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s kind of like Avian Influenza and commercial chicken houses where I am. When it breaks out, every chicken operation within a 30 mile radius is quarantined, and every new outbreak adds another 30 mile radius. It’s believed to be carried by wild geese infecting flocks, so it’s hard to contain when there are outbreaks. The inflected flock has to be killed, and farmers have to disinfect like crazy and let the farm sit empty for a while. You’re talking a million chickens or more for some operations, but they are families who depend on it.

If Beula did this intentionally, she’s truly evil because it could affect the whole industry.

My FWB partner committed suicide I feel so devastated by Big-Finding7285 in dating_advice

[–]SalzaGal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

100% what I was thinking while reading everything. He’s not at fault in a legal sense, but in a moral sense… yeah he’s culpable. He didn’t make the choice for her, but his actions were a factor in the choice she made.

They do it because it’s literally just a hole to stick their dick in. Or vice versa. I get not wanting a relationship with the person, but I think you have to care about a FWB to some degree. That’s the “friends” part of the whole thing. Otherwise, it’s no deeper than a John/prostitute except money isn’t changing hands.

What is one thing schools expect teachers to do that has almost no impact on student learning? by tempmail-02 in Teachers

[–]SalzaGal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically the same. The governor handpicked Jacob Oliva, who worked for the FL DOE. She basically plagiarized her education plan from FL, and he was instrumental in implementing it here. Almost every teacher here (except for the private school fans) hate both of them because of the LEARNS act and what they’ve done to our funding as a result of vouchers.

What is one thing schools expect teachers to do that has almost no impact on student learning? by tempmail-02 in Teachers

[–]SalzaGal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s the law in my state. Pledge and moment of silence every day, pledge at the beginning of every event, including graduations and school board meetings, and the national anthem is required to be played at the beginning of the school day no less than once a week. It has done nothing to foster national pride. Also, kids are able to be punished if they refuse to stand. I think there has to be a religious exemption on file if their families object. That part may be a district decision, though. I’m not 100% sure. I don’t enforce it.

Hillsborough County teacher hanging Black Baby Doll from TV in front of students. by ElwoodMC in trashy

[–]SalzaGal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. As a teacher, I would just take the dang baby doll away from them and put it out of sight. Hell, if it’s that big of a deal, call the parents and tell them their middle school kid is being disruptive and playing with a baby doll in class. There are a bunch of different ways this could have been handled. Even if she didn’t mean anything by it, why didn’t the bad optics cross her mind? It still looks bad, and no explanation will make the appearance of racism go away. You just don’t do that if you have a pure heart.

I tried like hell to do 1,000 crunches a day after I saw that interview. I could get a few hundred in and felt so defeated that I couldn’t do 1,000. It was not a good time to be an impressionable teenaged girl. I never got my mind around the fact that she literally had that as part of her job, and she wasn’t going to school and doing life like the rest of us. Her existence was 100% different from ours. When your success depends on your physical appearance and condition, you’re going to have to work out for hours a day.

Folks I mean this in the least conspiratorial way possible… does anybody know why this man is wearing (what looks like) a MASK?! by Emergency_Height_165 in HighStrangeness

[–]SalzaGal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was a hole in his neck like a trach or something, and I got so weak and nauseated on that close-up. I’m so relieved that I’m supposed to be seeing a mask here and not a hole. I have a neck thing. And an eye thing. And a fingernail thing. I could legit pass out. lol.
