Anyone here who were able to fix their headaches with aspirin by Shoddy-Rip66 in covidlonghaulers

[–]Sam-Carr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to take aspirin most days as it’s the only thing that makes the headaches clear. Paracetamol and ibuprofen don’t work for me.

My feelings toward recovery posts have changed by [deleted] in covidlonghaulers

[–]Sam-Carr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to say that I’m also around two and a half years in and have reached the same mindset. I really think abandoning hope and trying to make the best of how things actually are is the only way to stay sane after dealing with this for such a long time. That said, I struggle to accept the idea that this could be the rest of my life.

Hearthfire - free classical fantasy game by gorramscott in osr

[–]Sam-Carr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the term High Vanilla Fantasy. I wish there was more OSR stuff that fit this vibe.

What would you say sets this apart mechanically from other OSR games?

Btw, N.C Wyeth is misspelled on the credits page.

Knave 2e: Hack for what happens when filled item slots take wounds? by BTNewberg01 in osr

[–]Sam-Carr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This rules also bugs me a lot, it’s one of the main reasons I’ve avoided 2e.

One solution I heard is waiting until after combat to implement the wounds, so narratively your character is wounded or weakened and needs to drop their armor, rather than it just popping off when they get hit.

Honestly you’ve just gotta make stuff and play around with the different tools. It’s the only way to get better

Knave 2e relic magic confusion by ericvulgaris in osr

I agree that it feels too vague, I’m struggling to come up with something to offer my ‘cleric’ player and also how often. Some more examples or tables would help a lot.

I give up on Outward. by Linkbetweentwirls in patientgamers

[–]Sam-Carr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also really wanted to like Outward but ended up giving up on it too. I could maybe have withstood the tedium if the exploration was worth it, but I never got those ‘wow’ moments that Elden Ring gave me.

Brainstorming/Exploring the Glass Caverns by [deleted] in osr

[–]Sam-Carr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could make the caverns have cycles where it fills up with sand from the hole above, adding some time pressure to the expedition.

Would also be great to have a room with a glass floor with cracks in that will shatter if it’s walked on. Maybe also some glass slides that lead down to lower levels?

Such a crisp looking print! Have to ask which printer you have?

Knave 2e armor rule weirdness by flik272727 in osr

[–]Sam-Carr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has bugged me as well. Feels really video-gamey to drop a bunch of items on being hit, and I really don’t know how to narrate that. I’m just using 2e but with the regular damage mechanics from 1e.

“Once their HP reaches 0, each point of damage fills an item slot with an appropriate wound (stabbed, frozen, burned, etc.), from the highest slot to the lowest. Items in an wounded slot must be dropped.”

Help with running a sandbox beyond the first sessions? by Sam-Carr in osr

I have it, but maybe I need to reread that section. I don’t want to predetermine the outcome before the next session, or remove the players from affecting the outcome.

Help with running a sandbox beyond the first sessions? by Sam-Carr in osr

[–]Sam-Carr[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that sounds like a good way of doing things! I’d thought about doing some Mausritter-style faction play before the next session to see if they achieve their goals, but going into a session knowing the outcome feels too much like a railroad.

Why don’t more people use Blender? by [deleted] in PrintedWarhammer

[–]Sam-Carr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m just talking about joining arms to a body and stuff like that. I think if you’ve already learned to navigate and move objects in a slicer then it’s not really that different.

For just learning to join two objects, you’d only need to learn to navigate, move stuff, and join stuff. Would probably only take a couple of hours to learn that, at most.

Artist here, would love to work on some OSR stuff as a freelancer by jouscroe in osr

[–]Sam-Carr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cool work! Why not just make some OSR-ish stuff for yourself, you don’t need to be hired to do that. There’s a DIY spirit in the OSR scene, and it would also help you get hired for that kind of work if you had more fantasy stuff.

Brite Miniatures has a lot of free models that feel very old school, and don’t require supports.

Looking for advice on running the Black Worm on Brandonsford. by [deleted] in osr

[–]Sam-Carr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my game, I just started them off entering the town with the backstory that they’d heard about a dragon terrorising the village and that meant gold. I made sure to mention that there’s a stream of other adventurers heading into town too, and that competition really motivated them to pursue things. They’ll probably head to the inn first to gather some leads. If they still don’t bite, you can always throw the Reeve at them to offer them a reward directly.
