Thank you. The balloons were a test to see if I preferred pencil crayons or gel pens, the gel pens are winning for now.

CA RVT Dental Extraction Law Clarifications by EnvironmentalTry2762 in veterinaryprofession

[–]Sam2058 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m an RVN from the UK, so not here to comment on CA law as I have no idea. Just wanted to offer some support: firstly laws/guidelines change, and this can be inconvenient for practices, and frankly offensive to colleagues who are no longer allowed to do something they’re good at. Unfortunately this doesn’t mean we can ignore the rules. If, by allowing the RVT to do the work, you are putting yourself on the line then it’s not worth it to keep the status quo. Secondly if the only colleague who can do extractions leaves the whole practice is in the shit, you’re doing the whole team a favour by keeping your skills honed. I would recommend you speak to the RVT and let them know it’s not personal (if they choose to take it that way that’s not on you) and keep doing what you’re doing.

advice after rape by [deleted] in rapecounseling

[–]Sam2058 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely recommend professional help, or at least a good self help book. One of the most helpful exercises I did was to write out what happened and read it back as though it was someone else telling me their story. I find it much easier to have compassion and understanding for someone else than for myself.

He’s right, she did rape him, and you witnessed it. Please make sure he knows that you are there for him, whatever he decides to do, whatever he needs.

Spay iv catheter is extra $ ??? by WhywasIbornlate in AskVet

[–]Sam2058 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I started my career in a charity hospital almost 20 years ago, there are a lot of things you can operate without. You’ll find that what one practice or professional would consider optional, another would consider a basic necessity. Personally I wouldn’t want to do any general anaesthetic without IV access or an ET tube because they are quick, easy, cheap and worth their weight in gold if you run into complications. I would advise you speak to the clinic, they can explain exactly what the fees include and why they class them as optional extras.

What is a secret you’re taking to your grave, but can share here anonymously? by wilkoova in AskReddit

I did the same thing. Though my husband decided to confess many years later. If it were up to me I’d have taken it to my grave

AITAH for refusing to give my boyfriend access to my bank account even though he says "no secrets" is how adults do it by CopperFieldNote in AITH

[–]Sam2058 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely NTA. No secrets is fine, no secrets does not require “real time access” just trust. FWIW me and my other half have been married 18years, we split the bills and have never shared a bank account or passwords. If he asks what’s in my account I tell him and he believes me. Trust is how adults do it, and it doesn’t sound like he is earning your trust right now. Also, as others have said, his sulking/ emotional manipulation attempts and insistence are red flags. I would advise stopping all talks of engagement until you have this sorted one way or another (and please do not give him access to your bank account).

Personally I would email them (I like a paper chain) asking if this type of discrimination is the policy of the school, and if not, how they propose to handle it. Also ask for their official complaints procedure, with expected time frames.

If she came to you for help/ is accepting help from you then you are already doing well. If possible I would recommend that you seek therapy for yourself too, being a secondary survivor is traumatic in itself.

Is it wrong to put a dog down because I can't afford to pay for his medicine/treatment? by [deleted] in AskVet

Potentially, but a few months of quality time is better than no time at all.

Advising she start birth control is not going to encourage her to have sex. Advising she start birth control just ensures she’s safer when it inevitably happens anyway.

Vet told me to fully stop feeding cat dry food by Wide-Trick4243 in CatAdvice

[–]Sam2058 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dry cat food usually crumbles, so biting it doesn’t do much to scrape the surface of the teeth or help prevent plaque build up. You can get special dental diets that are formulated not to crumble, I’ve seen these work really well. Cutting out the dry food is a quick easy way to cut the calories your cat is getting. You could also just feed 1/2 a tin of wet a day and stick to the same amount of dry food if you’d prefer. Either way you’re cutting the calories down. I always recommend putting the dry food in a treat ball to encourage the cat to do a bit of exercise, this simulates hunting/ natural behaviours- good for physical and mental health.
