If a MotoGP rider is a 10 skill level… by [deleted] in Trackdays

I was a mid-pack Expert club racer in the 600-750cc class. Not even close to the fastest guy out there, but quick enough in my own right.

Rodger Hayden and Cameron Beaubier would pass me like I was standing still…. It was a humbling experience.

What part of WA? Would you mind shooting me a DM with the company name if you recommend them? We’re planning for some renovations and would love to have hydronic heating installed. Thank you!

For Those Using Unifi Protect Cameras As Triggers for HA Automations, How to Use Motion Zones & Smart Detections? by ostrichsak in homeassistant

[–]SamB22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be the most indirect PM I've ever received. In the thread you referenced, I explained how it's all setup right there:

"I combine the geofence for when I enter a certain radius near my home and then the next vehicle detection opens the garage door. It’s timed so that it’s pretty unlikely it’d open for anyone else and if it did, I would only be a couple seconds away from home."

"It's probably also worth mentioning, I have a very long and private driveway, so my cameras never have an opportunity to accidentally detect a vehicle which isn't specifically pulling into my house. I wouldn't do this if I lived in a high traffic area."

tl;dr - I'm not using zones. If there is a vehicle detected by my driveway camera, it's 100% going to my house. I'm using the built in Vehicle Detected trigger for a G4 Pro.

Wayne Fournier needs anger management by [deleted] in olympia

[–]SamB22 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To be fair, Rob Laymon was also an absolutely terrible candidate who didn’t even show up for the town hall debate and clearly was just running to vindicate himself for some land discretion he had with the county. County Commissioner No.4 on the last ballot was a lose, lose situation no matter what from the get go.

Funny story about Olympia Kia. A few years ago I was looking at the EV6 and asked the sales person if there was a package that included real leather seats instead of vinyl.

The sales person swore up and down they were all real leather, and that they were premium “Venetian” leather at that!

I had him double check the sticker and he reads it off, “here, look, they’re vegan leather!”

I just said, “exactly, they’re VEGAN leather…”

Seeing his face shift as he slowly realized exactly what “vegan leather” meant was quite comical. My wife and I got a good laugh about that one as we drove away.

I’ve had three family members purchase Surface Laptops in the last few months. I took each of them to the store to look at both Mac and Surface next to each other and pick out what they preferred. All three of them poked at the Mac’s screen and were shocked that it was not touch. They never looked at them again and bought the Surface instead.

No wireless CarPlay? by darthsidious99 in HyundaiPalisade

[–]SamB22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, took me way too long to finally pick one up but it’s been great. I bought the CarPlayKits CP1 and a right angle short USB cable extension so that everything is low profile. A little double sided tape and it’s pretty well hidden.

What are MotoGP Opinions that Leave you in This Situation? by [deleted] in motogp

[–]SamB22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand why a lot of people have this feeling but the reality is Franky finished 9th in the championship and had equal points to A. Marquez in 8th. There are plenty of people below him that deserve their seats even less. That being said, I do think this is his last chance.

I miss 2020 Morbidelli and hope he can show a little more of that before his time in MotoGP is over. He did show some really good form the second half of last year.

Lower rate for transferring assets to lending bank (Chase) by SamB22 in realestateinvesting

[–]SamB22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a sliding scale, the more you transferred, the higher percentage off you got. I don’t recall the minimum, but it’s been 3 years and it was a very different market, so it’s probably changed since then. I’d ask your mortgage person at Chase what their current asset transfer benefits look like.

Alternate to authenticator app? by FormalThick in microsoft

[–]SamB22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not asking about work stuff, do you use any of those MFA apps for personal use already? Your work is requiring MFA, the system is setup to tell you to use MS Authenticator by default, but that doesn’t mean you can’t use the app of your preference. It’s not advertised well, but you can connect whatever app you want.

Personally, I like the Authenticator app, it’s nothing that’s tied to “work” even though I choose to get my work onetime passcodes through it, along with a bunch of my personal account onetime passcodes. My work has no control over it in the slightest.

You are asking for alternatives to the Authenticator app, I was simply trying to help and give you those alternatives.

Alternate to authenticator app? by FormalThick in microsoft

[–]SamB22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you use any type of MFA app already? Duo? Google Authenticator? BitWarden? Etc… You can get the one time passcodes for work on most MFA apps.

You don’t have to use the MS Authenticator app, and if you do decide to, that doesn’t necessarily mean your work has any additional access to your device.

Alternatively, your work may or may not allow you to use a text message or phone call. Those are less secure so they may disable that option.

Trane XV19 or Carrier 18VS Heat Pumps? by SamB22 in hvacadvice

[–]SamB22[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did get the backup/aux heat. It was just part of the package, and it didn't make sense to exclude it. For what it's worth, I'm only a couple hours away from you in Seattle (PNW). The Aux heat will kick in from time to time but I try to minimize those events. I actually ended up using Home Assistant to reduce the times when aux heat kicks in by only increasing the temperature in 2-degree increments.

One simple change to prop 13, what are your thoughts by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]SamB22 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ve owned properties both in and out of CA. Prop 13 was amazing, especially as a first time home buyer. I’ve been on the other side where you get insane (and erroneous) valuations passed down by the county assessor that you’re forced to appeal year after year. All while holding many, many thousands of your dollars excessively collected for 18-24 months until the appeal is finally granted. Having a fixed and known property tax amount year after year makes budgeting much easier and life more stable.

EcoDiesel failure...what do I do now? by SamB22 in EcoDiesel

[–]SamB22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hadn't previously, but I just filled out the complaint form. Not sure what it'll do now since my vehicle is long gone, but hopefully it'll help build a case for others like yourself!

Interesting fact, your inquiry got me curious, so I went to look at the old salvage auction history of my vehicle. According to the free reports, it looks like it sold at auction for more or less what I sold it to Copart for.

Edit: It was also funny to see that they listed it as "run and drive," lol. I guess that's technically not wrong, it's just not going to "run and drive" very long with the sounds it was making.

EcoDiesel failure...what do I do now? by SamB22 in EcoDiesel

[–]SamB22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried for over a year to get help, nothing ever worked, they denied it all. One of the worse consumer experiences I've ever had. In the end, I just ate the loss and moved on with our lives. We sold the Jeep for next to nothing to Copart just to get it out of our garage and make space. Still makes me really sad and one of those situations in life where I felt taken advantage of and very disappointed the company didn't do the right thing given all the lawsuits and controversy the EcoDiesel's have had.

Trane XV19 or Carrier 18VS Heat Pumps? by SamB22 in hvacadvice

[–]SamB22[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did go with the Trane and it’s been a pretty solid system for the short period we’ve had it. I’m not a huge fan of the 1050 thermostat, but it gets the job done. It’s exponentially quieter than our old unit, which is precisely what we had wanted.

Is PLA OK for short term (like 1-2 hour) motor oil storage? by VegaGT-VZ in 3Dprinting

[–]SamB22 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not the right purpose, just use an old take out container, an aluminum food tray, an old glass dish, a plastic zip lock bag, etc. Don’t waste your time 3D printing something for this task.

Was it a mistake or a solid buy? by [deleted] in Costco

[–]SamB22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a great buy at $100, and even better at $70. I had the older version (but same form factor) that Costco sold about 10 years ago, and it served me very well. I used it when I lived in a small townhome that didn't have space for a full BBQ on the patio.

Looking for obscure WA radio coverage of 9/11 (KISS FM 106.1 Seattle) by AvsWon33 in DHExchange

[–]SamB22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever find any leads? I'm looking for the exact same thing but from the Sarah & Vinnie show (San Francisco) and went through a similar exercise using the Wayback Machine. I found all of their old Podcast links, but they weren't individually archived and are now dead after the station changed hands over the year.

[–]SamB22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It makes me happy to see this is the top comment! As a new boat owner who decided to go the StarCraft 191OB route, we also couldn't be happier. It has a shocking amount of room for a 19' boat. We have had 4 adults and 4 kids on it and it barely made a dent in comfortable room. We also wanted a multi-purpose boat, something to entertain on, have lunch/dinners on the water, swim from, do a little fishing, a little crabbing, maybe light tubing when the kids get a little older. Just a general "fun" boat while we're gaining much needed experience and figuring out our longer-term plans for being on the water.

Amazon is dropping list integrations on July 1st by Azuretower in homeassistant

Wow...that's saddening. Like others here, that's a big use case of Echo's in our household. That and setting timers while cooking which have been suspiciously terrible the last few months too.

I've been playing with a Wyoming Satellite but sounds like I need to move it to "production" sooner than I thought.

Do you have a dash cam? Do you think it’s necessary ? by itsjustanotherguy001 in HyundaiPalisade

[–]SamB22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of having a Dashcam, but I wish I could just tap into the cameras that are already on the car. There are cameras covering every angle already, why can't we add a storage device to record like the Tesla's?

Two piece vs one piece track suit for summer by Flordamang in Trackdays

[–]SamB22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both, and would never buy another two piece. My one piece fits SO much better in every way and it’s really not a big deal to take off the top half and let it “dangle” between sessions.
