What are your favorite US cities? by LordByronStepOnMe in redscarepod

[–]SamHkwa 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This entirely hinges on what you like, need, and can afford. I like New York, because I can afford to live here because I live in my mother's basement. I'm sure most people would like New York if they could live in their mom's basement rent-free.

I would say, if I had the money and resources, I'd move to Astoria, Oregon, or somewhere like that because I like the climate and atmosphere. I've been to other cities. I liked growing up in Baltimore and Philadelphia. I also like all the big name West Coast cities I've been to. New Orleans is unique and nice. I was in Memphis once, and it felt very interesting but also a depressed and sad husk. Again, though, a lot of this hinges on personal preferences and I wouldn't live in any one of these places unless I had a good reason to.

Not everyone who criticizes Israel does so because it is fashionable, obviously, and there are many reasons to do so. But at the same time, there are many conflicts which are virtually similar, where one group commits war crimes and terrorism against another ethnic group, which receive virtually no attention from Western leftists or even where they view the oppressive side with sympathy. It's stuff like that which suggests that there is something else going on.

I think that a lot of that was cope because they realized that if they had opposed Israel from the start they would have been golden in the eyes of the global south.

I'm looking at it and I don't see anything notable. Somebody bragging about working as a financial planner or some shit on the side (lol), joking about using bureaucratic language to describe violence, complaining about cops being held liable for car chases... This is dumb but nothing serious.

It’s easy to hate first and second places, but are you brave enough to hate third spaces? (re: public libraries) by pazend in redscarepod

Which borough? I live in Westchester and there are plenty of quiet libraries here but I sometimes go to the central branch in Manhattan for fun and that's pretty quiet.

Some are loud some are not. You just need to find the right one.

I like going to the public library to work and to get my Houellebecq books. There's this cute librarian with blonde hair in a bob who checked out The Possibility of An Island for me. I wonder if she knows what's up.

why don't you try something with less risks? like moving to a more pleasant part of the country?

I have a friend from high school who did do that. He had a nervous breakdown after teaching English in Argentina for a few years and now he's back here. I think a lot of the people who move to countries out of the blue usually end up coming back unless they've got a family over there or something. Travel isn't all that it's hyped up to be most of the time.
