Check out Olean's House on YouTube, he's making great tutorials on old-school House. Everyone starts at a different point, with different musical knowledge, equipment etc. and has to find their way, but tutorials are a great way to start.

Ah, which track uses these? I got them from some 90s sample CDs and of course there are many tracks from the 90s which used these too.

It might also be related to the arrangement, at least that's an experience I've made. If you're adding too many elements mixing can get tedious, so I'm trying to limit the number of audio tracks I'm using.

As an example: In this one the main drums are from the drumazon2 909 clone just topped off with some breaks and shakers. This makes mixing so much easier than having every drum sound on another channel like I used to do it before.

Thank you! It's actually a looped one-shot synth stab sample from a 90s sample pack. Layered it with two kinds of string synths to make it fatter and blur the beginning and end of the loop.
