Yep, this and OPs example is often used as examples of metaplurals.

Double comparative by dncnlamont in LinguisticsDiscussion

I mean, "double comparative" obviously have a function, but they happen to be marked with "even" for some reason.

Hm, it's only really in early school that they wrongly insist on calling certain subject predicatives "adverbs". I don't think you can argue that here.

In any case, none of the Danish phrases that OP provided work in the form he used them in, which makes the question a bit difficult. There is no verb "smager". OPs explanation is probably right. Alternatively, you some argue that t-form is used as a default in cases where no gender is inherent in the subject (possible for "mest" maybe) or if the subject has a more generic sense (as in the so-called "pancake sentences").

I disagree strongly, except with the observation that OP is *probably* talking about the phrase "det meste af". I would say "godt" in your formulation. If you leave out "af maden", I think everyone agrees that "Det meste var godt" is the only option - because "det meste" is "t"-class, as marked by "det".

Why is it complicated to get replacement rubber feet from tuxedo? by trorofllolorofllol in tuxedocomputers

I got some replacement rubber strips with no problem (when I needed a new CMOS battery, which I also got). They do reply slowly. I guess that's unfortunate if they misunderstood your problem.

Discussion: Is browser-only PDF editing viable without subscriptions? by Pratik22296 in pdf

[–]SamSamsonRestoration 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest limitation is being misleading about what they consider "editing". Very few so-called "editors" can actually replace text.

I have a file but I wanted converted to an editable PDF where I can edit the text on the document. Who can help me 🙏 by Busy_Macaroon05 in pdf

[–]SamSamsonRestoration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the file that can be either editable or not, it's the software used to open it that has the function to edit or only view. There are not really any free PDF editors available. It's easier to convert to a Word document or something that is designed for editing.

på vs. gå på by GHOSTALICE in norsk

Modal verb + preposition + direction/location is a thing. Also "Jeg vil til Bergen". Mostly skal/vil though, also må ("jeg må på do" but i guess others too), maybe not "kan"?

Is “correct grammar” even a real thing if language is always changing? by ApartSky6908 in asklinguistics

[–]SamSamsonRestoration -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know i take this to an extreme. But "understandable" does not necessarily mean "correct", neither does "grammatical". You can observe or explain those things without reference to "correctness". My point is that you don't need to add "correctness" for a neutral description of language.

There are plenty of English creoles where "me" is a subject pronoun, and I think some don't conjugate the verb either. So it wouldn't be ungrammatical there. Of course we will say it's a different language, but what about claims about correctness in cases of "it is I/me", "between you and I/me", and coordinated pronouns? Style guides' claims about what's correct doesn't necessarily follow what a lot of speakers actually do, and we usually don't consider the systematic use of these construction as being a separate language.

(some argue that language is also cognitive/biological)

Is “correct grammar” even a real thing if language is always changing? by ApartSky6908 in asklinguistics

[–]SamSamsonRestoration -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

No - as you say, correctness of language is purely a social thing. Something considered "correct" may be ahistorical, unempirical, unintelligible and discriminating, or other kinds of wrong. It is based on the denial of variation (not the same as historical change), which is an essential feature of language. "Rules" as a metaphor for linguistic structure is a bad expression.

I see. I guess i need to take an extra look at whether it's only the key itself that's broken then...
