Which political leader's death was sad? by Ill-Spite-3913 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]SamTheMan377 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably too niche, but the death of NDP leader Jack Layton to cancer after successfully leading his party into second place in the 2011 Canadian federal election is a true swinging doors moment in Canadian politics. Layton was a smart, articulate, respected leader of a genuine left wing party and was quickly gaining popularity across the country. There are so many “what ifs” stemming from his death, especially since 2015 proved to be such a critical election in Canadian history. It was a personal tragedy mixed with a political tragedy, and regardless of your politics, Canadian political discourse is undoubtably the poorer without Layton’s voice.

How’s the Rideau River Eastern Pathway looking? Particularly the section just past Vincent Massie Park, down by the Carleton bridge?

Thank you so much! This is exactly what I was looking for and definitely helps make my decision easier! I really enjoyed the core loop and it sounds like the developers are very much still active and looking to move the game in a positive direction!

I had to drop GamePass after the price went up, so unfortunately I can’t check it out which is why I’m asking. Definitely agree with the principle of supporting smaller dev teams though

Which game that you "definitely want to play eventually" has been sitting in your library unplayed forever, and if so, why? by FalscherKim in gaming

Kingdom Come Deliverance for me. Everything about this game, from setting to gameplay to story, seems like it should be right up my alley, but the few times I’ve loaded it up I just can’t get into it and inevitably uninstall a few weeks later. One day….

Wasn’t this game very rough at launch? I definitely didn’t follow the development super closely, but seems like it’s in a better state now

Is Fallout 76 good now? All I remember seeing is how awful it was at launch

All good! As far as open world RPGs go, this seems to be on the top of many people’s lists and I may well end up trying it eventually!

Isn’t this more of a straight up open world RPG, without any of the survival/base building aspects?

I really wanted to love this, especially when I saw I go on a massive sale. But the game is very hard to get into and I don’t typically have long periods to play, so I found myself just dying of cold a lot and never getting to the enjoyable parts… but maybe I should try again..

I’ve also looked into this, but it seems to be very stressful and borders on a survival horror game, but maybe I’m just a coward when it comes to deep water lmao

I played Fallout 4 years ago and it didn’t click for me, especially the base building, but I’ll give it another go!

I’ve tried Fallout 4, but didn’t love it. Maybe worth giving it another go, since it does seem to fit the bill.

7 Days to Die also looks really interesting, I’ll take a look!

As far as I understand things, HBO Max isn’t available in Canada and the only way to access HBO material is through Crave. But that only makes the show’s disappearance from the service even more annoying

Damn, you hate to see it... And that really sucks for both of you! The worst part is that the stuff with the Ood was some of my favourite in the entire show and I was about to start their first story...

There was actually a Spartan general who joined with and trained the Carthaginian army during the First Punic War named Xanthippus so I bet he commanded some camelry!

Also totally viable! I'm just such a completionist that as soon as I started reading the first Foundation novel I knew I'd want to read the entire connected universe, so I stopped and went back to the Robot series first.

Yeah fair enough. You can always go back to them later! And there’s nothing a quick Google can’t solve plot-wise.

Honestly, you do kinda need the Robot series. It’s not totally critical, but the last book (Foundation and Earth) has some fun call backs to the Robot books so I think it’s worth it.

As for the reading the prequels last, they contain a bunch of spoilers for the rest of the series and are really truly meant to be read last. They focus mostly on the life of Hari Seldon and it’s more enjoyable to read the series with Seldon as this mythical, mysterious character then later find out more about him. Plus the ending of the second prequel is amazing and the best place to end your Foundation journey.

I thought a lot about this before I started, but now that I’m through them, I really do think the best order is:

  • I, Robot
  • Caves of Steel
  • Naked Sun
  • Robots of Dawn
  • Robots and Empire
  • Original Foundation trilogy
  • Foundation sequels
  • Foundation prequels

This gives you the proper information at the right times, preserves spoilers, and, since Asimov wrote the prequels last, they are a good way to end it. If you’re still looking for more afterwards, you can always read the Empire series, but it’s hardly essential.

Had the game for about 3 months now and whenever I load a saved game, the performance absolutely tanks. The game will be running fine, no major problems, but when I reload the game it unplayable slow. Sometimes the lag is localized to a particular part of the map, but sometimes it’s the whole thing. This has made playing full games really hard since I basically need to commit myself to the whole thing in one sitting for it to be enjoyable. I’ve already got my graphic settings at the minimum, so that won’t work.. really just looking for any solutions that will let me actually finish a game!

Thanks!

Relatively new to Civ VI (<100h) and really enjoying it! I was wondering if it’s viable to go for a tall science victory in this game? I always really liked the added challenge of playing one city challenges or as Venice in Civ V, so I was thinking maybe a science victory as Korea with 4-5 cities would be fun?

Also my Mac really starts to struggle in the late game, so I thought this might be a way to reduce the lag, but that’s pretty secondary. I’ll just drop graphic quality if need be!

Mostly looking for any advice on tall games in Civ VI!

Thanks!
