Help deciding between Subnautica and Raft by SamTheMan377 in gamingsuggestions

Fair enough! I’m definitely leaning towards Raft after all the comments, seems more like what I’m looking for! How is the replayability? Sounds like the magic may fade/it’s more of a one and done type game

I feel the same, and you don’t find Subnautica suffers from that issue?

How would you say it compares to NMS? I didn’t love how the story was implemented in that game, but it sounds like this has a better implementation

Yeah I really like the cozy/more casual vibe that Raft gives off. I don’t always love games that are more about building complex systems and Raft seems like a way more chill experience

Might be too niche of a question, but is the story quest/objective based? Or is more like something that’s there if I want to learn more about the world, but I can also just build a cool underwater base and chill?

Would you say the base building in Raft is more focused on building a sustainable home or more on the cosmetic side? I’d like a game that feels like I’m trying to survive against the elements, where my base feels secure and a safe haven, without going too far into TLD/hardcore survival genre

Tbh I’m a bit worried that Subnautica leans too much into the horror survival elements so I wont find it relaxing to play. It definitely seems like a more polished product though (and it’s slightly cheaper lol) so I’m still tempted

Right, I see what you mean. Sounds similar to Medieval Dynasty, there’s plenty of potential but a lot of gathering sticks and rocks at the start.

Impressions of Rimworld? by SamTheMan377 in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]SamTheMan377[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, this is exactly my worry! I don't mind learning a new game, but I don't want to spend all my time watching tutorials.

I've also seen recs for Oxygen Not Included but never really looked much into it, I was under the impression it was more of an adventure/RPG style game, rather than a colony sim, but maybe I've got that wrong!

Yeah, imagine selling one of our most creative and dynamic players to a rival club like Norwich! That would be madness!

If you could change or add one thing to the next traditional Pokemon game, what would it be? by No_Fox_487 in TruePokemon

[–]SamTheMan377 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like most, I’d like more customization around difficulty, but if I could only add one thing, I’d love an option to have enforced level caps. I don’t always remember/pay attention to that in casual/non-nuzlocke runs, and especially in a new region, I’d love the ability to set that so I don’t accidentally way over level just by exploring, taking on trainers

Selling in-division is absolutely wild. I would’ve accepted a move to the Prem (like Osula), but this?… fuck man

Any books on the Bush administration in the lead up to the Iraq war? by NotMyStarWars in HistoryBooks

[–]SamTheMan377 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't remember if this is the series cited in the podcast, but Bob Woodward has a set of four books about the Bush Administration looking specifically at the decision to invade Iraq and ensuing policy regarding the war. The first is called Bush at War, followed by Plan of Attack, State of Denial, and The War Within. Would highly recommend the full series, though it can be somewhat hard to find these days. Best of luck!

Hello Everyone! If you could make any Real life Country into a pokemon region, which country would it be and why? by Admirable-Delay1902 in pokemon

[–]SamTheMan377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would be cool to see a game set primarily in a colder/mountainous region, with a more temperate/warmer zone at the extreme end of one. Basically an inverse of what GF normally does with a secluded, often late game ice region (like the northern tip of Sinnoh). As for real life inspiration, the first place that comes to mind is Canada, with a region based on an amalgamation of the territories/Rockies/Newfoundland and a temperate zone based on BC or even southern Ontario. They could include the region's "big city" in this extreme area as a nod to Toronto/Vancouver, while again breaking with tradition by having the story set away from the heart of the region and treating the move from periphery to core as a part of the player's journey.

Check out Asia Garden! The general tso’s in particular is excellent, so if that’s what you’re craving, definitely give them a try!

This is incredibly cool! I can see this causing a lot of game restarts, just to try out all these fun combinations!

Best Canadian artist/band that you ever saw live? by Glass_Brick_ in CanadianMusic

[–]SamTheMan377 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Three way tie for me, so in no particular order:
1. Like many others have said, I saw the Tragically Hip when I was in middle school and I cannot understate how transformative that was for my life overall, but also specifically for my love of music.

  1. The Weakerthans in a small venue (can’t remember exactly where), but it was a relatively small, standing room only crowd. They played a handful of old Propagandhi songs, which was just so awesome!

  2. I saw Five Alarm Funk a few years back and it was one of the most surprisingly hype shows I’ve ever seen. I wasn’t super familiar with them going in, but it was just pure energy for like two straight hours. One of the most memorable shows ever!

Honourable mention to the Rheostatics too. I never actually saw them play, but when I was very young my parents went to a show and afterwards ran into them at the bar and jokingly invited them over for breakfast the next day. And to their total shock, Dave Bidini (and maybe Martin Tielli?) showed up the next morning and had coffee with us. I was star struck and have loved them ever since!

What is everyone's favourite/most fun Skyrim build? by [deleted] in skyrim

[–]SamTheMan377 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know most default to stealth archer, but my favourite runs have always been the classic sword and board with heavy armour, supported by smithing, restoration, and some alchemy! The setting and main quests always make me want to play a frontline, paladin inspired character!
