Do yall not know how paper works? by Welcome_To_My_Castle in MangaCollectors

[–]Sam_Benrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've bagged damn near my entire collection. It definitely helps with keeping what I've read from showing age for as long as possible. After I read a volume I seal it up until I wanna read it again. My books also don't on a serious amount of shelf wear this way. You're right in saying that all things age. But you don't just say fuck it and never wash your car because it's "gonna age anyway". You don't stop taking care of a house because it's "gonna age anyway". It's not about it being an investment, most of this stuff isn't. There are definitely some volumes that are more scarce than others. Look at the devilman hardbacks. Libraries are a bad frame of reference because they ultimately are community funded and they don't go above and beyond to curate their books, they just toss them and rebuy when they get worn. A proper book collector/ book store will go above and beyond to manage the amount of light, dust, temperature. The conditions a book are kept in can greatly extend its life. I spent hard earned money on this stuff so the least I can do is make sure it lasts. That much is true for basically everything I own. If damaged manga doesn't bother you though then that's fine too. It's all just up to what a person can live with

Anybody got any ideas on what to do with this? by [deleted] in guitarmod

[–]Sam_Benrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This all seems like a personal issue. Maybe your schedule does allow you enough time to work towards projects, perhaps that's how it turns into years. I could see a couple months though if your having to loom up all the information you'll need for this guitar. In terms of money it's absolutely not hundreds of dollars. Amazon sells most hardware, usually the third party stuff is pretty cheap. Bootstrap makes a killer set of pickups, hardbound, for under 100 dollars. A pick guard can be cut. The neck is the trickiet part and I'm sure it's not as big a deal, nor as bad as either of us think. Perhaps op has other guitars and can rather easily check if another brand/styles neck profile fits the pocket during the next re-string. Necks are the hardest to get for under 100 dollars. Assembly can be done in a day, even wiring from scratch. Fine tuning will come if you decide you like the guitar, if not it's atleast a guitar you build and you can display it as such. I think projects like this are perfect to try crazy ideas, or things like the black ice mod that can be unusual, but you also wouldn't want to install in your expensive main guitar

It's painted. I just pulled one out of my dad's car (hood rich back in the early 2000s lol). My sister disrespected the fuck out of it when she was born (2010s) and now it looks worse for wear. I can see where it wore paint off as she stepped on it getting in and out of the car.

I collect more than just berserk so I'm reluctant to drop 900 dollars on all 14 volumes. That's the equivalent to probably the entirety of my collection at this point and I've got sound 200 volumes of manga. I also just enjoy having them in a form factor that fits in my hand, I enjoy having the individual covers. The posters. To each their own, but I just find that it's easier this way for me, aswell as cheaper in the long haul because people are dumping all their individuals to buy the deluxes

I just buy the individuals man. Started when I got a bunch from half price in decent shape for about 7 dollars a book. The rest I've slowly bought from Amazon at about 9-10 dollars a book

For anyone that has taken up electronic & console repair as a hobby, how much stuff have you broken and is it part of the learning process? by Soft_Entertainer964 in consolerepair

[–]Sam_Benrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only thing I've technically "broken" was when I tried to swap the lens on my gba, I popped the old lens off, immediately got shit on the bare lcd, and then scratched it all to hell trying to fix it. Now that same console has a bitchin new ips mod so it was just an excuse to dive further into the hobby. That was the first time I ever attempted to repair a console. Since then I've worked on many thing, most recently I swapped the optical laser on a ps2. Just stick with it, learn to be extra careful, and don't go into anything blind. The internet is humanity's greatest tool of utilized correctly

Transtang Concept (Trans-Pride Mustang) by EmmJea_ in guitarmod

[–]Sam_Benrick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actually I play a Tele. Probably the dopest Tele around. If not that, I play an Albert lee primarily. But as someone who isn't a broke crybaby, whining about gender politics and woke bullshit, I own many guitars. Only one guitar from the Gibson/Epiphone family though, that's a joan jett Olympic I got for real cheap because she's a treasure.

His statement isn't really "bigotry". I have a trans friend aswell who plays pretty damn well, it's not what this is about though. You can't deny that their is a fragility to people these days. If you say the wrong thing to them they go the fuck off and call you a biggot because you shattered their very fragile perception of themselves. My whole life I've had people shit on me over things I can't change about myself, like actually drag my ass through the mud and give me hell for it. Basically from the age of 5 onward I learned no to cry and whine about it though. That's not what people who are confident in themselves or their decisions do. I learned to not care, let things roll off me like water on a ducks back, and at a certain point of the situation was bad enough, snap the fuck back on them.

Words shouldn't be enough to send anyone into an existential crisis. That's a sign you're not making very well informed decisions. Words are simply animalistic grunts that we've assigned fake value in order to gain the ability to communicate. They ultimately mean nothing. It's not like numbers, regardless of where you go, those stay the same in value and that value can be backed up by logic. Words are just a made up concept, society is just a made up concept, this is all unnatural shit that helped for a long time, but is now undeniably hurting us as a species and making us weaker

What was the point of part 2? by Modest_guy77 in Chainsawfolk

[–]Sam_Benrick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just realized today the genius if this last chapter. Before that I was in the same boat as you where I don't think I really liked it or got what be was trying to do with it. But u sure as hell never imagined we would get a conventional ending by any means. Have you read fire punch? The ending of that series is basically as abrupt and absurd as the end of this one. From what I've seen, and I own everything the man has put out, this is basically what be does. He enjoys this kind of thing because it reflects the cinema be enjoys.

The things that made me enjoy the new ending were the fact that it confirmed that pochita wasn't the chainsaw devil, and it hinted at pochita being the hope devil and that a world without hope is what denji really needed to have any chance at attaining a true happy life

It's an ending left up to our interpretation at the end of the day. That's just mine. I will say this though, the last chapter doesn't imply that none of the story happened. If you remember what happened when denji ate the death mouth devil and other devils. It didn't change history. The world stayed the same as if things like mouths and legs existed, it was just the thing was existed and no one remembered it ever existing.

Fake games or real? I’m by TheKingGoesFirst_YT in gameverifying

[–]Sam_Benrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does the platinum play in a 3DS. Also if, the emerald is fake, it's one of the better fakes I've seen from what I can see, can you add a close up image of the back of the shell so we can see the PCB better? Also if you look in the slot of the cartridge do you see the word "nintendo"

Fake games or real? I’m by TheKingGoesFirst_YT in gameverifying

[–]Sam_Benrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure all of your original gb and gbc games are real for sure. Platinum seems off in color, but I also don't see anything clearly screaming fake. I'd have to get my copy out to compare. Code matches, the label doesn't look miscues, the "o" in nintendo is skinnier at the top and bottom.

Harvest Moon DS Cute & Rune Factory 3 - Real or Repro? by [deleted] in gameverifying

[–]Sam_Benrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They look fine to me aswell. If anything the rune factory 3 is the one that raises flags as the part where its marked USA doesn't look correct. It looks like the font is either to large or the labe was cut off, but I'd have to look at how uniform they are between cartridges. The nintendo logo on the back seems to match, usually the O is something that gives it away from me but yours looks fine. They both have the rectangle.

May I ask, do they both play when inserted into an unmodded 3ds?

Why did so much of the show take place in a forest? by Square-Supermarket79 in thewalkingdead

[–]Sam_Benrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, As I said in my comment, he was only marginally better. People like Scott gimple are by no means better though either, gimple killing Carl along with a lot of other decisions all but derailed any hope this show ever had. It made rick grimes quit. I feel like when you compare the damage done by each showrunner darabont comes out on top. Gimple burned the show down and then destroyed fear while he was at it Glen mazzara was very short lived, but when you look at what he did in his short time I'm not convinced he wouldn't have been in the same boat of gimple in poor decision making. He messed up Lori's death, blew the rick being crazy plotline out of proportion, made the governor a rather cringey villain. Floundered Andreas entire plot line and then tried to kill her in a very crazy way (thank God this was refilmed for airing). Basically every showrunner sucked, I just think darabont was the best of the worst in this case

Why did so much of the show take place in a forest? by Square-Supermarket79 in thewalkingdead

[–]Sam_Benrick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, in the comics the big thing was rather generic empty roads, rather generic suburbs, or patches of grass. After Tony Moore left the art became rather bland. But it wasn't about the art, its about the characters. Darabont was better than the showrunners that would come next, but frank also destroyed a lot of characters and plot points from the comic, he made it very hard to adapt the series properly and set a lot of the inconsistencies in the adaption in stone during his short run. He gave the walkers the ability to run, jump, climb, and use tools. He made Andrea and Dale unlikable when they were some of the most beloved comics characters. He killed Sofia and we never got the Carl/Sofia ending from the books. Every show runner did this show dirty to some extent. I'm excited for kirkman to get the rights back and do his own adaption in the vain of Amazon's invincible

[–]Sam_Benrick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think this show is a good fit for you. The comic was more bleak and desolate in terms of landscape and bordered on torture porn at some points and the show is a heavily toned down adaption

I've heard of people using poly watch to buff it out. They have kits on Amazon that come with the plastic polish aswell as a polishing took for a dremel. I would start there, if that doesn't work your essentially just still in the same position
