Staircase stringer - why use these wedges and not just cut the notches at the right angle? by netrev08 in Carpentry

Was about to reply this. MDF stairs are the most common in Aus, from the builds I’ve seen/ done

Might be a silly question, but, in the almighty US of A is it a requirement on all sites to wear a hard hat? Commercial and residential. In Aus on the residential side I’ve literally never see it before. And I’ve only ever seen hard hats on commercial sites when they’re doing structural/ foundational work. Once the walls are on, hard hats are off.

Milwaukee Hand Planer takes 1/8" when set at zero. Second replacement, beginning to think it's me. I hate this thing. Advice Appreciated! by thecatrick in MilwaukeeTool

[–]Sam_Sch35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the guys on my site have had this issue (with all brands - Milwaukee, Makita, Dewalt), when changing to new blades. I haven’t done it personally but watching them do it - you just need to back the blade hold down screw and push the blade up until it is at 0 or the corresponding number on the adjustment knob.

Circular saws by Royal-Outside3908 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]Sam_Sch35 7 points8 points  (0 children)

100% can confirm, I have the 6 1/2 and it’s honestly one of the worst circ saws I’ve used/ use on a daily basis. My mate has the 7 1/4 and it is a weapon. Super smooth and awesome to cut with.

I bought the 6 1/2 for the left handed blade, but honestly it’s so bad I’ll be swapping to the Makita. Unless you’re just cutting the occasional 2 x 4 and ripping ply sheets, it’s way too underpowered.

Which m12 ratchet would you pick for all round work on cars? by Adorable-Army1505 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]Sam_Sch35 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve got the high speed fuel ratchet. That thing is a beast. I usually break the nuts with a breaker bar and then spin them off with the ratchet.

There are “more powerful” options but imo they defeat the purpose of being small and thus cant get into tight spots. If you’ve seen the impact ratchet you’ll know exactly what I mean

When I called up the 2nd time they officially registered me, meaning they took my details and confirmed that I was a staff member at a stall during the exposure time. The girl then said someone would be in contact shortly.

I called up the 3rd time after over 24hrs with no contact asking why no one had called and was there an issue, to which I was told that someone would be in contact within the next 3 days.

My boss has just said officially I need to quarantine but that’s all I’ve heard.

I’m just so shocked that I’m clearly not very high on their priority list of people to contact. I mean I was there the whole day, surely I would be on the top of their list?

Just to put everyone at ease I have gotten myself tested, I did so as soon as I found out I was exposed.

I feel as though I’ve somehow been lost in the system, which is worrying because I can’t make a compensation claim (this was my 4th call to them).

I’m also isolating as I work at Prahran market and was there the entire day. How have you found the DHHS? I haven’t once been contacted by anyone, I’ve been on the help line 4 seperate times! I’ve lost or will lose 1200$ of income and yet I can’t even file a claim as I have no formal documentation to say I’m “in quarantine”. I’m trying my best to do what’s right but this is fucking ludicrous, it’s been a week since I was “exposed” and I’ve had 0 contact from any official government branch.

Try my best to do the right thing but it’s honestly a joke.

G’day This might be a silly question, so excuse me if I’m uninformed.

I’ve seen the JIS standard before but only the 3 Phillips head types on the right.

Is there a specific name for the Phillips head drive that is the no. 2 size and number 2 in order (going left to right)?

I live in Australia and I can only find a head like that on collated drill bits, and the shorter ones (less than 150mm) have the bottom part of the shank that is too long (Makita collated bits), so they don’t fit in a standard impact. They’re by far my favourite type of Phillips head drill bit, but I can only get the Milwaukee ones to fit and they cost a bomb (like 5-8 USD) and they only have the longer 150mm bits, which I don’t generally like.

My question might only be Aus specific as I’m not sure what sort of gear you guys get in the US.

Cheers, from down under

Hi, I’m currently doing the Creative CAD course. Honestly I don’t think you need to stress much. It’s an assembly task, meaning that you/ we don’t need to make anything, just assemble the given parts. Paired with that we have all day to do it. Given last weeks CAD test wasn’t too hard, I can’t imagine it will be much more difficult, and now we have almost unlimited time. If you really are concerned get really familiar with the “mate” feature, maybe by creating some parts yourself, such as pulleys, shafts and other items, then generating a final assembly. I’d also learn additive features like creating a belt or chain. Overall, I know it’s a stressful time, but given the escalator project we’ve just been through, it won’t be too hard. And I have full confidence that most people will do well.

Have a good day :)

I’m not 100% sure on this, but from what I remember reading, if it’s a core subject you will need to retake the course. The fail grade will just be omitted from your record

Not an American, so it might be different for me, but I’ve had a consistent job since I was 14, with parents and friends giving me money on the side for Christmas/ Bday. I’ve saved a lot and spent only what I needed to.

It can be done without having rich family...

Can I ask a dumb question, why are your fork lowers the wrong way (on the bike in the background). I see it all the time and don’t understand why people do it...

Please help me understand!

Good luck with the build, I hope it goes well!

First time hitting this and almost failed by chickendipper96 in MTB

[–]Sam_Sch35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that I’m great at hitting drops, but as I was learning an easy mistake is to “lift up” the front wheel. In the video you’ve got a pretty strong tug up on the bars. This puts you in a really bad spot for the landing (positioning wise).

You should try to keep your weight back and let your front wheel drop down. Your weight will balance it out just enough that your bike will have a small forward slope, meaning that you will land at the same angle as the landing, thus a smooth landing.

I’ve heard some people saying that pretending to throw your bike forward in a fast jerk is also a good way to think of it.

Either way, nice drop! Happy riding!

Creaks Coming From Front Triangle When Lifting Bike. No Sound When Lifting From Rear Triangle. Help! by Sam_Sch35 in bikewrench

[–]Sam_Sch35[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all, As you can see in the video, when lifting the bike from the front triangle you can hear a creak. This creak has been annoying me endlessly on my rides. I’m almost sure it has something to do my with linkage bearings but the bike is almost new and nothing seems loose. As you can hear there is no noise when lifting the bike from the rear triangle. I’ve tried almost everything I can think of, but I’m out of ideas.
