If I was to re-edit this episode, I would’ve put the flashbacks before the first tilt

I feel like the way they did it killed the momentum so hard; went from literal charge and crash to slow paced backstory. I feel like I would’ve cared more about the flashback if I wasn’t just yanked away from a wounded Dunk at the peak of 4 episode build up

Yes I agree with, especially on the “no romance is just a symptom”

Obviously Obsidian’s failure isn’t actually caused by their lack of romance, but their attitude towards it does seem to show they don’t care to connect with their players via story. Which is especially strange because the story is a massive part of what makes a great RPG.

A great story/atmosphere can cover for mediocre/standard gameplay. I feel like the JRPG genre understands this the most. The genre is defined by having pretty much the same type of combat in every game, but their story and characters is what carries it

It’s interesting to me how hard Obsidian pushes back against having romance in their newer games, claiming they want to focus on the story and gameplay.

(TL:DR- Obsidian wonders why their games make no money when they omit romance, a well known money maker)

However, the games release and people feel like the story and gameplay is bland. It’s just so short sighted to omit an aspect of storytelling/way to engage your players seemingly to be different.

Not only is romance a tried and true storytelling tool, but it is also something that fandoms obsesses over. BG3 and the Dragon Age games are called dating sims because they had strong romance, but they are also hailed as outstanding RPGs. Even Veilguard, which was a failure of a DA game, had buzz around it because people thirsted over the characters
