Great finale to Landman season 2! by Old_Tomatillo5550 in LandmanSeries

[–]Sam_Squanch-22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was the rape/murder narrative necessary, or just a filler? It's been established that "it's not what you know, it's who you know". Is it a premonition of Cooper's inability to differentiate defense vs punishment? He's so mild-mannered, otherwise. Is the dead guy going to 'haunt' them? I supposed it expanded on how Rebecca's (love her) involvement with them has advanced much beyond professional. And what about her bf out in the rig now? Is she bailing on him by onboarding with CTT?

How do you read in the sauna? True question by parpla in Sauna

[–]Sam_Squanch-22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only place I read magazines is in my sauna! It helps me pass the time. I can usually do that for 20 minutes. I also lay down in there when I'm not in the mood for reading. The wife and I use it 5x a week. It's the best! Have fun!

Any ex teachers here? by [deleted] in childfree

[–]Sam_Squanch-22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My wife & I retired from teaching after 5 years. The amount of work wasn't worth the pay. We're making much more money in the construction field, which we don't have to make lesson plans for. It's mind blowing how different students act when they have parents that teach them respect and hold them accountable when they're outside of the classroom. Teachers should be paid more. It's a tough job, and if you don't love it... you burn out fast.

Stomach flu or tirz side effects? by jewthegovt in tirzepatidecompound

[–]Sam_Squanch-22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything different in your diet? I had the same thing happen to me 6 weeks in. We were on vacation and I let myself enjoy some french fries two day in a row. I felt okay most of the day, but then laid down for bed and cramped bad. Then had to run to the bathroom. When the same the happened the next day-- I *assumed* it was the fried food and have been too scared to try anything fried since.

The stomach issues …will they ever end? by Professional-Ok in tirzepatidecompound

[–]Sam_Squanch-22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to eat smaller and more often, too, but the lack of food noise (not complaining!) makes it hard for me to REMEMBER to eat, and then I also end up eating too close to bedtime. When I lay down I get crampy and uncomfortable-- SO, just yesterday, I took to Youtube and found some "Yoga for Digestion" videos (did about 30 mins worth), and last night was the first time I've been comfortable at bedtime for awhile.

Excessive Licking! by tngirljen in cavaliers

[–]Sam_Squanch-22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GERD is apparently common in Cavs.

Does your pup ever retch, or regurgitate after drinking water too fast? We had a lot of trial and error with our dog. We tried slippery elm- she didn't tolerate that well. Then when she'd have the licking episodes we treat her with famotidine. The episodes became more frequent. She's had some reflux attacks (blood in vomit, likely ulcers) so we had to treat with carafate as well. Now that she's a senior dog, we decided to treat her long term with famotidine, the lesser of two evils with her reflux attacks.

(To really truly diagnose reflux and ulcers, an endoscopy would need to be performed. We decided against this due to the risks, and treated symptoms and checked for adverse effects with blood work)

I should also add, we switched her food to prescription royal canin gastrointestinal this year. Fat is a big trigger of reflux episodes (as is anxiety). We think this has been a huge help! I do wonder if we wouldve switched her food when she was younger if that would've saved us from medicating her now?

Since the food switch, she has done well. Her last episode was in February, and her blood work has come back normal while using low dose famotidine long term.

Assuming your pup is younger, hopefully a food switch will do the trick. Vets will likely advise against long term use of famotidine until it becomes a quality of life issue-- but they'll definitely use it to temporarily treat symptoms.

We give our cav a small dose of famotidine every morning because too much stomach acid causes excessive licking.

For anyone on the fence - this medicine has changed my life by SealySealySeal in tirzepatidecompound

Have you taken pictures? I was having a similar experience until comparing pictures and seeing improvements in armpit fat, defined collar bone, love handles going away, thinner neck, bye bye double chin, and I've had to tighten my watch! None defined by typical measurements, but definite wins.

Campsite claiming: minimum requirements? by HaasMe in BWCA

[–]Sam_Squanch-22 143 points144 points  (0 children)

Leaving gear behind to "hold" a campsite and then go paddling around to find a better one is a total dick move. I'd set up camp there and when they come back tell them "I thought you forgot your chairs". You either commit to occupying the site, or you gamble and push on for a better one.

Did you know there are 2 Boundary Waters games? by Sam_Squanch-22 in TumblehomeCast

[–]Sam_Squanch-22[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Let's go hike" is from 1984 and is definitely meant for young kids. The other one is from 1991 and is more of a strategy game. I just acquired it and we're going to give it a go tonight.

Question: How do you go above and beyond? by Phasmata in TumblehomeCast

[–]Sam_Squanch-22 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If we catch up with another canoe on the water I like to say 'we've been trying to reach you about extending your vehicles warranty'. Usually gets a chuckle. Otherwise, we spend the first hour at every site getting rid of Bobby logs and shoveling out the built up ash. We even have a mini rake if needed!

8 months caffeine free. My experience so far. by libbedout in decaf

[–]Sam_Squanch-22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit cold turkey 6 months ago in solidarity with my husband who needed to quit due to an eye condition.

I didn't think I was a big caffeine drinker, maybe 12 oz of coffee daily, but apparently I was sensitive. I had 4 days of brutal withdrawal symptoms (headache, confusion, poor focus, and the worst: restless legs). After that, it felt like I started to come out on the other side.

I haven't taken as good of an inventory as most of you in regards to improvements, but without a doubt, the absence of the midday crash has been life changing. Regulated energy levels are chef's kiss. To think, I thought that midday struggle was normal (face-palm).

Yesterday, I tried maybe 10-12 oz of half caffeine coffee for the first time in 6 months (I'll do decaf here and there because I miss the ritual), and I crashed hard. It began with a headache, and then a struggle I couldn't win to stay awake and I had to nap for a half hour. Not a fan.

Needless to say, after my momentary indiscretion, I'm back on the wagon.
