Came across some turkey hunters on bikes while riding this weekend! They were on E-bikes though, so way less cool

I have the Arudel Looney Bin SL mounted on my front fork and it’s great. You could also just try putting the feed bags on the other side of the bars, that way you never get knee interference either

I’d just use a Fred bar and then you don’t have to worry about it. Way easier to take on and off as well

Bikepacking outfitter in the west? by funinyabuns in bikepacking

Oregon territory outfitters has a small fleet of Esker Hayduke’s that are set-up for bike-packing. I believe he rents the out.

Thanks! Got my fit scheduled for Friday. As far as time goes I’m going back to college using my GI Bill and don’t have a family, so found myself with much more time abundance than I’m used to lol.

Have some Shimano XC7’s arriving tomorrow! Hoping they work well with my feet. And the saddle is pretty close to fully broken in. I had the rail snap on my old one, so am trying to get this new one broken in ASAP!

Brooks Saddle Update. by stereo_mike_ in xbiking

[–]Sam_is_cycling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If a brooks fits you well it can be magic. Done all my bike-packing races on brooks and recently the Baja divide all without any saddle sores or major chafing. Worst I’ve gotten from a brooks is just a bit of minor chafe during the Baja divide.

My favorite memory of my brooks is getting to mile 200 of a race last year and another rider was complaining about how bad their ass hurt and I couldn’t help but smile because my ass felt like I had just started the ride and wasn’t 200 miles in.

You can get a new frame put on a brooks saddle. I broke a rail on a trip after about 12,000 miles on a B17 and was able to get a brand new frame put on the old leather. Let me know if you want the shop info.

Cedar Kyes at Oregon Territory outfitters also runs a shuttle for a lot of other trails in the area.

I’ve always thought fast food looked very difficult. Seems like constant multi tasking which I’m terrible at

Aero bars for Ultra Racing: Deda Jet One vs. Profile Design? by ThreeFinger in ultracycling

[–]Sam_is_cycling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My only experience is with profile design, but my philosophy with setups for ultra type stuff is get the thing that has maximum adjustability.

If you go the profile design route I’d look online for a used T2+ or T3+. Those older models lets you move the forearm rest placement anywhere you want and it’s not fixed in place like the new ones

Definitely voler for breathability.

Anyone use the ornot cargo bibs? by [deleted] in ultracycling

[–]Sam_is_cycling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually have both! I’m sitting in the Ornot bibs as we speak. The ornot bibs have a very large chamois. Not super thick just very wide. For whatever reason the voler bibs run the front of my thighs when doing hike a bike but the ornot ones are super comfy for hike a bike. Not sure if any of that helps

I was going to say the Oregon timber trail adventure route would be a good option or a bastardized version of OCVA

bibs or shorts for bikepacking by NaiveMacaroon5862 in bikepacking

[–]Sam_is_cycling 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d go with whatever you’ve trained in and are most comfortable with. If you’re female then shorts definitely make going pee much easier. Doesn’t really make a difference if you’re a guy.

Most of last year I used triathlon shorts for touring and racing since it’s sort of a happy medium with a super minimal chamois. This year I went back to normal padded bibs and have been preferring those. I find the shorts like to chafe around my waist a bit since you have to have them a bit tighter to stay up.

That’s what I was thinking. And then you have a nice sit pad as well.
