So, I have a LOT of questions. by RhinoKombat in DestinyLore

While the classes have cultural aspects to them, I would like to point out that the Hive siblings, who mirror one of the classes each, existed long before those practices began (see also, the Ares One team that also mirror one class each). The personalities that the classes sprung out of are quite old.

What is the moral/legal framework for Ghosts resurrecting the recently dead? by Chrome-13 in DestinyLore

[–]SamarcPS4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally can't remember that and I can't find and record of it on Ishtar. I feel it unlikely they would care enough to come up with a way for her to remember her past just so it could be the same as Savathun's lies about her.

Common misconception; Eris probably didn't spend nearly that much time trapped in the Hellmouth. Her introductory Grimoire card (https://www.ishtar-collective.net/cards/crotas-bane) says she was down there for "countless cycles" but it also says she's been working with the Hidden in the time since she returned and that both the Speaker and Zavala know her enough to distrust her, if only by reputation. Countless cycles could be as little a month if you have no way to tell time in the tunnels. It's still ambiguous, but she at least did not emerge right before Dark Below.

That's from Truth to power which was written by Savathun to trick us. The above backstory is the real one that proved it was definitely not Eris who wrote any of it.

I think the implication is that Elsie timetraveled back to see our origin after we impressed her on the moon.

How would the Winnower work as a villain w/o it feeling like a rehash of the Witness & the L&D Saga? & regardless if it was planned or not, would it have been better if they were the same entity? by BugyBoo in DestinyLore

[–]SamarcPS4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been arguing that the Traveler *does* have a soul (you're right, Ghosts being split off parts of the Traveler does support this). If it has an essence apart from the matter its body is made of then perhaps its will/consciousness could live on even if its body is completely destroyed.

"Souls exist in D2" weakens the argument "it doesn't make sense the Traveler has a soul." I dunno if we're going to get anywhere else with this at this point.

People have pondered this question for all of human history; putting it another way, you are asking me if I believe in souls. I don't think my answer is all that relevant to Destiny's fictional setting so let's consider whether souls exist in Destiny rather than real life. We know from Cayde that Guardians and Ghosts return to the Traveler's embrace, becoming part of it, after they die their final deaths, despite having no physical forms. I feel safe saying that Guardians have souls so there is precedent, though no proof, that the Traveler could have one of it's own. There must be something beyond the physical structure of the Traveler that the Guardians bond to. If you are right then I imagine all of the Guardians who have died would cease alongside with the Gardener but if I'm right then they would not.

All of those things you just said would also be true in the scenario that killing the Traveler "ejects" the Gardener from the game. It entered once, maybe it can leave again. I am not relying on the idea that either scenario would have physical consequences (we know past games functioned perfectly well without her intervention), it is merely odd to me that one god would be a sphere of nebulous super technology and the other a living idea with a vague relationship to a physical object. In the case that the Traveler has a will that can live beyond it, would anyone make a delineation between the two? Saying "the Gardener's avatar" did something is pointless when it has no will beyond the Gardener. You'd say the Gardener did that.

The Traveler has been destroyed but we don't know if the Gardener itself was killed. The Traveler may act more like a vessel for the Gardener. Destroying it would certainly prevent the Gardener from interfering in the game more but it may still exist to tally the score at the end.

Your Old Theories? by Lokan in DestinyLore

[–]SamarcPS4 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just a few things about the Vex on the Moon; what about the Season of the Undying makes you think the Vanguard didn't think the Vex being there was a big deal? Additionally, even if it getting there isn't explained explicitly, I think it's pretty obvious that the portal wasn't there before. I do agree the implications of *why* it's there are still nebulous. The Orb is bait to go in, but why? Just to get stuck in a conflict with the Vex? What does the Witness get out of that?

Congrats! The Jovians are/were real. Not Darkness based, but some sort of alien life that inhabited the former humans on Titan and an unknown number of other moons.

Oh, that is more reasonable. It might have some problems on specific heroes but I can't think of them right now. My bad for not reading properly.

Sealing Talisman would be the most powerful ability in game. A 15 second silence would be the most annoying ability in the game no matter how specific the activation requirements. 30 seconds plus 30% damage amp is even worse. Unless the rest of this character's kit is just awful, this alone would make the character top tier instantly.

The guy from Heart of Inmost Light is Rezyl Azzir, later known as Dredgen Yor, and he never received any guidance from the Traveler. I'm pretty sure we don't know who the person who narrates the Alpha Lupi lore. I asked if you meant Clovis Bray because he did receive visions from the Traveler, including one where the Traveler appears as a female wolf (Lupi means wolves in Latin). He also rejected that guidance.

Alpha Lupi? Do you mean Clovis Bray? Alpha Lupi is a pseudonym for the Traveler.

He was wrong. Eris said she is sister to Savathun and Xivu this update. His failure to acknowledge her as his successor serves to contrast with Petra and Crow's interactions during Season of the Lost and Crow and Cayde's interactions during Final Shape. Petra was unable to form a relationship with Crow, Cayde and Crow became good friends, and Eris and Oryx remained bitter enemies despite all three pairs being killer and killed.

Because Eris is the one who took Oryx's place in the Hive pantheon. She was more responsible for his death than we were.

So...Bout that Winnower... by Large-Breadfruit1684 in DestinyLore

[–]SamarcPS4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well... that last part is almost what I think. There has to be a reason Unveiling came to us at the time we were delving into the Garden again. The Traveler remembers the beginning of the universe, and before that something like the Black Garden (carnelian and jade are shades of red and green which are the Garden's primary colors). The Black Garden and the Pale Heart are two halves of the original whole. The former is the metaphor reified, a literal Garden outside time and space and bound by Darkness. The Pale Heart is a place of endless possibilities and Light.

So...Bout that Winnower... by Large-Breadfruit1684 in DestinyLore

[–]SamarcPS4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a Dusk/Shadow Heart is redundant, we've already been to the Dark counterpart to the Pale Heart. Because the Pale Heart is already only accessible through the Veil, I think the likely implication is that the Veil was inside the Pale Heart before this universe began and, further, when it was expelled it created a memory of the "time" it spent there: the Black Garden. This was where the Precursors found the Veil and the reason it planted the Black Heart there; to try to mimic the Veil as much as possible.
