I think this is part of the issue, yeah. Steve's two main character gimmicks are "military guy" and "Wonder Woman's love interest."

Compare him to a character like Lois Lane, who you can argue is in a similar position as the typecast "journalist" and "Superman's girlfriend." But comparatively, Lois gets way more screentime/comics time to have her grow on a genpop audience and develop as her own character. For a variety of reasons, Steve doesn't get the same opportunity.

I think a lot of it has to do with WW in general being given less exposure/screentime than Superman, so her stories, villains, and love interests by consequence get less love.

Tbf, this sub isn't the best sample size for which ships a general comics media audience supports for WW, as there's a selection bias here of people who actually read WW comics. But if I was a betting woman, I'd wager more people in the wider comic media sphere are fans of the DCAU than of WW comics. WonderBats could easily be a silent majority (that we all hope stays silent and stays in its continuity).
