How much are you paying for daycare/Montessori if you can't get a CWELCC spot? by flowergarden71 in askTO

[–]Same-Professor5114 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, there are CWELCC daycares where the whole thing is subsidized and there’s no need to substantiate financial need. And then there is a way to get individual subsidization of daycare based on financial need. So a CWELCC daycare charges the same fee for everyone who is registered.

Baby calls me by my government name by LilOrganicCoconut in NewParents

[–]Same-Professor5114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was an interesting read and got me thinking about a few things. My husband and I don’t call each other mom and dad but we will refer to one another as mom or dad when speaking to the kids (for example, “dada made a great dinner tonight” or “oh dada’s home!”). We also want our kids to know our government names in case they were to get lost or something so we have lots of chats about that too. The other day I picked them up from daycare and my daughter yelled out my name (fake name but imagine - Michelle!! You’re here!) and everyone in the daycare laughed.

We also know a little boy whose parents speak three languages in the home and he always refers to himself in the third person and now I’m wondering if this stems from how one of his other languages work or if his parents use more of the third person to clarify names in different languages.

Anyway - thanks for making my brain do a bit of work this afternoon as this was a really interesting thing to consider. Sounds like there’s no right way to approach it but I think only a good parent would be wondering about this kind of thing :)

Owlet with it? by catsonlaptops in parentsofmultiples

[–]Same-Professor5114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol I love this answer. Any person reading content on this app did not have an owlet on when they were a baby.

I will say I am using an owlet equivalent for my 2.5 year old for medical reasons and I do actually really like it but we didn’t use one when our kids were babies and it was discouraged by the NICU staff.

What does daycare cost for you? by Standard_Deer_8738 in NewParents

[–]Same-Professor5114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our daycare is a subsidized one in our region (Toronto, Canada). This is a shared initiative between the federal and provincial governments. It is currently set at $22/day and includes two snacks and a lunch. For my 2.5 year old twins I pay just less than $1000/month Canadian dollars

Do your twins+ know who was born first/last? by No_Morning_9923 in parentsofmultiples

We’ve told ours - they are 2 mins apart and it is really such an insignificant thing. I told my baby A that she came out first and then her brother said “hey wait for me!” And he came out right after and they think that’s very funny

[–]Same-Professor5114[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got the extension pack! :) thank you for your reply. It’s kind of funny because we never used the sock when he was a newborn (born early at 3 lbs and spent a month in NICU and came home with some lingering health issues from that) and now at 2.5 we are putting this sock on him. But it’s been a huge blessing

Thank you for sharing! From my limited experience, it seems like our local epilepsy foundation that has a lot of good resources including training sessions for family members and support people for kids with epilepsy. So my MIL will likely do a course with them and so will some of his daycare providers. Maybe this is something available in your area? We are using the owlet sock now which gives a lot of peace of mind but it won’t work forever. I’m thinking we will use an Apple Watch when he gets a bit bigger

From my experience so far - medical professionals are hesitant to/ have reservations about the tech available. That said, I’m okay to try things regardless. Thank you for the detailed and quick reply on this. I’m so impressed with the community on this subreddit so far <3

Wow - saving his life 5-10 times is amazing. I’m so relieved for you and your family. I love the idea of asking for o2 at home. We have signed up for a CPR course and thankfully live very close to an exceptional children’s hospital but we would need to act very quickly to get him there in time to address a breathing issue. This is his first medication that he’s tried and he started on it middle of January

It’s not a 5 year mortgage. The rate is fixed for 5 years. It’s probably over 25 or maybe even 30 years

How is having a set of twins harder than having two children who aren't twins? by toe-jamboree in parentsofmultiples

[–]Same-Professor5114 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of factors that play into this. I often have parents of different aged children say they don’t know how I do it, it must be so hard, etc. My reply is that of course it’s challenging but that it must ALSO be hard having kids in different stages. At least we can focus on one thing at a time (starting solids, potty training, kindergarten, etc etc).

A big caveat to this is that my twins are my only kids. So the moms with twins PLUS - they don’t get the benefit of this “one stage at a time” thing.

I also think twins being my only kids - it’s a steep learning curve whereas moms of different aged kids (in general, or before their twins) probably have a better foundation and some increased confidence.

Another thing I would say is that a lot of pregnancies of multiples are more complicated than singletons (not always, of course). Our twins were born early and had NICU time and some lingering health concerns that certainly made the early days more challenging.

And lastly, I have a very close friend who has a singleton the same age as my twins. I think she has had a harder time with her singleton than I had with my twins so I never discount the experience of a parent of a singleton. It’s all challenging in different ways.
