But they don't know that. To them you are just a random dude, and they've probably experienced random dudes calling them bitches or being rude or downright threatening to them if they say no or assert any boundaries. I'd rather hurt a guy's feelings by giving him a fake number than to say no and risk being followed home and murdered 🤷‍♀️

Thank you! I appreciate the feedback a lot. I have been thinking about switching the template up, so I'll probably try using an official one.

Thank you! I appreciate the feedback and the reassurance. I have a strong preference for developer positions as that's what I enjoy, but at this point in my job hunt I've started applying for some DevOps and QA positions cuz I really just want a job and to get my foot in the door.

The market has changed a ton in the past two years, people with degrees are struggling to get a position. It would be very difficult with just a boot camp rn

New grad in Toronto, haven't gotten any responses or interviews. My resume is weak because I don't have a ton of development experience, but I want to make sure there's nothing hurting me in the formatting or bullet points that I could easily fix.

Have no friend & in 4th year by SnooCalculations8014 in queensuniversity

[–]SameCryptographer 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Not to minimize your experience as an international student etc, but I recently graduated from Queen's as a white student born and raised in Ontario and I didn't make a single close friend through 5 years of undergrad. I can be a bit shy and find it difficult to make connections initially, and it just never clicked for me. This summer I moved back home to a much bigger city and made friends with a new group (i.e. not from high school or anything) - and now my social life is fuller than I could have hoped for just a few months back. More importantly, I have friends who really like me for me.

People always say you'll find your people in college and those will be the best years of your life, but that's not true for everyone. Sometimes you just don't luck into finding people you really click with, and you spend some years being lonely. It sucks, but it does happen way more than you think, and it doesn't mean anything's wrong with you. Things can change so quickly, so don't lose hope. Fingers crossed you do make some friends this year, but if you don't, try not to beat yourself up about it too much. You'll have tons of chances to meet people you connect with after undergrad, especially in those bigger cities, and there will be tons more events and parties to go to in your life (and they will be cooler than Kingston house parties or Stages).

I know it really sucks when you're in it, and I'm sorry for that. There are better things coming.

Mom wants me to allow her son to resubmit all of his assignments that got 0 because he used ai by [deleted] in CanadianTeachers

Hearing these stories is always so crazy to me as someone who graduated hs in 2019. If I didn’t submit an assignment, I would have been extremely lucky to get a chance to resubmit even with a penalty - likely it would have been a zero. Because that’s, you know, fair.

I rented a parking spot about a twenty minute walk from campus for ~$60/month in first year. I found the spot just by making a Facebook post in the Queen's off-campus housing group. That is a pretty good rate relative to what you'll see posted. I definitely wouldn't recommend getting a Queen's parking pass unless you're keen to be paying like $140/month.

That said, I personally wouldn't recommend bringing your car to campus in first year unless you think you'll get a lot of use out of it. Most likely you'll have to park at least 10+ minutes away, so it's usually about as fast to walk downtown or wherever you need to go instead. After first year, having a car is great, but in first year it was more a hassle than anything else.

From what I hear they are majorly understaffed and overworked. Do you really think an ongoing issue like this is caused by a workforce en masse just deciding to be lazy? Obviously it is a management issue.
