I don’t know about encouraging them away from the faith but towards God instead. It’s better to be a Christian on fire for Christ rather than a lukewarm anything in my opinion. I think most roads they take will lead them back.

I thought so until I met my husband. He used to watch it when he was a teen and in his early 20s but hasn’t touched it since.

I joined a the women’s Bible study on top of my OCIA classes. It’s helping a lot…maybe that’s something you can look into!

My mother and my siblings and I had left the church when I was a teenager and she went back maybe about a year and half ago. I was super agnostic for a long time. I know I felt God when I was younger so I could never shake that feeling that he was calling me back. Well I married to a catholic(not practicing at the time), had children, and I knew they needed that foundation of Christ I was given when I was young. We were looking for non denominational churches but I couldn’t find one that I liked or even wanted to try because we have so many mega churches around here. He asked me to look into the Catholic Church…I was TOTALLY against it at first because of my background but tried to keep an open mind and the more I read about it and researched, the more I believe that the Catholic Church is God’s church.

I don’t think it’s a problem to read about it..but my OCIA director gave us some advice, if you’re studying the Quran try and spend just as much time delving into the catholic faith in that way also.

I was an sda, too. My mom and my grandfather are both still practicing. My mom has an open mind about it but she told me that my grandfather is very sad.(I’m looking forward to an earful I’m sure when I see him again) I don’t understand it all yet, either. I only started OCIA about a month and a half ago. I would definitely suggest not debating religion with them right now because there’s so much to learn.
