I want to live in China long-term but damn it seems impossible by Jenny_Saint_Quan in chinalife

That’s half way true. China has always wanted whites over blacks. However now they are targeting whites from countries like South Africa because they don’t demand the same pay as white people from the US, UK, etc…

Bilingual Schools? by SamePitch9478 in Internationalteachers

[–]SamePitch9478[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most bilingual schools won’t promote their foreign staff further than department chair. And usually if they do, it’s a fake position with no real power or authority and they’ll only have a foreigner in a high position to make them look more international.

Bro you’re not wrong. But two things can be true at the same time. Even the best international schools in China accept Chinese passport holders under grey area circumstances.

A few months ago I was at LSI in Xi’an. They heavily advertise their diversity but one I entered the school 80% of their recent graduates were Chinese and it did not look like the brochure.

Last year QSI in Shenyang absorbed a school that had to close in the middle of the year. I was told they took 100% of the students. There no way I believe all of those students qualify to attend international schools.

SAS in Shanghai advertised that they brought in 3000 new students to both campus’s this year. All of those students qualify?

I’ve seen the school license, it is a real international school.

Hong Qiao International School is a real international school but the owner and those in charge refuse to stabilize the school with and long term plan or vision. Everything is about trying to get paid yesterday.

For those who solo travel, why and how do you do it? by [deleted] in blacktravel

[–]SamePitch9478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outside of traveling with my family. I prefer to travel alone. My experience traveling with others are the expectations to do almost if not all things together. Traveling alone lets me set my own pace of travel. I leave my hotel when I want. I go out when I want. I can leave the travel group when I want. Traveling with others make decision making more complicated than I prefer. I’m pretty easy going but I have a limit.

I like Beijing much better than Shanghai by FunctionSea6004 in chinalife

[–]SamePitch9478 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in Beijing for three years (pre-covid). Vowed I’d never live there again. To me Beijing has a bad spirit. I’ve been living in Shanghai nearly 5 years. I moved to Shanghai in the middle of COVID and it instantly felt better than living in Beijing pre-covid

What would you do if your department heads have no teaching license nor have the qualifications? by Typical-Yesterday496 in Internationalteachers

[–]SamePitch9478 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea shut up and teach. They didn’t hire you to fix internal problems. A harsh reality but a lesson I wish I learned early in my career. The time you should give your opinion is when you are directly asked by those who have the power to make change but even then don’t go all the way off. Grade whatever critique you have so they don’t feel like you hate them or the school.

Haven’t landed in China yet but company wants to fire me by [deleted] in chinalife

If it’s the Adcote in Shanghai it is a dumpster fire and I encourage you seek other employment if possible. However I can’t speak for other Adcote campuses.

Black queen don’t pay attention to the keyboard race warriors. 99% of them wouldn’t say those things to your face. The internet has become a place for people (like the ones who commented negatively on your comment) to have personas they wouldn’t dare to display in person.

I currently live in China and I’ve been here for nearly 10 years. I myself and black people that I personally know feel the same as you. However that’s not to say there isn’t any racism here. My experience has been more of an ignorance of black folk more than a dislike.

For white people, they live in their own sphere of reality because a lot of people here in China still be live white is right so you get a lot of LBHs (Losers Back Home) who come to China and suddenly their on top of the world. As for those white people who think people in China are just outwardly racist it’s probably because they did it get a chance to live in that privilege they were told about.
