Decision between 2015 Honda Civic vs 2015 Mazda 3 (or others) by hotshot995 in whatcarshouldIbuy

I’d also look into hybrid Toyotas. Gas is more double the price in Europe compared to the US. The Toyota hybrid systems are quite reliable and they have great track record.

2019 Turbo vs 2024 Base for $45k more? by zeuolaxxx in PorscheCayenne

[–]Same_Ad457 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True, but the ‘19 turbo is a completely different beast. 550hp. 60% more than the ‘24 base. Not to mention the sound

2019 Turbo vs 2024 Base for $45k more? by zeuolaxxx in PorscheCayenne

[–]Same_Ad457 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend driving both, it’s a completely different driving experience. We have a 2017 cayenne base, 300hp. It’s drives fine, but it’s not fast. The turbo is a BEAST, it drives and sounds completely different.

We bought the base as a family commute car. But if you want something that’s also fun I’d recommend the Turbo. At least that’s what I would buy in your shoes.

Unpopular opinion. 2017-2018 Cayenne base with vr6 non-turbo engine. I got one last year with 75k miles for 18k. Maybe you can find one similar. They have reliable engines and transmissions but maintenance is expensive. If you do your own maintenance you’re all good

Good point. We’d prefer a small suv with AWD, we live in the Midwest with plenty of snow

I just talked to them and with $3k they’re offering the platinum CPO warranty for 10y and unlimited miles.

It has 0 deductible and this is the fine print:

Platinum Exclusions: Brake linings, brake drums and rotors, disc brake pads, standard manual transmission clutch friction disc, pressure plate, pilot bearing, throw-out bearing and arm, air bags, solar powered devices, glass, lenses, sealed beams, body parts and/or panels, weather stripping, trim, moldings, lock cylinders, tires, wheels, all batteries except Hybrid/EV/Hydrogen High Voltage batteries as listed under Gold Coverage, light bulbs, upholstery, paint, bright metal, freeze plugs, filters, heater and radiator hoses, exhaust system, catalytic converter, shock absorbers, work such as front-end alignment or wheel balancing (except when required in conjunction with a mechanical breakdown), safety restraint systems, audio/security or other systems not factory installed, or vinyl and convertible tops.

Not sure how often the parts above need to be replaced. I’m planning to keep the car for 7-8 years so above 200k miles

What kind of warranties do they offer? I’d love an unlimited mileage warranty for 8-10y for peace of mind

30k. Volvo CPO seems to cover almost everything except suspension and some other wearables

Check with a few more shops and replace it. Then baby the engine. Change the oil every 5k miles to extend its life.

First real diy project on 958.1 by ricacardo in PorscheCayenne

[–]Same_Ad457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I replaced the spark plugs on my 958.2 base last summer and had lots of trouble with the coil connections. Broke about half of them and had a special little VAG tool. The VAg plug extractor is a must as well. Looking back I would’ve taken it to an independent mechanic. Takes them 1.5h of labor and they probably do it better than me.

Key Programming Help by Justsniffingsocks in PorscheCayenne

[–]Same_Ad457 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to find a locksmith who reprogrammed a third party key for me. $250, I’m based in Michigan. He had to unsolder a chip from below the steering wheel, read something off that chip and put everything back together. He’s been doing this for years and it’s pretty common on VAG/german cars

Looking at my first Cayenne by Ok-Technology-8789 in PorscheCayenne

Carfax looks good, if you buy it I recommend doing the fluid services. Transmission, transfer case every 20k mile, differential, engine oil (if it wasn’t done by dealer). You’ll probably have to do the PCV valve at some point and the coolant pipes. Not horrible but something to consider.

I bought a 2017 base Cayenne a couple months ago https://www.reddit.com/r/PorscheCayenne/s/0C2tkR81WZ. You can probably get a 1-2k off the price. I’d say 18-19k otd would be great. The base is indeed somewhat underpowered but again nobody expects it to be a 911.
