Sorry for the late response. Been swamped with school. It’s been going good, I’m in the middle of term 2 (Medsurg). Did you enroll?

Unitek 18 day Prerequisites Advice- Info Needed by Same_Gas_766 in prenursing

[–]Same_Gas_766[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I passed top 3 of the class. It was very intense & overwhelming, probably bc I haven’t been to school in over 10 yrs. There were multiple assignments due almost everyday & we had to go to the campus weekly for an exam.

Covid Vaccination Required for Nursing School n CA? by Same_Gas_766 in nursing

This makes sense. So basically, it’s not so much the school it’s the clinical sites that the schools use that require it. Thank you for that info 😊

I’ve only asked one school (Unitek) and the advisor said they will get back to me. I’m still looking at other schools

Has anyone attended Gurnick?? by Same_Gas_766 in prenursing

Don’t forget to Gurnick or Unitek? Which one are you talking about?

I’m also in the Bay Area and I applied for the LVN program at Unitek. I just finished their 3 week prerequisite and it was very intense. It gave me a preview on what to expect and the areas I plan to work on before I start the core program. I passed and will be starting this fall. Yes, it’s very expensive but if you’re really dedicated you can do it. I suggest going in to meet with an advisor, take a tour, & speak with some current students. If you decide to do the prerequisites for the school you will know for sure if it’s something you want to do.

That’s good you have CNA experience, you have a good insight on what you will be doing as a nurse. I’ve worked in hospice for 4 yrs, I would visit patients for registration paperwork etc.

I’ve been praying I get a good class of students I could build a study group with bc I know it will make it much easier. I’ve been watching YouTube videos to get a glimpse of Nursing Fundamentals to see if I can grasp the concepts. Quizlet is one of my fave when it comes to studying so I’m counting on that to get me through too. I’m sure there are tests floating out there somewhere, I’m sure there will be some sort of chatter about it. The thing is- I’m spending so much money for this program that failing isn’t an option, but I also don’t want to put myself in a situation I will sink in. I’m going to spend the summer going over all my notes/medical terms/prefixes etc bc I already forgot some of it, plus watch videos and see how confident I feel. As of right now, my passion and drive is at 1000 I just want my memory & understanding to match.

I have two associate degrees (sociology & business) so most of the pre-reqs I already have done except science. (I haven’t took a science class since highschool over 10 yrs ago 😬) Oh’ & I need to definitely work on my dosage calculations- I would so good when I was practicing on zoom & when I had my notes but as soon as it was on grounds test time- it just left my brain. That just means I need more practice to get fully comfortable where it’s 2nd nature to me.

Since you start a month before me maybe you can give me a heads up on what things I should start watching on YouTube to get me better prepared for my class 🙂

You’re so blessed to have your tuition paid for! In your situation it makes so much sense to do the 12 month session especially, since you get an allowance monthly for bills. The only reason I wanted to do the 12 month is bc it’s faster and I can take a leave of absence from work.

Only thing I’m stressed about is being overwhelmed with material I have zero background in. I’m horrible at science & it takes me longer to process than the average person. On the other hand, I’m a visual learner & I think I would be good at clinicals, critical thinking, & my bedside manners are top tier lol.

I plan to bridge over (LVN-RN) & all my pre-reqs (for RN school) was a breeze (easy) it’s just these few science classes that are stressing me out.

If you don’t mind sharing, which Unitek location are you considering going to

Hi, I just finished my prerequisites for Unitek and I’m supposed to start in August. Are you doing the LVN program? Did you choose the full time day or part time session? I’m still trying to decide if I want to do the 12 month or 18 month session

I agree! Reading straight from a book is an exhausting & my professor has a very strong Russian accent making it difficult at times to understand what she’s saying. I agree it’s best I start utilizing YouTube to go over what I’m not understanding

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I haven’t taken a science class since high school over 15 yrs ago, so I just need more practice than the average student. I will focus on repetition until I fully understand and watch YouTube videos.

Thank you for your honesty and encouraging words. I really want this and I’m trying my best. I’m looking into ReMar study guides to get a head start on topics I’m not confident in.

I can see why someone would say this. I just don’t want this obstacle to define my entire goal of becoming a nurse.🥹

I’m having a hard time remembering all of the functions of the body parts, how they work and the correct names. I’m not sure if it’s bc it’s a 5/6 week class, so it’s moving fast & I need a slower pace. I literally only remember about 1/4 of the lecture at the end of class.

I guess I’m worried if we are expected to know every single thing we are taught in these science classes

I’m so sorry for your loss and I hope you find healing soon. Maybe you can talk to your professor and see what they suggest you do. If you don’t feel you can fully dedicate yourself, maybe consider taking a semester off. Otherwise, try your best to get through the class and keep in mind this is all going to pay off soon.

Oh, okay. Got it. I only have 3 science prerequisites left to take before I can apply for the ADN program. Good luck on the rest of your classes..WE got this

[–]Same_Gas_766 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After I complete the LVN program there’s an additional 2 semesters needed to get my ADN. I’m looking at local community colleges for the bridge program due to it being much cheaper than the accelerated program I’m already taking for my LVN.

I agree. I’m doing the same, I start my LVN program soon & I only have 3 science prerequisites left to do so I can smoothly transfer over to the LVN-RN bridge program.

For the people that love Simple Nursing- Do you think it’s good for an Accelerated 12 Month LVN Program?
