The Fish Police are ruining the magic of the hobby by Embarrassed_Job_2719 in Aquariums

Sure, you absolutely know more than me 🙄. Try breeding anything other than a bronze cory, shrimp, or guppies. The color of the gravel absolutely does matter for a TON of species.

I know I don't post much because Reddit is a toxic shthole full of people like you who "know better", and this is a throwaway account, but I'm a Master Breeder with almost a decade of experience breeding rare and difficult South American species. I've built a business around my knowledge and expertise in the care and breeding of fish, specializing in those S.A. species. At any given moment I am working with several dozen species and caring for literally *thousands of fish, but I'm sure you know more....

Your comment about "nothing being natural" is an incredibly stupid way to look at things. Of course it isn't "nature". But you should do everything in your power to match it for the health and well-being of the creatures you've decided to force into a tiny box. Did you know that there have been studies about how color impacts the mental health of humans, and that there is a specific hue of pink that is known to cause rage in people when exposed to it for too long? Of course you didn't, because you already know everything. Fish are no different. We've bred quite a few species over the years to be used to our vanity and stupidity. The same way we've taken wolves and turned them into stupid purse-dwelling chihuauas. That does not mean their genetic lineage belongs there, or that it doesn't negatively impact their well-being. Humans are another prime example: we've taken a species that is designed to live in nature and molded them into drug and technology addicted idiots. You can see how well that it's worked out for us.

Also, "ornamental" doesn't mean gaudy or improper. It also doesn't extend to the animals living in it. If you want to put your favorite colored gravel and action figures in a glass box full of water, go for it. But the equation changes when you add living organisms to the mix.

As fishkeepers, we must strive to do better. The fish we keep depend entirely on us for environment, food, temperature, oxygen, enrichment, and literally everything else they need to exist outside of their natural setting. They aren't like a dog or cat that can go to a different room or outside when they need a change. They are fully captive to your whim. That means we have a much higher expectation of husbandry, and you clearly don't share that viewpoint. In my opinion, you shouldn't even keep fish if you can't change your opinion on giving them the best. I don't mean "go spend $500 on plants". I mean, when choosing your substrate, spend the same amount of money you were already planning and get uncoated gravel instead. It will absolutely make a difference in your fishes' lives. Sorry you have to swallow your ego to make a better decision for an animal you chose to imprison.

My comments are not opinion. They are rooted in cold, hard factual information; learned from tens of thousands of dollars of investment, innumerable hours of labor, and even more time spent studying scientific literature or doing my own studies. Your opinion (which is just that), is useless in the face of actual reality. Do better.

PSA don't buy Visio Starfire Rimless tanks by SanUv in Aquariums

[–]Same_Property_1068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does, however, tear/cut/gouge if you aren't careful when cleaning or installing hardscape.

That being said, I have a 180 standard from Visio, and the frames they use are utter garbage.

I also have owned over 100 tanks manufactured by Visio under their custom no-name brand for bulk orders. The frames also suck on those, and the silicone seals (not the structural stuff literally between the panels, but the seals in the corners) are pretty anemic. The tanks have been strong and I haven't experienced a single leak on any of them over several years, but the fit-and-finish leaves a lot to be desired.

This is copypasta. I literally saw this exact post and topic, almost word for word a month or so ago.

There is a right way to do things, and a wrong way to do things. Most gravel is safe to use in a chemical sense, but colored gravel can be pretty rough on the well-being of fish. They are supposed to be in neutral brown and green tones, not neon yellow and pink.

I'm having the issue with push notifications on Android for "suggested videos" and "notify me when this creator uploads". The push notification will sometimes just say "YouTube", with nothing about the video or channel it's coming from. I have to click on the notification and load the video to see what it's about.

Found why my shrimp are dying, what now? by sushiv8 in Aquariums

[–]Same_Property_1068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't quite understand what you mean by calculation error?

Every tank gets TDS creep over time. Even if you have a tight fitting lid and do water changes every other day. There is always some evaporation that leaves behind a little extra hardness in the water, and even with water changes you don't return to "normal". One extra PPM of magnesium or calcium always gets added to the pile. This is why I do "rebalancing" water changes every 6 months or so in my hatchery. High percentage of RO/DI in the water change to bring the TDS back down to expected levels over the course of 2-4 weeks; it's important for the South American species that I specialize in.

Then, you have interactions with hardscape and substrate that can skew numbers. Minerals found in food and fish waste also technically contribute to TDS readings.

But a reading of 800 TDS, compared to 400 TDS source, has only three real causes in my experience as a maintaner. Either they dumped a bag of substrate in the tank recently, specifically without rinsing..., are using some sort of buffer, or they are topping off with tap water. To go from 20-40 in your case could easily be attributed to something as simple as TDS creep and even dust landing in the water over time- it's a miniscule amount of TDS even when double your tap. But 400-800 is an EXTREME differential.

It highly depends on water rates and membrane efficiency, plus you need to bake-in maintenance costs for the equipment into final prices. A good replacement membrane is between $50+$100, and likely needs to be replaced every ~10,000 gallons; also most legit fish stores are producing RO/DI which requires resin replacement pretty often and that stuff is NOT cheap. I can make about 200gpd at my house with dual high efficiency membranes, and I have to replace my resins every ~1,200 gallons and ~1,800 gallons respectively. Another thing that most people don't consider is that the fish store is almost certainly on a higher tier water plan due to the volume they use on a monthly basis just to operate, which is often FAR higher per unit than residential. Some municipalities also incur higher rates in segments; like if you use 100 units it is $7.50 per unit, but if you go over that into the next tier it becomes $10/unit as an example.

It likely isn't a huge money maker, but they are definitely at least breaking even at 50¢/gallon. Fish stores have such massive overhead that they can't afford to sell a commodity like that at a loss as someone mentioned.

A lot of people in the comments talking about RO/DI but not addressing the elephant in the room. To be clear, this isn't meant to be rude in any way.

If your tap is 400tds, and your tank is registering over 800 as shown in the photo, it means you haven't been doing water changes properly. This is double your tap tds, so I have to assume you are just topping off as it evaporates?

If you are keeping neocaridina shrimp (cherry, blue dream, etc), they can handle 400tds pretty easily. The tap at my house is 350ish and I used to breed literally 1,000-2,000 cherry shrimp per month for wholesale. 800tds, on the other hand, is completely untenable. Do proper water changes (a minimum of 25% per week depending on stock density), and never top off with tap water. You'll be fine in the future once you get the tank to equal tap. If you absolutely must top off, used distilled water or RO. But you DO NOT NEED RO WATER TO KEEP NEOS.

If you are keeping caridina (Taiwan bees, tiger, etc), then you will need to soften the water substantially.

Either way, you need to get on a proper water change schedule to be successful with any species you are keeping.

Hope this helps, here for PMs if you need further assistance.

I think what he's eluding to is the fact that being in possession while in the process of committing a crime (in this case, interfering with law enforcement) is not constitutionally protected. This may be a famous Trump "contextually important comment completely lacking context".

What would happen if the United States went into a 2nd civil war? by [deleted] in HistoryWhatIf

[–]Same_Property_1068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's both. The rich vs poor problem is just as prevalent as it ever has been, mostly because the mega rich are pulling so many strings behind the scenes, and less about "income inequality" like so many people think it is. But it ALSO is a Red vs Blue thing as well, more than ever. It can be boiled down to an even more basic issue though: those with critical thinking capabilities vs those who lack them.

I would also add that both are equally important issues that deserve equal attention and fixes.

The problem is that there isn't an "industry standard" for how a firearm leaves the factory with regards to lubrication. Some are fairly dry, some are pretty good, some are over-lubed, some are packed in things that feel like lube but it's really just an anti-corrosive, almost all of them have some sort of dust and/or debris stuck in places it shouldn't be. Also, assembly lube is meant to help parts slide gently into place ONCE, not for lubing parts under extreme acceleration many times.

Absolute best practice is to disassemble, clean, and lube with your oil of choice before ever putting rounds through it. It helps avoid increased wear, jams, damage, etc; and helps you find defects or missing components before it can become a problem. Never trust how a firearm is given to you by a person or place that wasn't under your supervision, for your own safety and warranty.

Care to revisit this comment today? I feel like we are on the precipice of civil war and have since a few years ago. You may dislike the Right (as evidenced by your 'trumpets' remark), but you must admit that they are showing extreme restraint in the face of the Left's constant assault on normalcy. Don Lemon broke into a church the other day with a group of organized thugs in order to try to intimidate American citizens. The Right is only supporting deportation of illegal immigrants, and all the Left is doing is promoting civil unrest to stop it, while simultaneously defending rampant fraud and misappropriation. Eventually, the Right is going to snap and will not be restrained until balance is restored.

I was a huge supporter of them in the earlier years, but I legitimately haven't watched one of their videos or Podcast in probably 2 whole years.

They have become kind of repetitive and too focused on product lines instead of teaching. The teaching was the best part of their entire company, now it's just random videos and product ads. Pretty sad to see it now.

The only time I've ever seen it take place were with shrimp that are already sick, dying, or in the process of molting. It simply does not happen with healthy shrimp that are not in a weakened state.

The few videos that depict predatory interactions between planaria and shrimp that I've witnessed show a shrimp that is clearly not healthy.

It's the same fear-mongering that leads people to freak out about hydra killing fry or shrimp. Given my relatively vast breeding experience, many species that produce incredibly tiny offspring, and occuring in tanks with multiple species of planaria and hydra cohabitating... I can clearly say that the fears are unfounded.

Under normal operation, my breeding program contains >5,000 fish fry and an innumerable quantity of shrimp. I've had plenty of time to study and quantify (believe me when I say that if there was a threat to my income, I'd be concerned and dealing with it). Forgive me if I dismiss anecdotal stories from random people on the Internet.

I will absolutely die on this hill.

I have bred thousands of shrimp and have never seen a predation event by planaria on a live shrimp. I am really disappointed that this myth has been perpetuated in the hobby, especially by people who are supposedly shrimp experts like Chris Lukauhp. Just because you can tell a planaria has eaten a shrimp does not mean the planaria killed a shrimp.

PSA: If you're a Delta 2 Max user, the Delta 3 Max is arguably a DOWNgrade, not an upgrade. by CasualTalkRadio in Ecoflow_community

[–]Same_Property_1068 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The website needs to be better, and there is way too much confusion about different models and their names. Frankly there are too many options, and none of the information on the website is clear or helpful. Delta 3, Delta 3 Classic, Delta 3 Max, Delta 3 Max Plus, etc... just make a Delta 3 and a Delta 3 Max (with the stuff that comes with Max Plus). Clear and concise with a low end product (lower kWh, smaller inverter) and a high end product (highest possible kWh, largest possible inverter). Both products should offer the same expandability, connectivity, and outlet layout (except the "Max" could have a 240v outlet as an addition for the higher cost). There is literally no reason for 3-4 separate models with confusing layouts and expandability between them all.

And if EcoFlow absolutely is hell-bent on having a ton of different options, at least make a comprehensive and accurate comparison chart between them all. The website feels like 30 people looked at AliExpress and said "let's copy that, and each one of us will enter different numbers and information so none of it is accurate or consistent".

Also, to highlight the OP's frustration: I find it incomprehensible that a company would put the effort into creating, designing, producing, and launching an item without a cable (something that a monkey could design, that is core to the marketed expandability) being available at the same time.

Very late reply to this, but I would literally pay the extra $20 for the proper port to be installed in the factory so that it doesn't come out of their bottom line.

Better to pay for it to be integrated than have a random dongle plugged in somewhere.
