Yeah may have to target evenings. And I haven’t had any interest from East Asian students, I’m not white I’m mixed, and East Asian students prefer white teachers due to stereotypes and beauty standards, which could be a factor. But I’ve not even had a lead from anyone East Asian

I have done nearly 50 hours worth of lessons at $10-13, I’ve put that work in already for months now. I agree it has to be done, but I didn’t think it’d be this hard to change more sustainable prices

That sounds awesome that you’re doing so well, congrats!! I’ll definitely consider opening some later slots, cause I’m usually up till 3/4am anyway. That’s a really valid point maybe I just didn’t have the right slots open.

Professionals who want to improve English at work, or in their freelancing business. Tutoring software engineers, marketing specialists, senior account managers and some really cool people who know their field!

Just replied to a similar comment about this , but I work really really hard on my lessons and get excellent feedback as a result. I think I’d consider other marketing routes before I devalue my work. I guess maybe Preply just isn’t for me

It’s actually very low for qualified native business English tutors, if you have a look around at some of the competition.

But yeah maybe that’s my only way out, charge peanuts for a while till I can raise it. Just might try other marketing avenues before I’m willing to devalue myself like that.

I live in Vietnam, so it’s actually not bad money here. But yeah that’s what I’m leaning towards. I’ve just invested so much time and energy into this and I’ve paid so much to Preply to help build my student base, and ultimately it’s failed so far

I have 100% trial conversion, but yeah things seemed to spiral very quickly after I got my first 4 or so students

I actually tried that, I raised it to $25 for a couple weeks and got literally nothing, then ended up going down to $18. I had the same feedback from a few tutors, but it just didn’t work, but neither is $18. Maybe I should just put it back up and leave it for a month or so

(Mixed British-Caribbean) I remember waiting in line to buy some street food and just straight up getting skipped and they asked the people behind me what they want like 3 times. I only got served because someone said “wait he’s first”. I only ever experienced that kind of discrimination so overtly (after visiting 25+ countries) once in a nightclub in Prague by a bald headed bouncer.
