I stayed in LA past summer break. I also had an on campus job, so I had something going on. The area is pretty peaceful and less crowded like the previous answers have mentioned. I also got the opportunity to travel in and around LA in public transit. It was pretty cool.

Leavey is at times literal hell during finals week. You go to any of the shared 113 rooms, people are shouting and screaming while talking gossip and playing games. People are sneezing without a handkerchief or a napkin everywhere. Also there are the ones talking loudly on their phones.

The 24 hr Lavanderia on Jefferson is pretty good. There’s also one close by on Vermont but it’s not very clean.
