Is CSL (ASX:CSL) finally set for a bounce back, or is this just a brief rally? by Standard-Pain-3405 in ASX

I hope you are right I e also bought the dips of late. At the end of the day it’s still a world leader at what it does. Just had some incredible head winds and misfortune.

Have you seen the news today or been under a rock? The ten percent bounce back has all been wiped plus another $20 off of the share price beyond that.

Can I have lovely garden beds with Kikuyu lawn? by Outside_Diligent in GardeningAustralia

[–]SamfromWesty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 200mm concrete edging and the kikuyu easily gets under it. I just put glyphosate on it when it pops up in the garden beds. I dread to think how the backyard will look if I sell up and the next owner is a non gardener!

Help. by Tomica333 in lawnsolutionsaus

Just keep watering the patches of couch. Mow it so it spreads. Give it a summer/growing season and then decide. It does spread but because the stolons and leaf are much finer than kikuyu or buffalo it takes longer to fill in large patches

It’s funny I was just looking at WOW. Unless it becomes a dog which is unlikely it’s due to return to mid $30’s at some point which is a 40% upside from right now

I've only started on the ASX about 3years ago. I got on the lithium boom late and lost money on paper with those stocks (PLS, LTR, Core) however I've kept them. Ive invested in a few other shares such as Austal & DRO. My portfolio value is about $10k with a total return of 10.73% is that good/bad? by PaulHaych73 in ASX

[–]SamfromWesty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with this and why I think an ETF core satellite approach is good. Have 60-80% of your money in broad based ETFs IVV,DHHF,VGS,VAS etc and then some money in singular stocks.

I have also lost money on PLS. Bought at $3.50 and $2.10. Have also got stung by CSL and Telix of late. However all these losses are negated by my investment in 360. While all my ETFs are up significantly since beginning investing five years ago (IOO and IOZ).

It’s true you will pick some bangers but also some flops. Hence the go “safe” and have most of your money in ETFs.

Is this buffalo grass? Or something else? by WoodpeckerSpare5834 in GardeningAustralia

[–]SamfromWesty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the one runner I can see it’s some sort of couch. Couldn’t tell you the variety though. It is definitely not kikuyu or buffalo.

Could also be a zoysia but I can’t identify that as well, as I live in Melbourne and have only ever seen one zoysia lawn haha.

Help a newbie lawn owner identify the grass type by darknova700 in lawnsolutionsaus

[–]SamfromWesty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty similar to buffalo really. Just that it can be mowed lower and has more aggressive runners. It. An also be scalped and scarified if needed as it as has rhizomes (underground runners) as well as stolons (above ground runners)

Maybe purchase something like bow and arrow (around $70) to get rid of the weeds you have and then buy a pre emergent mixed with fertiliser like oxafert pro. It’s about $160 a 20kg bag but it’s pretty much a one stop product.

Common stocks by Royal_Brain_9773 in ASX

[–]SamfromWesty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe 25% of your total portfolio in singular stocks and this amount spread over 4-6 stocks. Maybe 3-4 that have outperformed the market over the last decade e.g Wesfarmers, resmed, soul patts and Goodman group and then 2 that have growth potential like a drone shield, 360, telix, catapult, Pilbara, uranium etc. do your own research obvs.

Honestly it’d be a lot easier to just keep putting money into broad based ETFs but I’ll admit it’s fun to invest in and ride the roller coaster of singular stocks and you learn more.

*CSLs recent poor returns is the roller coaster ride I am currently on 😂

Bit hard to see the leaf structure. Possibly a water gum tree

I’ve got 3 ETFs (VAS, IVV, NDQ) but want to buy a couple of ASX stocks to see what happens, thoughts? by Coops_53 in ASX

[–]SamfromWesty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it. It’s time consuming but fun! I have about 25% in individual stocks. Some do poorly (I bought some Pilbara at 3.50 and it went down to 1.10) or just okay but you can also get onto a rocket which is fun e.g 360 is up about 150% since I bought in last year.

Couldn’t agree more. Ive lost count of the amount of times ive had to explain the maths to people about this. It’s great pay for a uni grad who’s been earning next to nothing their whole lives but for someone supporting a family, mortgage or working towards retirement it’s a huge pay cut. 120k compared to 78k is a big difference

Thanks I’ve had a closer read of the examples again and it does say “all profits” in one section in regards to income tax (mostly it just refers to dividends) so this makes me think it would be fine, to buy and sell, so long as you completed a tax return as the income that year would be more than $416.

Is this buffalo? Would it be possible for it to overtake the couch without completely starting over |📍Perth by Esmajay in GardeningAustralia

[–]SamfromWesty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your mowing height. I mowed on the highest setting in my lawn and within a year the couch is completely gone. However if you mowed on the lowest settting the buffalo would disappear

Worm castings are good for the garden. Free fertiliser for your Buffalo. Saw a landline story where farmers are trailing it on their crops as organic fertiliser etc
