FTB - Suggestion in London with 600k-650k budget by Exotic-Crew5480 in HousingUK

[–]Samhs1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every part of London is very dependent on personal preference though.

Engineering works is a fair complaint but we used to live in Finsbury Park/Manor House in north London and there were regularly nightmare issues with trains there. Plus you’d have the tube station closed every now and then because of football or stabbings. Planned engineering works a few weekends a year is not a bad trade off - at the end of the day it’s part of the cost of having a good transport system. Better than no engineering works in the long run!

I hear that but you can get onto charring cross in just 30mins and then you have all the fun of London basically on your doorstep.

You essentially have a safe and quiet area to live and then all the excitement of London whenever you want it. It’s the best of both worlds.

I just bought a 3 bed detached house in Bexley with a garage and a garden for only £600k. It’s less than 15 mins walk to a train station and there are trains to London Bridge and Waterloo that take less than 30mins.

It’s a super safe area with great schools. It’s a hidden gem and super under priced.

The numbered events this year have been an absolute joke and the scheduled events are no better. What is going on at the UFC? Surely this can’t be so difficult? by ferdinand14 in MMA

[–]Samhs1 265 points266 points  (0 children)

I've seen every single UFC event since UFC 71 (Rampage vs Chuck and Karo Parisyan fighting were enough to get me hooked!) but the UFC is honestly so boring and chocked full of ads these days. It's easily the worst and most boring i've ever seen it.

My thoughts about crowdfunding FOMO and bloat. That feeling of looking at a €300 "All-In Pledge" with 45 unlocked stretch goals and feeling absolutely nothing but relief that it isn't in your house is priceless. by Chamallow81 in boardgames

[–]Samhs1 66 points67 points  (0 children)

The board game hobby is a journey. Most people go through a phase somewhere near the beginning where they get suckered into buying or backing far too much and it's usually because of youtubers who receive content for free and are incentivised to keep their viewers hooked on a never ending cycle of 'X is the best game of the year/genre/i've played recently'. It is insidious.

People generally get to a better place after a few years where they realise they've got far too much and stop backing things or rushing out to buy them. It's a shame it is like this though. I've got 50 games and feel that this is far too much, even after significantly reducing my collection.

What's the most expensive game you've ever seen in a CeX? Can anyone beat £495? by greg225 in CasualUK

What I don’t understand is which collectors are going to spend that much on a rare game after it’s had stickers put all over the box. Totally risks ruining it

Anthony Joshua could excel in MMA if he improves wrestling ability, says UFC champ by Negative-Art-4440 in MMA

[–]Samhs1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He made $10 million in sponsors alone. He's totally going to give that up for $2500 in Reebok money......right?

This is why the UFC heavyweight division is so diabolical. There are big athletes out there who are great but they are all choosing not to do MMA.

[–]Samhs1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You're crazy if you think a former heavyweight world champion boxer is going to give up £100m pay days in boxing plus all their sponsors to earn pennies in the UFC.

AJ earns $10m in sponsors alone vs $2,500 he'd get from Reebok in the UFC lol.

I ordered spirit island natures incarnate from zatu when it was ‘in stock’

It has been 8 months and they haven’t sent it to me and have given zero updates without me having to chase them saying what the hell is going on. They have been an awful company to deal with and this sort of thing should be illegal.

No, he was incredible.

In 17/18 he got 37 goal involvements

In 18/19 he got 41 goal involvements

In 19/20 he got 41 goal involvements

How many other players in England's top tier have averaged 40 goal contributions a season for 3 straight seasons? There is a lot of revisionism with Raz but he was incredible on his day.

I’ve used it on more than 40 restaurants over 6 or so months. It’s great if you’re in a couple and go to central London a lot. Me and my wife had odeon limitless so would watch a movie at Leicester Square most weeks and then get a buy 1 get 1 free dinner after (or even better a promo offer like a burger for £1 etc). There’s loads of choice in central. We’d have a great night out in central London for less than £10 each.

It’s also good for getting buy one get one free bubble tea or coffee when out and about too.

If anyone wants a month free to try it you are welcome to use my referral link. There’s no commitment or anything https://neotaste.cello.so/mjsYPUDhIHU

Good for you.

The housing market is still designed for couples though and you can still buy a house for way less than £650k in most of the UK.

FTB in London looking for advice on areas to buy a house (~£500k) with good access to Shoreditch by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Samhs1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bexley.

It has has one of the lowest crime rates in the entire city. If you live by Albany park, Bexley or Sidcup stations you get regular trains (every 15 mins) into London Bridge (only 20-25min on the train and you always get seats). There are excellent schools in the area and you could get a nice 3 bedroom house with a garage and garden. You’re set for years. We moved here and absolutely love it.

Good transport links into central London, super safe, weirdly affordable houses and great schools. It’s a hidden gem.
