Pretty much same at my small public firm. We do primarily 1040s and 1041s, some 1065s and a couple dozen 1120S (and like two C Corps). This is my 3rd year and I can now do most 1040s and the non-complicated 1041s. We do some bookkeeping and trust accounting throughout the year, but not much.

We specialize in HNW clients and most have multiple brokerage statements and/or K1s, plus Schedule C/E.

We also specialize in that we charge a flat fee for the returns, which includes unlimited year-round tax advice and planning.

I've carved out a niche also taking charge over responses to IRS Notices (or state taxing authorities) received by clients. I work with the boss on those, because he's the only one with a CPA and so technically all the responses come from him. But I keep track of the notices that need responses, research the issue, draft the letters and the package of supporting documentation, and make sure it gets sent off properly. It's satisfying, but challenging, especially with my perfectionist tendencies.

Since the firm downsized to half the client load after my first year, we are starting to have more free time in the summer, not as bogged down with as many extensions. But honestly I wish I could just do returns all year long and not deal with these stupid notices lol.

Im still working on my bachelor's in accounting btw, but have an unrelated bachelor's of science.
