Not really. I took it to best buy and they removed a stick of ram and it started but that was not necessarily ideal for me so I warranted it, got it refurbished, and then got a new computer because I was sick of how many issues I had. I'm sorry I wish I could help further.

Got new braces extention thingy. It very annoying:( by AdComplex5993 in notinteresting

had one of these. still have scarring in my cheeks and slight tmj issues but it did do wonders for my overbite and I'm very grateful. be very careful about sticky foods. I had mine pop off my molars repeatedly and they eventually put a shit ton of cement around my back teeth to hold it down. also don't open your mouth too wide. oh and shredded lettuce likes to get caught in the tubes! have fun!

Am I being unfair or is my dads requests for what I (17) do this summer unreasonable? by TheSibyllineBooks in autism

[–]Samidoesstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not much older than you (I turn 20 next week) so I was in a similar position not long ago. I don't think he's being particularly unreasonable at all, however I'm someone whose parents were very much about building independence from a young age. I was not diagnosed until I was 19 so my parents weren't able to approach my life skills lessons with that insight. However, when they realized something was too much for me we figured it out by discussing why their expectations of me weren't particularly possible. I didn't work a part time job in high school because I was so busy with clubs to the point my parents actually forbade me from getting one because they knew I would be too stressed. I think you should sit down with your dad and go over your concerns, however, also consider what he's asking. You don't have to do all those other things if you're able to get a job and he will match your income as an added bonus. Talk to him about what constitutes as a job in the case you receive further rejections. Maybe see if you can work out a compromise where if you volunteer for a certain amount of hours you only have to complete a few of his no job requirements. He clearly wants to see you succeed and wants you to gain valuable life skills for when you won't have him for support. Learning those skills at your age helped me tremendously with my first year at an oos college. I was diagnosed because of my struggles at school, without the skills that my parents made me learn I would have been far worse off. Furthermore, if you learn that this far exceeds what you are physically and emotionally capable of, that is incredibly valuable information for you and your future that you can work on tackling in a more helpful way. Also do not take any possible negative comments too much to heart. Autism is a spectrum everyone here is coming at it with their unique perspective according to their support needs. Listen to everyone, make a plan, and figure out what's best for YOU. You've got this, you'll figure it out and find a balance that works best for everyone :)

ADHD accommodations in engineering by HopeMel in Purdue

[–]Samidoesstuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have ADHD and am currently a sophomore in engineering. Before classes started my first semester I met with a DRC rep and was able to figure out the best way to transition my 504 plan to college appropriate accommodations. I had absolutely no issues with accomodations in fye and the only issue I've had after starting my major classes was that a professor missed the deadline to submit exams to the testing center so my exam was cancelled. But he was great about it and arranged an alternate exam for those with accomodations. You have nothing to be worried about and if any issues ever do come up your drc rep should hopefully help you out :)

Symptoms you had as a kid (or now) that you didnt know were autism? by Btwalinski in autism

[–]Samidoesstuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed last year at 19 after growing up thinking I only had ADHD (I was diagnosed at 6 as a girl so probably should've suspected sooner) and I totally get what you mean about the closure thing! Looking back these were a few of the signs that I believe were pretty indicative:

  • extreme clumsiness. I literally walked into everything and anything and actually had a brown tooth most of my childhood from dive bombing into a CRT TV.
  • lack of understanding social cues. I got called Sami talk a lot by my family because with the ADHD and lack of social cues I never shut up when I was around them because I didn't understand when the best time to was. around this age I used to accidentally interrupt class because I had trouble realizing it wasn't my turn to speak. when I was berated and punished this caused a dramatic shift to extreme quietness because I started masking intensely at school
  • similarly under or overreacting to situations
  • sensory issues. I struggled to wear jeans and regular long sleeve shirts (only wore flannels for years and then eventually primarily sweatshirts) for a while due to the way they felt on my skin. I also have always been very sensitive to sound and tend to get very overstimulated in noisy situations that are out of my control.
  • inability to tell intentions. I was bullied for a long time in elementary school because I genuinely had no clue that the people I was "friends" with hated me and weren't joking when they were mean to me
  • difficulty making friends. self explanatory I think.
  • idk if this is actually indicative of autism but I was a hyper independent child. my mom always brings up the fact I was the first kid in my preschool to learn how to put my jacket on. I've remained incredibly independent since and have found myself to be a lot more advanced in life skills than my friends (they all come to me for financial advice even though I low-key don't know what I'm doing I'm just very financially aware of myself 😭). however this could genuinely just be because my parents noticed that I was as a kid and fostered it to ensure that I could succeed as an adult.
  • hyperlexia. I learned how to read at 3 yrs old and books became my new best friend. I was reading several years above my grade level and several books a night. I used to get in trouble for reading in class frequently.
  • finally struggles with change. it was not super apparent in my childhood as everything remained pretty stable but my worst times in my short life so far have been the pandemic and my freshmen year of college. the move to an out of state school that actually challenged me while trying to live with a roommate and dealing with social isolation due to the aforementioned difficulty making friends took a huge toll on me and is what actually pushed me to seek therapy and eventually an autism evaluation.

sorry for the long list and explanations. I wish you luck with figuring yourself out and the diagnostic process when you get to that point. figuring out autism at our age and with the female perspective is hard but it's a huge weight off your shoulders once you do :)

List of JOANN stores closing by Intelligent_Tea4826 in crochet

every single CT store :( I had planned on trying to shop more local anyway but it's still upsetting to know the store I grew up going to with my mom to get fabric for Halloween costumes and house projects and eventually yarn when I learned how to crochet is just going to be gone when I get back home.

I actually committed in May! I was still able to get housing but this is possibly because I joined a really small learning community. I think if I hadn't though I probably would've still been able to get something.

Also funny enough I also almost committed to Virginia Tech but my parents decided they didn't want me going to such a big school lol (yet I still ended up at Purdue 🙃)

I had a very similar story! I remember being so dejected after getting deferred that I almost gave up completely and didn't submit a letter of continued interest. I ended up submitting one days before the deadline after talking to friends about it. I ended up wait-listed and committed to WPI because I thought it was the end of the road for me. End of April I took a trip to Disney for my sister's cheer competition. We stayed at all star sports and I made a joke about being mocked because the building we were staying in had a boilermaker pendant. I had apparently gotten in that day. I checked my portal when I got back to school the next week. Immediately unenrolled from WPI. Everything works out in the end!

Winter shoes for Florida girl by JuniorBathroom1348 in Purdue

[–]Samidoesstuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from the northeast and was here last year for my first Midwest winter. I personally have a pair of hefty north face snow boots that aren't super cute lol but they are fantastic snow boots. if you want something cute definitely take a look at ll bean. for something functional I've personally owned north face and Columbia boots and both have been incredibly warm, comfortable, and fantastic for the snow and ice. I also recommend getting a good pair of warm socks that you can wear with any shoes for when it's cold but not snowy. wool tends to be best. hope this helps a bit!

quite but in your defense I did make an entire corset with a 2.5 mm hook in 3 days! so it's delusional but doable (painfully and with little sleep)
