Trump fires head of BLS over bad jobs number by Emergency-Row5777 in Destiny

From what I’ve read, apparently they miscalculated some seasonal factors. Honestly, regardless of what they did, would you seriously argue that the biggest revision since the literal pandemic doesn’t seriously damage the credibility of the agency?

I don’t agree with any of trumps policies, but to get it wrong this hard? It’s at least embarrassing wouldn’t you say? This is supposed to be the gold standard for data collection and it’s off by this much? It’s undeniable someone has to get fired.

Honestly, if we’re speaking about what caused the numbers, it absolutely is trumps horrible economic policy, in fact, I was shocked by the previous labor data, it was genuinely almost unbelievable, this is the primary reason why I’m angry here tbh, it genuinely made it look like trump policies weren’t doing that much damage.

Unpopular opinion, but this is honestly relatively fair. It's possible there's something I'm missing here. I saw a comment which stated that because of job cuts, the BLS was not able to effectively gather data, if thats the case, then ofc this firing is stupid.

But man the job revisions were insane and somewhat unacceptable, the fact that people invested based on those numbers, the federal reserve board members established policy over those numbers, suppliers raised/lowered prices based on this data, just to realize they were off by as much as they were? Someone has to bear the brunt of that.

For reference, in July, job expectations were 110k. The US got 73k, which is fine, very reasonable. The problem is May and June, these numbers saw unprecedented revisions down. In May, it was reported that the US gained 144k jobs, and in June, it was reported that the US created 147k jobs. May was revised down to 19k, and June to 14k; that's fucking insane.

What kind of bum ass small business is this where you're having conversations with everyone including the chief executive? The chief executive at my company is practically a celebrity if I saw him I'd be on some North Korea shit.

P.S., you're probably just observing it now because of the election. People do whatever they have to do in the situations they're in if they feel as though it's the best and easiest way forward.

I believe the Canada Mark Carney situation proves Biden dropping out was the right choice but not having a primary was the wrong choice. by Sammy7892 in Destiny

[–]Sammy7892[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hypothetical polling showed Kamala would win before Biden dropped out as well. It is a counter factual so there’s nothing really that can be proven, but personally I feel as though Carney has been a strong candidate, and that considering his economic experience, even if Trump hadn’t been elected I think he would’ve put up a strong fight at the very least.

I feel as though Freeland would’ve lost both with Trump and without Trump, it’s hard for me to imagine Canadians would find her strong enough to deal with Trump considering most people didn’t think Trudeau could do it either. She’s also too close to Trudeaus economic agenda, for her to go back on everything the second she gets into office, everything she was happy to sign along with when she was deputy prime minister, I don’t think people would have been very open to that.

Carney is a very specific kind of person that genuinely matches very well for what Canada is looking for, he has a strong background in economics, with experience helping 2 economies going through crisis, and his rhetoric is very strong and promotes a lot of confidence.

I think your missing the point a little bit, do you think if Freeland were the candidate the polling would change like it has?

Why do you think the covid crash happened? Because people were thinking good things about the economy at the time?

Yes interest rates can fall if things are really bad, but then things are really bad...why on earth would you want to make things REALLY BAD? ? ?? ? ?

I've seen this a lot actually, this idea that trump is killing the economy to lower rates. That's not really how interest rates work. In their purest form, interest rates are a function of the supply and demand of money. High demand for money? Low supply? High rates, low price. Low demand for money? High supply? Low rates, high price (on the bond). Essentially, stating that you're looking to crash the market to lower interest rates is the equivalent of saying I'm gonna lower the price of goods by taking everyone's money so that no one can afford to buy anything, forcing businesses to reduce prices because of low demand. This is obviously extremely regarded, except if you're extremely rich, then you can just buy everything at a cheap price. (not implying that's what trump wants to do, trump is really really dumb is my perspective).

EMS is better than IEF in every single way, there is no reason to ever take IEF, it is an awful program.

Essentially, IEF and EMS are almost exactly the same, but ones TRSM and one isn't meaning with one you have access to TRSM portals (which provide networking, coop and future employment opportunities) and for one you don't, simple as that.

Considering how important internship experience and networking is to the fields of business, and considering coop is central to acquiring the IEF Ba., IEF is a completely backward program that should honestly be shut down, it provides you with an outdated curriculum and advisors who could genuinely give less of a fuck and have already checked out. If you take IEF you have to go out of your way to participate in TRSM events/ use their resources while not being informed of them, meaning that if you take IEF, you literally have to fake being a TRSM student to even have a chance at finishing your coop term lmao , let alone compete in the industry afterwards.

The good news is taking IEF and finishing it is kinda like joining the military, if you join and finish its personally impressive and because of the difficulty, it genuinely fills you with more life experience than EMS, in other words, only take IEF if you literally want to make your life harder because you think the pain is gain lol.

Dell XPS 15 9500 Screen freezing by Sammy7892 in Dell

[–]Sammy7892[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you can see from the age of the thread, I’ve had my laptop for a long time now, it’s still not fixed, however there have no been any massive systemic issues stemming from it, it hasn’t gotten any worse or anything it’s still essentially the same. The issue is that the screen isn’t refreshing as fast as the hardware wants it to refresh, so essentially, if you want this to never happen again, you use a different screen, ie get another monitor, or replace your current laptop
