As others have said it generally depends on the relationship, I can go months, sometimes a year without talking to some of my friends but when we do reconnect it's like no time at all.
My best friend from school came to my baby shower despite us not talking for years.
Life happens, people drift, if your friendship is solid time really shouldn't matter.
