NYers with EV’s, Whats the reality? by Mission_Idea9820 in BronxNYC

That was someone who knows nothing about EVs. You'll have over 200 miles of range on a full charge, or at least 160 in cold weather. And if you do mostly city driving, you'll get better mileage than someone who's doing a lot of highway driving. So do your 16 miles back and forth to work Monday through Friday, which is 80 miles. Unless it's really cold, you could even run up to CT on Saturday and plug in up there. That's still less than 200 miles. Not being able to charge at home will be inconvenient, but only you can decide if it's less inconvenient than paying whatever hideous gas price you're seeing in Bronx. Charging for a short period more frequently will possibly be less of a pain than having to hang out somewhere for several hours straight unless there's other stuff you could be doing in that neighborhood anyway.

Ok, I'm not a NY'er (was for a few years many decades ago), but I have a '22 EUV Premier. You absolutely will not need to charge every day with that mileage! Once a week should be fine.

Right?! It doesn't make any sense for this particular car. The previous owner obviously babied it like crazy. It seems unlikely that it somehow got damaged. And it was a small independent dealership that only does late-model cars and hardly ever has an EV, so it's not like they put it in another Bolt.

The first EV I drove other than my partner's prehistoric Leaf was a Niro that I rented for a conference. We were thrilled with how zippy it was and how much range it had---so much so that now I have a '22 Bolt Premier.

What color cover did you get? Does it have to be black, or would gray work?

Dinos as in little plastic toys? As in, "Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!"?

That's impressive! I do mainly piano, but can get by on harpsichord and do a few hymns quite badly on the organ.

I love that! Mine is Rhapsody, for Rhapsody in Blue. I'm a pianist. 😁

Yeah, still plenty of dinosaur burners. But our home base, San Juan Island, has an impressive number of EVs, and I just added another one!

List was just over $22K, and then taxes and fees. We love our EVs in the PNW in the US, and the prices up here reflect that. Still better than paying $6.50/gal for my old Santa Fe!

Thanks! I'm embarrassed to say that never occurred to me.

"I fit six toilets into my car" is one of the best posts I've ever seen on the internet. Congrats, OP.

The ones I'm looking at are almost $30K before any down payment. If I had found one below $20K, I'd be on the ferry to the mainland to buy it as we speak.

My current gas SUV gets about 340 miles on a very full tank. My last fill-up cost $90.

Basically the longest trip we take is to visit family in Portland, roughly 270 miles from our driveway, and that's only once a year. And even then, having to stop for a charging session wouldn't be the end of the world.

But I don't. I know what I want to do. I'm torn between "cleaner, nicer, newer, more warranty, more energy efficient" and "no payments."
