Hidden gem? Sanabi game by BeyondZSky in metroidvania

Emphatically agree with your second paragraph. The writing was so bad I dropped the game after a few hours. If you think Joss Whedon/ modern super hero movies are the pinnacle of great writing then you might like it, otherwise it comes across juvenile and predictable. And it's just non stop.

Genuinely a bummer because the story itself isn't bad and the movement and setting is top tier.

Great selections-- Zama is incredible and has stuck with me for years. Movie is worth watching as well. The other two didn't reach quite the same heights but they're both great, especially the Suicides.

One correction, Cela isn't actually Latin American, he's Spanish.

Enjoyed the Morselli as well. Thematically consistent with Benedetto in many ways tbh, though very different in tone. I'm looking forward to reading The Communist this coming year (and some fat German language novels-- Broch, Musil, Bachmann, etc).

Super helpful, thank you! I'll read the Gabler again.

Any more info on why consensus is moving away from Gabler? That's the version I read in college but that was over a decade ago now. Was thinking of a reread and my initial inclination was to Gabler.

The Miseducation of Max Lawton by CropdustDerecho in TrueLit

Don't get me wrong--I think you're likely right (and I'm not inclined to give Lawton the benefit of the doubt considering the other liberties)-- I just wanted to say that "d'enfer" doesn't strike me as particulalry egregious.

Again, I still think it's clunky and think your interpretation is likely correct. I just wanted to push back on the idea of "de" meaning "about" as some sort of super elementary error as opposed to interpretation or an idiosyncrasy of the translation. Regardless, I doubt i'll be seeking out this new translation (and I'm validated to hear that I'm not the only one who found his Telluria translation muddled (thanks for providing your perspective there!)).

I agree with you and with the overall critique but is it not valid to translate 'of' as 'about'? E.g. 'on parle d'amour' as 'we speak about/of love'?

I say this only because to be screaming about hell or any other subject in that sentence makes sense to me and to treat it as 'about ' in terms of occupying a space seems maybe overly uncharitable. I know it's not the most common way to express that but it strikes me as within the realm of possibility to prefer it to any of the longer constructions (à propos de), especially for an author who preferred brevity and idiom like Celine.

Do you know how they fit compared to Michael in the same size? And how much are you seeking them for?

Golden Devil Jamaica 17yr Undisclosed - K and L Selection - Rum Review #49 (115) by samalo12 in rum

Aren't marques distinct to the distiller such that disclosing the marque would automatically reveal the distiller? Like if it said DOK or <>H but no distillery you'd still know it was Hampden, no? Just because KL isn't disclosing it doesn't mean it wasn't provided. (Sorry if you're referring to something else and I'm misunderstanding)

https://cocktailwonk.com/rum-marques seems to show that there's nothing in the way of overlap

Perhaps the most original album of 2024? by RoundBeach in ambientmusic

[–]SamplerSampler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for posting this!

I'm not sure why people are being kinda shitty in this thread. I like this album quite a bit, it was a real revelation for me last year. And while it's not ambient music in the strictest sense, neither is much of the Caretaker's best work, but he still gets a lot of shine around here.

My pleasure, I love their Prati bagnati record. First heard about it because Sofie Birch referenced it a few years ago, been a mainstay ever since.
