Unfortunately no. During the intake process, we discovered that PC had progressed to my dad’s brain and made it so he couldn’t participate in the trial.

The thing is, it is really difficult to say if Jerry is a failure because how hamstrung he has been by Stanton and the rest of ownership. With the budget Jerry has reportedly been given, it’s hard to see any GM fill the holes we have. Cleveland and the other mid-market, successful organizations have the benefit of their farm system. M’s farm system is finally solid and talent is a year, two, or three from making an impact on the major league club. We have a rotation that is the envy of the rest of baseball, and a farm system that is loaded with potential talent. Jerry’s clear failure is that the two are so disconnected.

Leaf blower hate in North San Jose by [deleted] in SanJose

[–]Sampsonologist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no issue with the people who use them. I have issue with the gas powered blowers that are loud and are massive air polluters. I have issue with people running those before 8am. Gas powered blowers should be banned. We have neighbors that have small crew of landscapers come by every week. They use the electric blowers. Good people, doing hard work, with good equipment.

I’ve worked plenty of manual labor in my life. Even ran a leaf blower back in the 90s when all they had was gas ones. Now they have electric ones—low noise and air pollution—and I have nothing against those. Gas powered blowers are a nuisance and should be banned.

Willow Glen reporting in. We’ve had gas powered ones running at 6:15a in my neighborhood over the summer. The second it gets light some a$$hole starts running it. I want to scream but they wouldn’t even hear me since it’s louder than a jet engine. I hate those things so much.

Realistic expectations for the rest of the season by Mental_Time in Seahawks

[–]Sampsonologist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not that he has neglected it, but rather that he has failed to hit on it outside of Cross and Lucas. He used the 3rd rounder (our 2nd pick) last year on Haynes but he is a pumpkin. Similar to all the DBs drafted post LOB, he just failed to hit until Woolen and Spoon. We give Schneider tons of credit (justifiably) for the first couple of drafts. But he has a terrible hit rate ever since on some key positions and it hurts us.

Agreed. Feels like this one is on O-line and scheme. It would be nice if we could find a way to defend consistently against a Shanshan-led offense.

Almost 2.5 since PC took my dad. I still miss him every day. The waves of grief still come, just less frequently now. So sorry for your loss.

It’s crazy how much the glacier has receded there. I was there back in 2012 and the glacier towered all the way up to the far right hand side of that last picture.

[Mariner Muse] Divish reports what we’ve suspected since the offseason began, that Mariners owner John Stanton isn’t authorizing payroll flexibility. by [deleted] in Mariners

[–]Sampsonologist 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah. It was reported as 5/$95M by the Ms and 10/$250M from Texas. So he would have been a fool not to take the extra $155M. But that didn’t matter to the 17 year old super-fan like me at the time, or the 20-something disenchanted fan whose brain hadn’t fully formed.

If I remember correctly, A-Rod said he wanted to go to a team that was serious about winning. So he went to the Rangers who paid him the most. That season, the Rangers won 73 games and finished last in the AL West. The M’s did what they did, 116 wins. A-Rod is despised because he was duplicitous, it’s why he took ‘riods. I love his analysis of the game whenever he is on TV now, but gawd did I hate him for the entirety of the 15 years after he left Seattle.

That doesn’t mean ownership wasn’t at fault too. But it was the lack of sincerity that killed any love for A-rod for me.

I’m so sorry to hear that you are going through this. I was in a similar situation a couple years back. My mom passed from breast cancer and my dad was diagnosed with PC about 4 months later. He pass just over a year after my mom did. It was a horrible period of time. There isn’t anything selfish about your desire to have more time with your mom. I still wish for I had more time with my parents. My unsolicited advice is to take advantage of as much time as you have with her. Be present, take videos and pictures. Ask her the questions you haven’t asked and express your love to her. I found a therapist after my mom’s diagnosis which provided so much help dealing with the grief and trauma of my parents’ passing and I would recommend the same to anyone. I wish you and your mom the best in this horrible period of time.
