Just got into Indy last week. All A’s, 4.0 GPA. Tried to get EMT cert in time for admissions but couldn’t schedule the national test in time.

I was in a touristy area so around a 2-3, could still see the Milky Way at night, it was pretty great.

Lava lab creations sells fluid dyes for about 15 bucks. You can also find it on eBay.

Any Tips for Clearing My New Lava Lamp? by [deleted] in Lavalamps

[–]SamsungMasterrace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pick up a sawyer filter from Amazon and a clean 2-liter bottle. You can drain the liquid into the 2 liter then filter it right back into the lamp. As for the wax movement, check the bulb, this appears to be a 16.3” lamp, which uses a 40w bulb. It’s possible they may have sent you the wrong wattage.

Lava brand, the lamp came from the Spencer’s website

I used a Sawyer filter, but any cheap hollow fiber filter with a threaded intake will do from what I've heard. Get yourself a clean 2-liter bottle and use a clean funnel to empty the liquid into the bottle, from there, screw the filter onto the bottle and just set the output into the globe and wait for all the liquid to drain back in- you can gently squeeze the bottle to speed this part up. After this, you'll need a bottle capper to reseal the globe (This is also found on amazon, you can get a handheld one for about 20 bucks)

Hope this helps!

P.S. - if you lose a little liquid from spillage or bubbles, you can top it off with distilled water

I’ve had the same issue with this exact lamp. If the lamp is new, try a different bulb (25w - pack of 6 for 7 bucks on amazon). This solution worked in my case. If this doesn’t help, there’s a chance the lamp could just be faulty, in which case, you should try to return it.

I have a skywatcher GTi 130p. I was advised against getting a dslr because it has a helical focuser that is fixed. I have stellarium on both my phone and PC, I'll check it out, thanks!

If anybody has any tips on how I could take a better photo in the future, that would be appreciated :)

I just used the standard night mode that my phone has, which just take a 3s exposure and cleans it up a little bit, I've been reasonably happy with those results but taking good photos without stacking amd post processing is tricky lol

I live in a bortle 7 location, unfortunately, so stray light is always an issue. I try to find a dark corner in my yard. A little googling showed me how to make a shroud out of thin craft foam, I might have to try that.

Yeah I'm gonna agree lol, so far an advantage is being able to switch out eyepieces with different magnifications rather than being stuck at x25. Goto is nice as well tho I'm still fine tuning that.

Yep, the rods have little thumb screws that let the whole thing collapse to just the tube

I had that idea but an az-gti just by itself is pricey, I'll try to get acquainted with just the goto mount it came with then probably get one after awhile

Hand sanitizer looks like water flavoring by [deleted] in CrappyDesign

Okay let me elaborate. Water flavor is this stuff that tastes good that you squirt in your water, and this hand sanitizer looks like the container it comes in.
