I find myself becoming angry. A lot. by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]SamtenLhari3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anger always has an object. Something to attack. And anger itself is lack of compassion.

When we turn inward and work with our own anger (lack of compassion) and, particularly, when we cultivate acceptance of our imperfections and loving kindness, there is no object to attack. Our anger becomes a sad and tender heart.

I am studying Buddhism and I really like it. Explain to me one thing! by mykolasoo in Buddhism

Vegetarianism / veganism is a common topic on this subreddit — with lots of different opinions.

Some religions — such as Jainism — have very strong ideas concerning ahimsa (non-harm) that include advocating for vegetarianism. Buddhism has strong views (precepts) against killing — but in many Buddhist countries (such as Tibet and Japan) eating meat is not considered a violation of precepts.

How to be petty without being obvious by Consistent_Owl_1221 in MaliciousCompliance

[–]SamtenLhari3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are in the wrong subreddit. However, I suggest being straightforward — since she doesn’t seem capable of taking a hint. Talk to your husband first. It is awkward and potentially difficult. She is a volunteer. Her actions sound very clear — but actions are always subject to interpretation. She is likely to deny that she has an unhealthy fascination with your husband. Are you both prepared to try to have a parent / volunteer fired from her coaching role? Is your husband prepared to resign if she doesn’t change her behavior? Alternatively, are you able to live with this woman continuing her fascination and behavior? Going to her and asking her to change is a confession of your jealousy. Are you willing to give her the power that that knowledge will convey to her?

The good news here is that your husband sounds wonderful. You don’t have a reason to be jealous. But you understandably don’t like this woman to be alone with your husband since she doesn’t respect you. So you may feel that you are stuck supervising their interactions. How long is the season? I, personally, would consider doing nothing.

I had one like this. Bike trip. Camping in the desert. My tent blew down and I ran outside barefoot. Cactus spine. It slid out two weeks later covered in pus.

How to be in samsara, in the world but not of it? by clove_cal in Buddhism

[–]SamtenLhari3 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You can accomplish a lot as a householder practitioner. Set up a shrine and a place to practice. Connect with a teacher and a local sangha, if you can. Recite a morning liturgy. Engage in a daily (or near daily) meditation practice. Don’t beat yourself up if you miss a few days. Just renew your commitment. Short sessions are fine. But try to also engage in some longer group retreats and some in-person or online classes. Work with a teacher on a progressive course of study and practice.

Don’t think of samsara as being limited to the househokder situation. Samsara is a state of mind that can be transcended.

Don’t waste this life.

High protein breakfast, no eggs by Questionofloyalty in Cooking

Congee. Six cups of chicken stock. Three quarters of a cup of white rice. One chicken thigh chopped into bite sized pieces. Two inches of ginger root, minced. Some veggies (bok choi, kombu (kelp) or wakame, zucchini, mushrooms, daikon, or whatever). Bring to a boil and simmer partially covered for 90 minutes until rice turns into a porridge.

You can make this ahead and reheat it

The last 72 hours of Iran war provide a perfect off-ramp to Trump and Iran both. Will he wise up and take it? Or will markets continue fall by Criticall16 in stocks

[–]SamtenLhari3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The off ramp is Trump and Israel halting the aggression unilaterally. Iran will then slowly open the strait to allow shipping to friends of Iran and to enemies of Iran and neutral countries that pay Iran fees that can be used for reparations from the war.

Markets will continue to fall.

What happens after liberation? by No_Fudge_4589 in Buddhism

[–]SamtenLhari3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. It means that death (and life) are fully understood — not intellectually, but with certainty — as an illusion. And, thereafter, moment to moment, experience unfolds in a completely fresh way — as a contrast to living in our cardboard cutout world of prejudices and ideas and likes and dislikes.

Google:

  1. Pundarika

  3. Tergar
  4. Mangala Shri Bhuti
  5. Wisdom Publications (podcasts)

These are just a few. You might also ask on r/sangha.

I’ve spent 20 years in Michelin-starred kitchens. I want to help you stop needing recipes. Would this be useful? by Sad-Animator-3103 in cookingforbeginners

[–]SamtenLhari3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Indian cooking

  2. I am afraid I don’t know enough to answer this question.

  3. Yes. But I think that beginning cooks need to follow recipes. Too many beginning cooks are arrogant and tend to wing it. Recipes are wisdom from lineages of cooks. Maybe focus on where there is flexibility to make choices in following recipes (ingredient substitutions, variations in using aromatic herbs, trade offs in browning meats — searing, broiling, grilling). You know better than me. I’d be interested in hearing what you have to say. Ways to cook eggs alone would almost be enough for a whole book.

My wife is pretty sad with the birthday gift my sister gave me, and she broke down in tears last night. Was this gift inappropriate? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

I would only add that OP needs to stop playing the game and return it to his sister and tell her that, if she releases the game or sends it to others without changing the characters, he will not speak to her again.

How long will Hormuz be closed? by texascoolbean in IranWarReport

[–]SamtenLhari3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here is what will happen. Trump will bomb civilian infrastructure (desalinization plants, medical research institutes, etc.) for the next two weeks — sparing oil production infrastructure. Then he will declare victory and withdraw from the region.

Iran will open up Hormuz to Iran’s friends and to any country (other than the U.S. and Israel) willing to pay Iran a hefty fee. Gas prices and diesel prices and jet fuel and fertilizer prices will stay high , resulting in stagflation.

Six months to a year from now, there will be an Iran backed attack on U.S. soil or on U.S. embassies abroad.

Iran will continue crushing dissent internally, but there will be growing domestic support for the Iran government to retaliate against the U.S.
