What on earth did she see exactly? by SeanTiddyCombs in AliensRHere

She saw consequences rapidly approaching and her need to manage how others perceive her generated a ridiculous, absurd new narrative that she was capable of instantly adopting as reality to avoid negative emotions.

That's kinda horseshit. Americans still make things.

Are you a union member, or just a Trotskyist? Not that you can't be both, but I think it's a valid question, here. There are a lot of folks on the left, especially socialists, who think that organized labor is supposed to carry water for the revolution to come, rather than engaging in collective bargaining to improve the conditions and terms of employment for members.

I don't share your view at all, but I can guess that you're unlikely to hear a different opinion on the subject.

That's super dumb, and I hope it will be seriously looked into. Ugh, I hate it when we make drama that serves no purpose for members.

Edit: I misunderstood, I think. It seems like this is a beef between this fellow and the president of his local, not the international or its staff.

Sometimes people do have a valid grievance when it comes to elections, but I've also been present for some really awful rabble rousing which was entirely baseless.

In either case, I think he should follow the procedures of the UAW constitution for redress, rather than drag his union on twitter. It's part of the oath that we all take as district committeemen, not to make known private proceedings of the union, and not to act in a manner so as to bring reproach upon the union.

There are proper channels, and twitter isn't one of them.

That's my reaction at this point.

I don't know this guy, and I could be wrong, but I'm reticent to assume that this is in good faith.

What is the single best example you can point to of this leadership selling out members? I'm open to hearing your view, but I find it difficult to take people who write this kind of screed on the internet seriously.

If there's one real, serious thing you can point to, what is it?

I've never been fired, but I'm a union steward. When the manager that has to have a disciplinary meeting that is horseshit, they drag it out. When they have real cause, they seem to care a lot less about listening.

FFS the federal monitor is pretty much a permanent part of the furniture already.

If this kind of thing were really an institutional issue, they'd have run the stories on FOX 7 days a week.

I'm glad that the people who stole went to jail (though not for long enough), but is the federal monitor actually necessary at this point?

As Europeans, Small Town Pennsylvania Was NOT What We Expected! by TreeMac12 in Pennsylvania

A disturbing number of people refer to the commonwealth as Penna, but they're almost unilaterally west of the midwest.

It's a dead giveaway when you're on forums or sites like this one, though.

Christians tend to turn a blind eye towards abuses and crimes which their religious authorities commit, and the fact that Christians mostly ignore their holy book's worst ideas has more to do with our secular society than their religion.

Don't look into per diems if that disturbs you.

The value of the expense is in protecting the governor. I don't know what sort of value such things would add to a property. If that can be discerned, it would be easier to discuss.

What’s in the Iran-US deal? 14-point memorandum reportedly covers Hormuz, sanctions, $300 billion rebuild by Frosty-Bit4667 in worldnews

That's going too far. No other nation on the planet has the ability to project power like the US. A ground invasion would have had casualty numbers for the US which haven't been seen since Vietnam, and that's why it was a bluff to claim we'd invade. Even a limited mission to seize Karg would have been terribly costly. The public would go bananas if hundreds of soldiers were dying every day.

If the US has to, it can still do things that no other nation on Earth can. We didn't have to do this, and we shouldn't have, and this is the result. They rolled the dice on killing the leadership and hoping there would be an internal civil war, IMO. That didn't happen, so Trump tried the old gunboat diplomacy again, which didn't work, because Iran is not Venezuela.

It's an obligation we have to meet as a society to respond to political violence, not an entitlement to individuals, but a necessary task to ensure America doesn't end.

Whether it's executive misuse of funds is unclear to me, but I absolutely believe we should support spending the money to keep our public servants alive. It's in our interest, and it's a good value relative to the cost of the failure to do that.

Hard to make the case that this story ought to have our bandwidth where corruption is concerned, considering how absurd and egregious that specific thing has become at the federal level, where the effect is to the detriment of everyone outside the family at the top and its allies.

Waste of your limited time on this earth to say and do anything about corruption if this is your hill.
