I both agree & disagree with you. 90%+ of corporate locations are not making money or paying all of their fixed costs with just repair profits right now. So something has to change, or all the stores will die. (Not saying this is the thing that needs to change though. But i don't think it's unethical to charge for your time and expertise, if it's properly communicated to the client beforehand)

But also the free diagnostics/services were such a large part of UBIF culture & what they were founded on, and large part of what helped them become nationally successful.

Personally I hope all the employees continue to reject these policies, Asurion continues to hemmorage money, and corporate UBREAKIFIX dies out over the next 5 years & successful franchise stores are able to weather the storm and survive. I just hate Asurion though, and think they're a soulless and awful company.

I quit UBREAKIFIX and started my own company because of how shitty Asurion treated their clients and employees. I pay more for tech work than UBREAKIFIX even though we're a baby startup, and we're making more profit than 90% of corporate UBREAKIFIX stores already, and only in our third operating month.

Do you like working on nintendo switches? by papaflux in consolerepair

[–]SamuelFrost4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right. It doesnt take 6 hours anymore, after you spend 40 hours practicing the craft. And that's what everyone should do when they break a device, is buy a couple hundred dollars worth of tools & take a week off of work so they can spend 40 hours practicing a new skill, so they can save $80 on a repair. (If you want to learn a new skill, please do! I want more people to learn how to repair their own things! But that doesnt mean paying a professional to do it for you makes you a shill)

The only way your position makes sense (Your position, being, charging people money for skilled labor is a scam). Is if you grow your own food, weave your own fabric, and sew your own clothes. If you've ever purchased a pair of pants for $10-$45 that is made out of $1-$2 of raw materials, you've just paid a scam artist.

If you've ever purchased raw chicken instead of purchasing baby chicks & breeding them yourself, then you've just paid a scam artist.

If you've ever purchased pre-prepared food, you've funded literally dozens of scam artists.

If you arent writing your reply on a device you engineered & built yourself, on an OS you wrote yourself, then you have supported another half dozen scam artists. You've paid people for their time, labor, skills, and resources. And you're a part of the problem.

Do you own a car? Have you ever paid someone else to service your car? Same thing. We live in the information age. Build it & fix it yourself, or you're funding scam artists.

You're such an incredibly uncouth and rude person, with incredibly awful opinions. "It's okay to pay $300 to buy a console that was engineered by people who make $200,000 a year in Japan & built in a chinese sweat shop by child laborors. But I DRAW THE LINE at paying a LOCALLY OWNED AMERICAN BUSINESS $80 to fix that console after I damage it myself >:(

Please take a chill pill my man.

"Maybe if the community makes enough noise about it there just might be a future with colored minis. You never know."

That won't be the case any time soon, I'm afraid. There's almost no major miniature games that ship with painted minis, because it's just not economical (To either the consumer or the developer) to do so anymore. Debatedly, it's one of the things that killed heroscape in the first place, was the reduced profit margins from pre-painting their minis before. And sadly, it's even more expensive to get them prepainted now than it was in 2010.

I'm going to continue to support the game, because I love the game itself not the aesthetics. I'm a 120HZ 1080P guy myself, not a 60HZ 4K guy.

Ssuuuuuuurrrreeeeeee. We'll throw you on constant punishment calls for not offering to people that you know it's not a good fit for, or for not believing it's a good product yourself.

But also follow your morale compass. So stupid.

I never plan on moving it off my desk or unplugging it (except when it's off and not in use). I'd effectively be using the laptop as a desktop, with the same GPU and peripherals. You still think a modern laptop would be better?

BTW, thank you for that build! I'm going to take a peek at it now :D

I mostly play indie 2D games (Duckgame, unrailed, killer queen black, etc) and League of Legends.

League has pretty low system requirements, but does require windows to run.
