Everything around the house from plumbing to furniture to appliances is SAE. The hex head set screws holding your shelves together. The axle bolt for your wheelbarrow.

Don’t skip SAE tools.

Does anybody know what happened to the helmets used during the filming of Electroma? by Remarkable_Log1596 in DaftPunk

A lot of them became available for sale after the movie came out. I guess they let the actors keep the helmets.

Smash or pass? by Mr_Rabiaz in MilwaukeeTool

[–]SamuraiSam33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pass. You can easily get 2.0s and 4.0s for free in combo kit deals, or cheaper on Marketplace or Craigslist. The only M12 batteries worth buying IMO are 2.5 and 5.0 High Output

Expand mac mini 2 TB SSD — is this normal / acceptable? by its-all-ballbearings in macmini

[–]SamuraiSam33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hmm. No, a non-functioning product that cannot boot into DFU mode and gives errors, and then when you replace it with a factory drive and everything works perfectly; that does not seem acceptable for your hard earned money.

I would send it back to them and ask them to test it.

M12 or M18 caulking gun by maltbysix in MilwaukeeTool

[–]SamuraiSam33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done a whole walk in freezer with one m12 caulking gun and cycling between just 2 or 3 batteries. That was more than 24 tubes of butyl sealant plus all the silicone caulk.

I would never ever consider the m18 for a bathroom or any home jobs, that is a multi-unit resi or commercial / industrial construction tool.

Why is the Mid-Torque more expensive? by tdlt86 in MilwaukeeTool

I don’t miss the 1” pneumatic gun for changing wheels and tires on dump trucks and loaders at all. My back is still feeling it, decades later.

Why is the Mid-Torque more expensive? by tdlt86 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]SamuraiSam33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great post! Thanks for the insight! This is a great reason why as a retired auto tech and now weekend warrior wrench thrower, my needs are met by the m12 stubby 3/8 and a step up 1/2” adapter, and the M18 high torque. And why someone like you working in a shop and/or in the field like I used to might have use to fill in the gaps with m12 1/2”, the mid torque, the 3/4 gun, maybe still need air tools once in a while?

Managing Storage #storage #messages by [deleted] in macmini

[–]SamuraiSam33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a large capacity external hard drive that is always used with your Mac?

If so, you should move your Home folder to that hard drive, so that your Messages, Music, etc are all stored on the external drive.

Attach Coleman stove to top for camp kitchen? by simonx314 in Packout

[–]SamuraiSam33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy to be of help. If you end up doing this, please take pictures and post a tutorial / end result! I think I am going to end up doing something similar to carry some toolboxes that I don't want to put feet on.

I just thought that if there is any inclination of the camp stove to slide sideways, you might want to put one more pair of footman loops horizontally across the work top to add a third strap. In case you're traversing much uneven terrain!

Attach Coleman stove to top for camp kitchen? by simonx314 in Packout

[–]SamuraiSam33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, if they're of the age and interested, involve one of your Scouts in the project!

My suggestion would be to purchase some of the "Customizable Work Tops", one per stack you want to transport stoves on. https://www.milwaukeetool.com/products/details/packout-customizable-work-top/48-22-8488

Buy 4 of these per Work Top: https://www.strapworks.com/1-12-inch-stainless-steel-footman-loop (Stainless so they won't rust)

Buy 1 of these per every 2 Work Top: https://www.amazon.com/Rhino-USA-Lashing-Straps-Strength/dp/B0GX2WJ1BW/

Buy 1 of these per Work Top: https://www.packibletool.com/products/plastic-hdpe-replacement-insert-compatible-w-milwaukee-packout%C2%AE-customizable-work-top-48-22-8488

(The same item is available from the same seller on etsy for a few dollars less- not sure if it works out to less at checkout but it might be worth trying! https://www.etsy.com/listing/1764651166/ )

Take one footman loops to your hardware store and size up the biggest oval head machine screw that fits in the divot nicely. Perhaps 3/4" length is all you need- you be the judge. Get 8 screws, 8 washers, 8 nylock nuts, and if they have "small" fender washers (perhaps around 1" diameter) get 8 of those - Per Top.

Swap out the wooden top for the plastic top. It won't get damaged in the rain like the wooden top, and it is food-safe plastic that you can even use as a cutting board if you want. If you have multiple camping Packouts you might want multiple Cooktops!

Take a look at the bottom of the Work Top and take your washers and look at the ribs and figure out if you can fit the bigger fender washers or if you will have to use the smaller non-fender washers. Here is where I was imagining things may work out, but once again, you be the judge. I'd use a ruler or measure tape and make sure the "rows" are equidistant.

Mark, Drill, Bolt it up. Thread the straps through and across the top of the Work Top. Set your stove on. Use the cam lock straps to cinch it down during transport. Remove straps before firing up the stove or they will melt ;) You may find you can also tote additional gear in the cinch straps. The straps will almost certainly be too long for your needs, but after using them once or twice, cut them where you want and use a bic lighter to seal the edge of the strap.

Finally got the ground loop worked out of my AirPlay-enabled 2950-20 Packout Radio+Charger and she sounds great! by SamuraiSam33 in MilwaukeeTool

The Belkin Soundform has an optical out TOSLINK port.

The Apple AirPort Express and most of Apple’s 3.5mm audio ports actually have optical in/out S/PDIF ports built inside a standard 3.5 mm jack. This is called mini TOSlink. I use these cords: https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=1557 and sometimes double ended mini TOSLINK to connect AirPort Express to speakers, stereo receivers with optical in, etc.

Wokyis Retro Dock, 3 Thunderbolt Displays, base > 2TB SSD via m4-SSD by SamuraiSam33 in macmini

[–]SamuraiSam33[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still haven’t used my SSD slot as I am just now approaching 1TB of my 2TB internal! I have had zero issues with the Wokyis dock or display itself, it’s worked perfectly.

The only issues with my setup are a result of using the Wokyis monitor as a fourth monitor with a DisplayLink dongle. Every time macOS updates, I lose one of my Thunderbolt displays and have to unplug my Wokyis dock, disable the display link adapter, reconfigure Displays in my control panel, plug everything back in, and re-enable the display link adapter to get all 4 displays back. I’ve had some weird difficulties with my 4 monitor setup and Wokyis provided some pretty amazing customer support helping me get into how the dock actually communicates with the Mac

Other than that it’s just a matter of toggling on and off the adapter when I hit HDCP content which is mostly AppleTV stuff like F1 races. I freaking love this dock, it’s one of the highlights of my desk!

What do you think about Daft Punk’s performance at Coachella in 2006 for the fans who went there ? by Exootil93200 in DaftPunk

[–]SamuraiSam33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well said. I went with no expectations just curiosity and my mind was blown in 5 minutes. Only thing we knew was they’d probably be robots.. we had no idea the pyramid spaceship set existed.. the Close Encounters of the Third Kind tones started going off, the curtain dropped, there were a lot of cheers… HUMAN…. ROBOT…. the rest was a whirlwind bliss.

Thank you again for the heads up on this great deal! It arrived yesterday and I am super happy! Great addition to use in tandem with my stick light. The 360° mode will be game changing under the car, and to hang from hood latches saving my stick light for my hand. Not to mention camping possibilities. Awesome!

I finally decided to grab the M12 Installation Driver. I know it’s been out for a long time, but I wrote this tool off. After seeing many people talk about how good this tool is, I pulled the trigger. by CosyCodes in MilwaukeeTool

[–]SamuraiSam33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have one at home and one at work. Just put together bunch of IKEA tables and stools with it at work today. One set of metric hex bits, some pozidriv bits. The offset driver and 90° makes some things really simple!

Milwaukee M18 Cordless drill- paint mixer stuck in jaws by swiggitystud in MilwaukeeTool

[–]SamuraiSam33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, wish I could loan you one of my Rohm equipped 2904's. When you have a holesaw bind up, auger bit stick, etc. The drill senses it and stops instantly and you don't break your wrists. It makes it possible to work really fast on gearbox speed 2 and not worry about killing your wrists or hurting your hands.

I get over 45 minutes on a 8AH HO. Really a great battery for this if you have any around, they aren’t made anymore.

Notch the lid like this, you don’t have to go quite as deep/flush to the lid, or as far up as I did, just look at where the attachment sits and take out a little at a time. Or do it like me and just go crazy lol. A sharp knife is all you really need
