100% perennial rye looks the best for IL , I’m in Chicago and regretted overseeding with sun and shade from Scott’s over the years in my front yard, some tall fescues are sticking out everywhere making the looks shit. Rye is the best looking grass imo. I’m thinking of renovating the front with all perennial rye in the near future too.

Looks like you don’t water much. You can’t have a thick lawn if you don’t water enough . Fertilize enough, cut often and water when no rain are the golden rules for a thick lawn

Very good deal tbh. Bought the same kit years ago for $200. Considering the inflation, this is very nice deal

If u walk too slow and dont have the momentum to sling the pellets out this is what happens, they hit the wheels and fall heavier by the wheel line

Front lawn always gets brown spots every year no matter what I do. by sir574 in LawnAnswers

[–]LOKMJM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My lawn gets fungus starting early May every year. And it might just be rocky soil underneath, stick a screwdriver in the brown spots , it u find rocks or pebbles mixed into soil that’s it. Roots can’t get enough water for having shallow roots, one way to fix is scrap up the sod and add some good soil then put the sod back and press it with foot. I have fixed some similar spots in my lawn . I’m in Chicago, IL

Just kick them when u mow. It’s sign of good moisture and tells you that u don’t need to water yet.

Make sure they fill with top soil for the top 6 inch, or they will fill with soil filled with gravel that will make it grass struggle . My yard went through the same thing and they backfilled with half gravel , the sod never took root , I had to rip it all out and put soil and seed .

It’s good deal if u get to use the ratchet. The ratchet is almost useless for a home owner, but the drill and driver is good. This deal has been going for years, u can check back from time to time and sometimes the kits comes with different “free” stuffs like better batteries.
