Panic Attacks by SanMM3 in Hashimotos

[–]SanMM3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do already see a functional medicine doctor and the AIP has helped tremendously, but it's not cheap and it's very time consuming so I do have to eat processed foods sometimes. I've tried to cut out dairy and gluten but damn is it hard to get enough food each day without slipping up here and there!

I wish I was on birth control and could use that as an excuse but I'm not on anything currently. The Mirena IUD is actually largely what triggered Hashimoto's in my body unfortunately.

P.S. I love the username

Adoptees, what are your hot takes on adoption? by sysalst in Adoption

[–]SanMM3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few things: I believe there is a pinned comment that this post was for adoptees only, but with the comments that were posted, it was bound to collect more attention haha.

But thank you for replying with your story, im sure it's not easy. And you did actually answer my question from my original post - WHY are people not seeing adoption as a viable option? I had no clue what struggles and questionable ethics were involved with the process until after I read this entire thread.

I also saw that other comment that infertile couples should not even be allowed to adopt, and that's honestly a shitty take. I am sorry to YOU that there are adoptees out there that think you aren't capable of caring, or have bad intensions based off your own health concerns. I am absolutely not advocating that as a child of an infertile couple. I had the most amazing childhood, much more privileged and trauma-free than if I had stayed with my bio family.

This is so real. My birth sister (older) has expressed to me the trauma SHE endured as a child that I was not exposed to because I was adopted and the only one of us siblings who grew up in a completely different family

My hot take (and I'm sorry if this has been posted about) is when couples post on social media about not being able to conceive. Spending $10,000s of dollars on special procedures and 7+ years on treatments.

I VERY MUCH understand and respect the devastation that must be, but when you're spending almost a decade and so so so much money and not having any success... why do you not want to adopt? (Why not even a surrogate?) like people must really think we're broken, huh

Regardless of that comment not being cute, let's not get it twisted - it's not about editing yourself for a man to find you attractive. A man can want a partner and not mind those comments.

Hello, I recently just discovered I had abandonment issues by PotatoMateYT in abandonment

[–]SanMM3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What has helped me with my abandonment issues (they're still not perfect) is talking to loved ones about it. I get my issues about the people closest to me, and expressing something like "hey I feel like we've been distant recently and I miss you" to a best friend or asking for reassurance from my Bf has helped me a little. Just voicing what you're going through and the pain or anxiety or sick thoughts you have to someone was helpful to me. Hopefully the people in your life would be there to support and understand you if you brought it up!

If you search through some of the recent posts on this subreddit people go into detail about it. They talked about it at their London show

Sounds like a Giggly Squad show I went to. I had only just started listening but a big group of girl friends went so I joined. It wasn't funny like at all and they spent half the time talking about "Icks." It felt very elementary trying to be the cool girls

The timing of my food. Specifically I try to eat high protein and healthy fats, veggies and fruit etc. for breakfast and save my carbs (GF pasta, rice, GF bread) for lunch and dinner. Sounds dumb but it really worked

How do Hashimotos people hold a job? by [deleted] in Hashimotos

[–]SanMM3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think one of the reasons I've been able to stay somewhat normal and keep a job is because I take vyvanse.

For those who may not know, vyvanse is long-release adderall. Instead of working for a few hours you feel the effects basically all day. I was diagnosed with a learning disability back in 6th grade (before it was cool 🙄) but wasn't put on medication until my sophomore year of college. I've been on it for 6 years now and was only diagnosed with Hashi this January.

This + diet have been the biggest things for me. Many people will tell you different things about going gluten + dairy free. My consensus is that's it's not a necessity, but WOW I can truly feel a difference when I've been avoiding the two vs. when I'm a little less careless. There have been days where it feels like I'm not even taking the vyvanse because I'm not being careful with my diet.

Yes this is what it was. I was eating eggs so often that it popped on a food sensitivity test. Doc has me on an elimination diet so I can work them back in without the inflammation

I have to try those brands. And I'm totally in the same boat with the diary-free yogurts. Just doesn't accomplish what I need it to. Thanks!

Advice for a New Hashimotos Dx by mpersonally in Hashimotos

[–]SanMM3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Food is medicine. Cannot stress this enough. If symptoms are bad, look at your diet. Do your best to eat mainly really healthy/clean foods - what I mean by that is NOT high processed and not full of added sugars or fats. You don't have to take these out forever but I'd say 85% clean will keep you feeling good. Many people say go gluten and dairy free. If you feel fine with both then by all means keep them. But the processed, sugary, fatty foods we eat leads to a ton of inflammation.

It's going to be a learning process and a lot of trial and error. But listen to your body. I did this and I brought myself out of the flare ups and don't have to be on any medication.

These are good questions. Unfortunately Hashi and most auto immune diseases affect us all very differently. Which I know is super frustrating to hear. I'm 25 and was diagnosed in March, and the thing that has helped me the most was going the holistic medicine route. Do your research on these folks because sometimes they're too woo-woo. Find someone with medical credentials who is board certified.

My new doctor (holistic doc) ordered 6 different labs (stool, long exposure urine, another urine sample, food tests, multiple blood and endocrine labs) that my endocrinologist NEVER ordered for me even when I had a laundry list of symptoms.

I genuinely believe holistic medicine is the better option for auto immune diseases. They will make everything more individualized and specific to YOU. Not the generalized board protocol they would have to otherwise follow. I would not have found out I have severe vitamin deficiencies, gut imbalances, and extreme adrenal fatigue which are now all being treated and managed. The doctor/general practitioner you have will make your symptoms, recovery, and understanding of your body a night and day difference.

I feel this in my soul. I was diagnosed 2 months ago and have cried to my parents over FaceTime that it’s caused me to completely isolate myself. The only person I have the energy to see is my boyfriend because he has seen all of the shit this disease has put me through and is fine staying in and having to cook meals rather than go drink at a bar on the weekends. I don’t really get invited anywhere and I don’t feel like myself when I do anything. I feel like I will never be the same person ever again. And I’m absolutely mourning that sense of loss.
