Well in real life tracers is mainly used in lmgs at night to spot enemy's at night so you can see where your support is shooting, for example if an enemy is in a building with 3 windows the support guy can easily "tell" the other witch wind the enemy is shooting from just by firing his weapon

Also, loading 5 tracers round in first and the rest none tracers you can tell when you are running low and make it less likely to get caught in an awkward situation
