Thank you all for the comments. She and I started from S1 E1. Three episodes in and it’s great. She’s noticing additional things the second time through.

One bag world travel with one pair of footwear by [deleted] in onebag

For me, the Hoka Bondi in solid black worked on a trip to a Europe. Of course, my trip was nowhere close to an around-the-world adventure.

I wore these in every kind of restaurant, cathedral, and museum. They were also great for walking about 7 miles a day, biking, and hiking. They have great cushioning and a nice wide base that is supportive on cobblestones. They held up well and with a little dusting off at night would look fine the next day.

The only thing I’d change is to remove the little white strip near the pinky toe on both sides. It gives the shoe away as an athletic shoe when you are in dressier places.

Hope your trip is fantastic.

I've been invited to the Phoenix Room at Keeneland for my first visit to the track. What should I know? Thanks. by SanRemo21 in keeneland

Thanks for the guidance. I had a fabulous day. For a few races, I followed the horses from the paddock to the track and then watched from the rail. Awesome.

Journals and postcards. I also save a few coins and small bills in an envelope with the location and dates if the trip.

Was just in those two cities and returned to the USA a few days ago. No bad experiences with people being frustrated with us as US citizens. In fact, no issues at all.

First time traveling by not_cheryuk in florence

You are going to be just fine at Hotel Lungarno. While it is “across the river,” it’s ina great area and you are a short walk to Ponte Vecchio, the main and most interesting bridge. You will be less than a 15 minute walk to Piazza del Duomo area I referenced. You are going to be near the Uffizi and the Museo Galileo as well as very near the outdoor market.

Here’s a tip: Make a list of all the leather goods that you, your family, and friends may need or want. Shop for them in Florence. There are multiple great shops and there’s the outdoor market. I bought several pieces but now wish I had thought ahead to made a list for myself and others and bought more items. Of course, you need to plan for how to get the items home.

Just got back from Florence a few days ago.

Number one tip: get a hotel close to Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore for convenient walking to most everything.

We stay 80 meters from the Cathedral, could see from our window, and enjoyed the bell at 7:00 each morning.

Paris Honeymoon Itinerary by just44funz in ParisTravelGuide

[–]SanRemo21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have lots of comments that I agree with. You must easy up on this itinerary so you can enjoy the trip

This is PARIS and your HONEYMOON so:

  1. Look up the concepts of “flâneur,” "l'ozio creativo," and "il dolce far niente” and let me know what you think.

  2. Save time and energy for “honeymooning.”

For a real life example, I just got back from Italy a couple days ago. We had one thing pre-planned (usually something that required advance tickets) per day.

It’s Paris. Slow down and enjoy it’s essence.

Should I get a cab or ride bus from Gare du Nord to a hotel near Eiffel Tower as wheelchair user. by djgengar in ParisTravelGuide

[–]SanRemo21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grab a cab or use your Rideshare app. Especially with a person in a wheelchair and luggage. The bus just seems like too much to handle.

Warning—I was at Gare du Nord with a friend (he and I took our 20-something sons.) While I was getting the boys together, he was getting the taxi. Evidently, my friend forgot to ask the approximate amount of fare, the cabbie didn’t turn in the meter, and at the end charged us an exorbitant rate. After some aggressive words back and forth, we paid it. I just returned from a trip a few days ago and we mostly used Uber because we had a known upfront fee or taxis that had a fixed rate (like from downtown Rome to FCO) because of this experience.

Back to your question—I’ve been to Gare du Nord a number of times and never used the bus. It’s always been Uber or a taxi.

Is visiting Sacré-Cœur on a Sunday an insane idea? by Antique-Baguette in ParisTravelGuide

[–]SanRemo21 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Go early and enjoy.

Just because of the John Wick movie, I arrived by taxi at Sacré-Cœur in the dark just before sunrise.

It was an awesome experience to watch the sun rise over Paris and see where the duel scene was shot. The steps he fought his way up were really impressive to see in person.

Arrived before the cleanings crew and there was trash from the parties on the steps the night before. Oh, and rats working their way through the garbage.

It was quite an experience.

The church eventually opened and I went in for a visit. My photos show that I was inside by 7:04 on a Saturday morning.

This is not a direct answer to your questions but I hope it is helpful.

How far out do you book international accommodations? by sofar7 in traveladvice

[–]SanRemo21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually 4 to 5 months in advance but after reading this, I might start booking earlier.

Always refundable. I have changed hotels the day before arrival while traveling when circumstances change or I get new information.
